Hey that's fine, just please don't bother voting in the next few elections until you figure it out, k? Not knowing some of the basic amendments makes it a lot easier when they try to take them away or screw 'em up, and while I wouldn't have been able to pull the number of reps in congress out of thin air, when faced with the choice of 100 or 400whatever, not picking 400+ means you don't even understand the very basics of how our federal government is set up. :bootyshake: - Jewels - 03-07-2008 BLINGMW Wrote:Mike Wrote:why do i need to know amendment numbers? or the number of reps in congress? or... looking back at the test, really any of it? +1 Mulitple choice made this test very easy in my opinion. - Maengelito - 03-07-2008 BLINGMW Wrote:Not knowing some of the basic amendments makes it a lot easier when they try to take them away or screw 'em up, and while I wouldn't have been able to pull the number of reps in congress out of thin air, when faced with the choice of 100 or 400whatever, not picking 400+ means you don't even understand the very basics of how our federal government is set up. :bootyshake: it is 400+ for representatives. its the senate that's got 100. - ViPER1313 - 03-07-2008 You should have to pass a test such as this one before you are allowed to vote. If you don't know enough about the government to pass that test then you shouldn't have a say in who runs it. - Beej - 03-07-2008 85% - BLINGMW - 03-07-2008 ViPER1313 Wrote:You should have to pass a test such as this one before you are allowed to vote. (and it would be completely legal, though people would go nuts and cry foul from every direction) Or at least the zombie test. - Mike - 03-07-2008 BLINGMW Wrote:Mike Wrote:why do i need to know amendment numbers? or the number of reps in congress? or... looking back at the test, really any of it? i know them, i just don't know the numbers that correspond with them. not suer what knowing the numbers helps. i was a vegetable during ap government... literally. oh well. i fully understand the difference between house of reps (based on size of state, right?), senate (2 each state)... and they both make up congress. i knew that, but i answered wrong for some odd reason... it was late, forgive me i think i was thinking congress = senate only.
- BLINGMW - 03-07-2008 ok, you're doing better, MAYBE you can still vote. - KPWSerpiente - 03-07-2008 100%. Some of you must suck at multiple choice tests. Sure, I had to make two guesses in there but it wasn't like I needed to phone a friend. I thought most of you in MM were serious about your politics. Shouldn't you know who in this country declares war? Or since you all seem pretty into the upcoming election, shouldn't you know what parts of our constitution deal with voting? Or even when the constitution was originally written? Obviously none of this shit matters on a day to day basis, Mike. But how can I take any of what some of you say about how this country should be run seriously if you don't know how it is being run now. -T - BLINGMW - 03-07-2008 KPWSerpiente Wrote:But how can I take any of what some of you say about how this country should be run seriously if you don't know how it is being run now. Word! I feel bad for getting 85%. I bow to you and John C. - Mike - 03-07-2008 KPWSerpiente Wrote:Obviously none of this shit matters on a day to day basis, Mike. But how can I take any of what some of you say about how this country should be run seriously if you don't know how it is being run now. Right, it doesn't matter on a day to day basis. My life will NEVER rely on knowing this stuff. If I need to know something, I look it up. I'm much happier having silly information seeking skills rather than having memorized a ton of stuff. You'll also note that Mikey, for the most part, stays out of political discussions on here It all matters very little to me.
- CaptainHenreh - 03-07-2008 90%: Missed the naturalization form & the original 13 states. - damnit458 - 03-07-2008 CaptainHenreh Wrote:90%: the choice with newzealand tripped you up didn't it  - CaptainHenreh - 03-07-2008 damnit458 Wrote:CaptainHenreh Wrote:90%: Actually, it was Kentucky vs Delaware. I mean, now that I think about it I'm a total retard. - Ryan T - 03-07-2008 95%. Missed the naturalization form question. - Jess - 03-07-2008 95% my ass! Question 14 should be void for vagueness: 14. Who selects the Supreme Court justices? The Electoral College The people They are appointed by the president The Senate The justices are "nominated" by the president, who are then "confirmed" by the Senate after Senate hearings and voting. This question implies that once the president "appoints" someone, that's it! Boo to the INS...and bah to me for not "reading". - Maengelito - 03-08-2008 pffff, like you know anything about law... - BLINGMW - 11-26-2008 It's effectively Friday. Time to waste 15 min on a new quiz: http://americancivicliteracy.org/resources/quiz.aspx I got 75.76%, though a couple of those questions have strange choices for answers.... - CaptainHenreh - 11-26-2008 You answered 31 out of 33 correctly ÔÇö 93.94 % I kind of take issue with the last question: 33) If taxes equal government spending, then: A. government debt is zero B. printing money no longer causes inflation C. government is not helping anybody D. tax per person equals government spending per person E. tax loopholes and special-interest spending are absent The answer here is "the budget is balanced", but that doesn't necessarily mean that the tax per person equals government spending per person. Well, I mean I guess it does. That's the *best* answer. But all the answers suck. What about foreign military sales? That's not an individual tax, but it could bring the government income, which would allow for additional balanced-budget spending beyond what the tax base would otherwise support. I guess the question as written is just more of a logic question than a civics question, kind of like saying: "If the money in a person's wallet is equal to the amount of their bar tab, then:" A: That person drinks too much B: The alcohol consumption per person equals the monetary deduction per person C: It's never C D: We were hard up for a way to ask this question, and it's not clear what exactly we were trying to test. - BLINGMW - 11-26-2008 CaptainHenreh Wrote:But all the answers suck.Yeah, that was one I had a problem with. I picked A, I mean, government debt for that year is 0, right? Just as bad of an answer. That and the "Free markets typically secure more economic prosperity than governmentÔÇÖs centralized planning because:" and all the answers were like.... ? I mean, one was "right", but it was still unnecessarily odd IMHO. And I think C would have been "right" too. Anway, way to kick ass. |
