Hi and welcome. I'm not one to pander to such blatantly disrespectful people. I know that if I was down there, I'd march right back into the shop and tell them that I looked at the pads, and they're fine. It is COMPLETELY unacceptable for them to fail you for their own profits. It's not that they were trying to rip you off kindly... they made you fail an inspection!!!! After you tell them that the pads are fine, tell them you have a photo of the pads, and you wouldn't mind calling the state police and having them sort the whole mess out. I'd demand that they give you a pass sticker on the spot and not waste any more of your time. If you feel more comfortable, bring someone else that can vouch for the satisfactory amount of brake pads that are left.

i missed the ball on the failing the inspection b/c of the pads. i'd definitely give it to them and show them the photo of the pads that you took out to look at. like Jack and someone else said, i'd call the State Police if they're giving you more problems.

Cathleen,

Buy me a 12 pack and ill come down and regulate. Or just get it done at the 'shop' in Chantilly Big Grin

Thanks for all of the advice and replies, I plan on going in tomorrow and speaking with them about the issue. I hate when people try to take advantage or underestimate me so they will definitely know how upset I am about this.

I'll let you guys know how it goes!!

So, I brought my car in on Monday, the inspector/owner wasn't there so I left a message with one of the other employees about the situation with my number, waited a day and a half and never got a call back. Came in again with my car, was told that he just stepped out, left another message with another employee.

This guy finally contacted him and called me back to tell me that the inspector wants to bring a state trooper in to settle the dispute. He also said that when he looked at my rear brake pads they were "worn down to the rotor". Also my 15 days expire tomorrow.

But I trust everyone's opinions about the pads and they look fine to me too so, hopefully I'll pass tomorrow with the state trooper present and I'll get my money back for what a crappy job they've done.

Good for you babe, I'm glad you've stuck to your guns! Don't let him back you down!

- Evan - 02-20-2008

good job, now dont let him or the cop glance at the pads and say they are too low, they most definately not too low.
Make him pull out measuring calipers and try to (unsuccessfully) prove that they are below 2/32 with the cop present.

Good job, glad to hear that you're standing up to these guys. Let us know how the next meeting goes.

FYI, I just got my car inspected at Shenandoah Automotive Service Center on 42. Good, fair people. I'd recommend others to go see them from now on.

Those guys charged tried to charge my wife 1000 bucks for brakes.

Well, thats kind of shitty. They had good reviews from those I asked and from what I read (won some local awards for automotive service bla bla bla). I took my car in with the repair manual on the passenger seat and talked cars with the inspector while watching his every move. As with any shop, I guess make sure they know you're not an idiot/to-be-taken advantage of.

- cafleen - 02-21-2008

I called the guys again today and I argued on the phone for a good 10 minutes, he refuses to reinspect my car unless I replace my brake pads because he is the only inspector there and he said that if he rejected them in the first place he won't accept them unless they're fixed.

He told me to go to another place and get it inspected and if it passes then he will refund me and blah blah blah

quite frankly, I don't have enough time for the BS right now, I had a test today and an organic chem test tomorrow and my roommate's turning 21.. this is just starting to really frustrate me.

Any advice on what I should do, where I should go, and if this many people have said my brake pads are fine- I should have nothing to worry about right? This guy has to be messing with me.

Call the police, back to the shop with a VA state trooper. That mechanic will have a much different tone afterwards.

- WRXtranceformed - 02-21-2008

Yeah I thought you were supposed to meet the trooper there? I'd stick it out, get the inspection, and choose another shop in the future.

- Jeff - 02-21-2008

he needs to be smacked in the mouth. Wait this out so he gets what he deserves.

- cafleen - 02-21-2008

He said he was "waiting until the trooper calls him back" so he could schedule an appointment for us to all meet, but I don't have time for that bs.

I suppose I can take matters into my own hands and schedule the meeting myself?

This is just getting ridiculous, do things like this really happen all the time?

- Jeff - 02-21-2008

No, hes being a D-bag. Call the state police and tell them whats up. They should be able to help you out, its pretty obvious that he is wrong.

= "i didn't call him because i'm wrong and i'm calling your bluff"

- NTIman - 02-22-2008

Definately call the state police and get them to look at it for you.

Screw the shop, make as big of a deal as you can out of it with the police.

- Sijray21 - 02-22-2008

+1 on all the comments

you'll need to setup the appointment b/c i highly doubt the shop will be proactive about setting up any appointment with the State Police

- JustinG - 02-28-2008

what ever happened with this?
