Their prices will definitely go down, and they're going to be forced to be even more competitive with the flood of Chinese goods that will hit the market. Trust me, prices = lower.

sorry... what i ment was... fight to drop the tariff and pocket the money.

we even have child labor issues in the US... so i'm not convinced its going to stay clean and safe on the other side of the world.

They're NOT pocketing the money because they can't afford to. The 17% price drop will only keep them COMPETITIVE with China. If they pocket the money, no one will buy from them

Perhaps this was dropped because china has gotten to the point they're exporting so much that it has a neglible effect on the goods coming from all those other countries?

They might be the case but these nations are asking for it, it doesn't cost us anything other so why not? From what I've read, China's products will still be cheaper but they cuts down on the deficit and companies that want to associate themselves with fair labor laws will pay the small premium.

Just curious, Derek, but what does that have to do with this legislation?

And Kaan, so what if the laws aren't enforced... there is oversight established, and I'll be damned if anybody actually believes that the USA establishing a foreign office would be better, but even if enforcement is a failure, everybody is better off through the increased sales.

Contrary to popular belief, big businesses don't horde money and abuse the proletariet with it.

if the laws arent enforced... they will get to horde money... $70/month with OT isnt abuse... i realize that now. I'm so blessed to be making what i consider to be crappy wages here in the good ol' USA. its all coming together for me now... wow

- Ginger - 01-04-2008

Edited to just let it go.

- Maengelito - 01-04-2008

i dropped a huge deuce earlier today. thats about all i have to add to this discussion.

- Kaan - 01-04-2008

we live in the US, where over the last 5 years there have been MAJOR companies cheating the "system" and lying to their stock holders.... if it can happen here, it can happen anywhere... if its not policed it will happen with at least as much as it does here.

Ever owned or operated your own business? Ever run someone elses small business? they dodge laws and taxes every day. The reason my former company wont expand, even though he has the business to do so... is because there is a law that says if you have X number of full time workers you have to offer health care.... he doesnt want that expense. so when they get busy, he will hire people in the evenings for part time work...

put it back asshole!

- Ginger - 01-04-2008

*sigh*

Seriously, I give up. This has gotten to the point where there are so many logical fallacies that it's impossible to address them all... and it no longer has any relevance to the topic at hand.

You are the abused working class. I guess it's time to start letting the government ration light bulbs.

- Evan - 01-04-2008

Kaan I have no idea how any of what you just wrote applies to this issue.

- .RJ - 01-04-2008

Kaan should stick to widowmakers

I love asian women. Any law that provides for their safety, longevity, and ultimately their perfectly proportioned bodies, healthy hair and sexy skin I will support 100%. I'm going to buy plastic Chinagoods anyway...we may as well preserve the hotties that are slaving away to make them!
