Yeah if they need workers, then,

For this one I will probably end up spending Friday night in Harrisonburg, and then driving the rest of the way Saturday morning, unless there is a place I can bed down for the night that is closer to VIR than Harrisonburg is.

- .RJ - 07-12-2004

I would assume they will provide a hotel room for friday night, since its a long drive.

i'd probably make sure they're accepting workers before you drive 5 hours down Tongue

Or maybe he could just show up and have someone who does not know the situation sign his logbook. Yes Rob, what you did was wrong. Do it again and I'll be even more pissed off than I am now.

I would not recommend this. Its a long drive and if you do it in the morning before the event you won't get any sleep and won't enjoy the day at all. Just come down on Friday night, since NASA usually provides a room for workers anyways. The only reason they don't at Summit is because they know it is close to most of our homes.

I'll email Laura to see if the credits were available, I'll void it if they weren't, I am not sure why Linda wouldn't know the situation. I worked just as much as any other guy.

From email: Wrote:...I am completely comfortable with voiding my credits if NASA was only able to give out a certain amount for the weekend.

Because she doesnt make the worker arrangements.

If they needed you to work, thats fine but did you talk to Laura or Chris before you intended to work for credit? Just curious.

I'm not upset about it, I think its great that you're out there helping out - I just want the communication between NASA and MM to be clear so that there's no confusion in the future.

- Feersty - 07-13-2004

I did speak with Laura early Saturday morning and she wasn't sure, I couldn't really get a straight answer. I said:

"Is it possible that I can get credits?"

She had to get back to me about it.

She seemed hesitant to tell you anything, it was the morning of Hyperfest

My thoughts on it are as follows: MM was told they could provide 4 workers and they did, you went around the system and that shouldn't be allowed. Sure they used your help cause you volunteered it, but they already had a full worker staff so all you did was take whoever was supposed to be helping out there's place, allow them to go and slack off, and still earn credits. I love Laura and Chris to death, but asking them anything the morning of an event, especially hyper fest is a recipe for disaster, they got so much going on that there's no way they can focus the proper attention on the minute details. Linda didn't know the worker situation and she takes all the help she can get so of course she's gonna sign your book for helping out, but IMO all you really did was hurt the situation not help it.

There's now a lot of people volunteering to help out within MM, and that's great, unfortunately due to past experiences they're still limiting the # of workers that MM can provide. I think that Chris should talk with Laura & Chris, let them know approximately how many regular workers we'll have and see if they will bump up the # of workers they ask for from us. Until that point it's a first come, first serve basis, if you don't make it in before the # of worker slots are full you just gotta wait till the next event. I'm sure that Chris is monitoring who's getting to work each event and will be fair so as to allow all interested members to have a chance to work events.

*shrug*
they look needed and working to me.

Its certainly stands to reason that they initially underestimated their worker need. (this is what someone mentioned)

Workers were needed, however Rob was there in T&S taking the place of another worker earning credits who was supposed to be working T&S but was told they didn't need her anymore cause Rob was there. Therefore 2 people were earning credits where only one was supposed to because only one was pre-approved to work. 3 of the 4 pictured there were on the MM pre-approved list of workers for the weekend. I'm not saying that Rob's help wasn't needed for the weekend, NASA seems to always underestimate it's need for reliable workers, just the way he went about providing that help to earn credits was wrong.
