there's the issue. we're all trying to quantify "fun" in units. sure working on bikes is a pain in the ass, but you cant sit here and honestly tell me you dont enjoy doing it. having a functional bike, a non functional bike and a car or truck may not make much sense $$ wise, but you like it so you do it. i'd be so much more financially stable if i didnt have two cars, but i'm happy with my decision. the miata isnt that efficient and doesnt have much utility, but on warm days when you drop the top, its a nice feeling. on the suby, when you hit teh b00st on an onramp, its a nice feeling. if it were strictly about money, we'd probably all be driving geo metros or ford festivas.

having multiple of the same purpose vehicle really doesnt make much sense except for the backup vehicle philosophy.
car+ bike, truck+car or truck+motorcycle makes sense, or even truck+car+motorcycle

The no-brainer to me would be to have one (or more) play toys and one nice truck. If you can afford a nice car, you can afford a new or slightly used truck. Something with 4WD, nice interior, etc etc. that can serve as your DD in all types of weather/tow vehicle or whatever else you need it to be

You dont really need 4WD around here.
If I can help it, my next truck will be 2WD. Carrying around the extra weight and reduced tow capacity all year isnt worth having 4WD for those few days a year that it would help. Streets near my house last year were never plowed and I only used it once to get out.

If I buy something "nice" with 4 wheels, it won't be a truck. Reason being that I don't want to daily drive a truck.... a nice 4 wheeler is a high cost of entry, and in that cost I'd rather get better mileage and drieability than a pickup. Personal choice, but I'd rather drive an Accord wrapped in leather every day than a Tacoma that's... a Tacoma.

The majority of folks just need one vehicle that runs fine. If you do track days or something along those lines, unquestionably, you need two vehicles.

That was my mindset when I finally made my decision.
Plus, snow tires on a car gives you most of the traction that a 4WD gives you around here anyway.

That's my excuse for the Miata. I have an '94 Accord that gets 30+mpg for a DD, it costs nothing to maintain and is dead reliable, and with snow tires it's also a great winter car. We also have my wifes '07 Accord, because you gotta keep the wife happy. I have a harder time justiying the 3 other Miatas and my TR6. My Dart is purely an investment. On the plus side, my insurance is less than $200 a month for all the cars with full coverage and I am only making payments on the '07 Accord (of course I am in the market for a cheapish truck to serve as a tow vehicle). I think the multiple car thing boils down to what you want. I don't think justifying it financially is possible

Honestly, I love my truck. It's not as nimble as a car, which I really miss, and hasn't gotten particularly good gas mileage, but it's a fantastic mode of transportation and gives me the ability to get to work no matter what (requirement for my job) and will be able to tow both of our track cars when necessary.
I'd say if you're going to have a track car, keep it streetable as long as you can and when you have the yearning to drive something sporty, take it for a spin. That's my current plan for the Z...

I'm leaning towards a car at this point, since I can trailer a bike with it. There seem to be better deals on midsize cars than 1/2 ton trucks - at least as far as reliability, etc. is concerned.

Perfect...a nice reliable car and a fun bike (or 2) and no shit piles to get in the way.
We just rotated cars and sold one to get get exactly what we need and no more.
P/U allows me to pull car/trailer, take care of yard stuff, get the little kids where they need to go, and move the daughters in/out of college
