apologies, dunno how that happened.

The point of my post there was that saying "i'm anti-any drug" is silly.

You're right, of course, about it not being that good for you. It might not be all that bad either....I think that some people have the wherewithal to deal with drugs and some people don't. I have no information to back this up, besides anecdotal evidence.

Drink beer? coffee? Take aspirin? Tylenol? Sudafed? Smoke cigarettes? Been under anesthesia at the doctor? Novocain? Morphine? The only person I know who is completely drug-free is an acquaintance who is a Christian Scientist, and he doesn't call himself anti-drug.

Also, Joe Rogan was right about the brain producing DMT. He exaggerated a bit, naturally, and it's involvement with dreaming and near-death experiences is purely hypothetical based on current research.

Drink beer..and coffee once in a blue moon. That's it. Haven't had a cavity or anything since i was old enough to make my own decisions

What does your dental health have to do with this?

- HAULN-SS - 09-25-2007

most likely place to get novocain or anesthesia?

i'm interested in your rock. how does it work?

- HAULN-SS - 09-25-2007

no tylenol and shit..

and i did have a local anesthetic when I had my wisdom teeth out, but again, was really young when that happened, like 12 or 13, and so it was more up to my parents than me at that point.

I have no idea.

When I was in Washington, I noticed a distinct lack of tigers around a rock, so I picked up the rock, and since then, I have seen no tigers.

It must work by Science.

I dont take any of that stuff :dunno:

If I'm sick/sore/etc I let my body sort it out, use heat/ice, etc.

I drink beer and coffee though! Used to do a few drugs in college, but not anymore.

- .RJ - 09-25-2007

I wasnt dropped on my head as a child? :dunno:

Edit: the 2nd time I had surgery on my hand I had to take vicodin on and off - it was really painful and I couldnt sleep or do anything for a few weeks. So yeah, if there's a real need for something I'll take it but I'd prefer not to.

I'll take painkillers all day long, I'm not concerned about that. I've done so many illegal substances in my life though that I've learned that overall it's a much healthier, happier way to live without them. To me, the risks don't outweigh the short term benefits.

Are you disagreeing with the scientific studies linking to drug abuse to mental illness? You're going to have to bring a lot better tech than a cute simpsons quote.

- WRXtranceformed - 09-25-2007

Having been a psych major myself and studied stuff like this, I completely agree that certain drugs when abused heavily can lead to serious mental illness. There's no secret, or surprise, there.

I would like to see the studies saying drugs are causing the mental illness. From your post alone, one could argue that it's possible the mental illness lends a person to be more inclined to abuse drugs. I think that is what he was implying with the rock/tiger comment. Plus it was funny.

Yes, I am disagreeing that scientific studies linking drug abuse TO mental illness.

I'm saying that correlation != causation. Is there a link between mental illness and drug abuse? Sure, there is a link. But that link is poorly understood and to imply that

Ev-Dawg Wrote:By altering your brain's natural chemistry you are putting yourself at drastically higher risk for permanent brain damage and mental illness.

is not scientifically sound, and really isn't supported by alot of the data.

I'm not saying that drug abuse (and boy howdy that's a blanket term) might not cause mental illness. Maybe if you take a dose of Mindfucker5000 you will wake up crazy, I don't know. But don't say drug abuse leads to mental illness, because it don't.
