Matt, you look like you should be standing in a corner Blair Witch style.. Like me:

Looks more like your taking a leak than pulling a blair witch.

- Mike - 07-02-2004

Enough with you all and pictures of me taking leaks...

I love miatas. See with no roof and no seats, installing my bar took about 2hrs total. Big Grin

Installing a comfortable seat that allows my 6 foot lanky frame to fit under the roll bar with a helmet is another matter... 4 solid days. I had to weld custom everything, not to mention dremelize my nice fiberglass seat.

and that is the reason you won't find me on the track in a miata :? wish i could though, such a perfect answer to a cheap/fun/reliable car that is classed well.

- Feersty - 07-02-2004

Have miatas gone under any major mechanical changesd over the years? I know the 2004s seem to have subtle differences done to them then those of the mid 90s.

- Mike - 07-02-2004

Old ones (don't know years) have a 1.6, new ones have gained a good amount of weight and have 1.8s.

- .RJ - 07-02-2004

M1 (90-97) and M2 (99+) were pretty different in alot of ways. There were minor changes between 90-93 and 94-97 (1.6L to 1.8L and other changes).

- Feersty - 07-03-2004

The Mazdaspeed Miata turbocharges the 1.8L and slaps a drivetrain warranty on it?

- ECEtiger - 07-03-2004

Signifacnt milestones in miata lifespan:

94:
torsen diff available vs weaker VLSD
1.8L motor bumps torque and hp

96:
chassis stiffening

99:
best yr ever. Every CSP national champ is a '99. It was the lightest with all the new technology of the second gen. The sport model scored the following in Motor Trend: 0.96 skidpad 70.5mph slalom.

2000:
started adding standard features (weight)

2001:
added chassis stiffening (~180lbs), more standard features, and new variable timing cams which were good for 2hp (?)

2003:
big brakes became standard equipment (further reducing wheel hp)

2004:
turbo miata has black box which FORCES boost lag. Major suck. But the compression has been dropped, along with a stiffer clutch and 300 other changes to allow for further...ahem...power. EBC anyone?

Best bet for miatas is buy a '99 in fair shape and boost the crap out of it. They're good for 15psi on stock internals. (240+rwhp). But be ready to upgrade clutch and diff (can use a turbo II Rx7 clutch type). Bigger brakes would be good too if you plan on tracking it with that kind of power.

*I'm sure that's way more than you wanted to know...

just what i'd like to know, good post.

I don't know you guys well enough to know for sure but I detect a slight hint of sarcasm.

Sorry

- Feersty - 07-04-2004

No sarcasm from me, I would assume none from Mike or Dave either.

no sarcasm, i think we'd all like to know, especially since its that detailed. very good post, considering i want to get a miata.

- Ryan T - 07-04-2004

nah, sarcasm is obvious around here. Smile Definantely no sarcasm when I say good post man. Good info, thanks. Smile

- Feersty - 07-04-2004

I would like to thank myself for asking the good question. hehe

- Dave - 07-04-2004

Feersty is the smartest man alive!

Now, that is sarcasm

- Mike - 07-05-2004

we don't gawk at technical posts that teach us a thing or two. if a post is car related there is no way it can be "too much." politics on the other hand...
