- Beej - 05-20-2007 My apologies if this is a dumb question. I can't even keep my shiny paint clear of watermarks. What happens when the flat stuff gets wet? - HAULN-SS - 05-20-2007 probably shows less, i'd think? - white_2kgt - 05-20-2007 Beej Wrote:My apologies if this is a dumb question. clear coat, it would buff just like regular paint - Jeff - 05-21-2007 white_2kgt Wrote:Beej Wrote:My apologies if this is a dumb question. It really depends on how you decided to flat it out. That car is "satin" as far as I can tell. Some times people use a single stage paint to get the effect, ie no clear coat. You can also use the clear to make a satin or flat color. You can "flatten" the clear by adding in a chemical when you mix the clear. You can do it to different degrees to get different finishes. You can buff it just like regular paint but depending on your method certain precautions have to be taken to keep the finish the way you want it. - white_2kgt - 05-21-2007 TurboOmni08 Wrote:white_2kgt Wrote:Beej Wrote:My apologies if this is a dumb question. It's a Ferrari, do you really think they used a single stage paint on it? Um, no. - Jeff - 05-21-2007 white_2kgt Wrote:It's a Ferrari, do you really think they used a single stage paint on it? Um, no. I was just pointing out that there are different ways to do a flat or satin paint job. I was not trying to suggest that you were wrong (GASP! who would do such a thing!) Depending on who did the paint for them it COULD be single stage. Unlikely, but it could be. I did a lot of research on methods for this when I was thinking about blacking out the van. I don't want to spray paint it so I needed to find a "real paint" way to get the same effect. Turns out there are several options. - JustinG - 05-21-2007 i think they came out with a satin clearcoat now to, that doesn't involve mixing the additive to make it satin. Dad and i are looking into this for the truck, since epoxy primer absorbs water, and we want the flat black primer look for our truck. - Jeff - 05-21-2007 white97dsm Wrote:i think they came out with a satin clearcoat now to, that doesn't involve mixing the additive to make it satin. There is a hardener involved that you add for temp and humidity (different types). There is a specific hardener (I think that is what it is called) that makes it flat...which is what both of as are talking about. - Maengelito - 05-21-2007 what about the flaxseed oil? i use a nice combination of the cream, the clear and some flaxseed oil and i'm hittin bombs into the pacific ocean - white_2kgt - 05-21-2007 Maengelito Wrote:what about the flaxseed oil? i use a nice combination of the cream, the clear and some flaxseed oil and i'm hittin bombs into the pacific ocean We don't care what you use to masturbate. - WRXtranceformed - 05-27-2007 Oh um, HI!!
