I'm going to be putting something together, the car show and karting and a bunch of random vids here and there into a video, hopefully it'll be done sooner rather than later but i'll let you know

Whoa that is way cool.

Talk about sleeper,...you start countin sheep and get slaughtered by a lowered Rabbit.

Goodspeed can i have the dyno video of my car uncut?!?! that would be awesome

Also, Jack can you post of send me that pic?

I was very happy with the numbers my car put down i actually underestimated it was 220.51hp and 239.15 tq

i dont own a scanner so i wasnt able to put up the graph.

- Jeff - 04-17-2007

That is of course a boosted MR2 correct? What all is done to it?

I think I met you while you were on the dyno, your car sounded really good!

w00t 100th post!

Thanks BlingMW...

TurboOmni-

I wish I knew all your names... but I suck with names.

My engine mods are

2nd Gen JDMzz 3sgte
intercooler
Downpipe
intake
exhaust
MBC @ ~14.5psi

I want a new turbo... the ct-26 is basically maxed out. I am sure I can squeeze out a few more hps but... I am thinking either TD-O6 or T3/T4 or a GTR series turbo.

my dyno chart:

hp 115.9
tq 108.6

i have a feeling that my heavy wheels might've affected the hp rating. the previous owner said he dyno'ed the car at 122 whp which i assume had the konig heliums on it (10.8lbs) and now its got the konig rewinds (15.2 lbs).

my car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxl9ehfoHbU

Comparing dyno to dyno is, for the most part an exercise in futility.

Yep. He could have used a different type of dyno, the temperature could have been more ideal, among a bunch of other things. You can also play around with dyno charts to make them read higher or lower..

- NTIman - 04-17-2007

Relative humidity fits in there too.

There are a number of things that affect HP ratings. The dyno's we used at school in north carolina had climate control in the dyno room.

Placement of fans in front of the vehicle can have an effect as well.

Every dyno will give a slightly different reading, just like an air pressure gauge, timing light, and just about every other measurement tool out there.

- Maengelito - 04-18-2007

i understand this, but would there be a discrepancy of 7 hp? seems like a lot, but i dont know much about dynos

- BLINGMW - 04-18-2007

WRXtranceformed Wrote:...the temperature could have been more ideal, among a bunch of other things.

It probably isn't perfect, but isn't that what the SAE correction is supposed to take care of? It assigns a multiplier based on temp and humidity... are we just assuming this is useless? I do understand that different types of dynos might come up with different results, but doesn't this at least solve the problem of using the same dyno on a different day?

- HAULN-SS - 04-18-2007

I don't know if i'd really worry about 7HP - that's not a lot of power - perhaps that guy had better gas in the car tha tday, an octane additive, perhaps the other guy's dyno wasn't accurate/calibrated, etc etc. You'll never know. Perhaps the guy lied to you.

- WRXtranceformed - 04-18-2007

Yeah like I said, there are so many factors that it's hard to say what caused the disparity. Usually it's just different dynos. Shit, even a fresh fluid change with good oil / fluids can net you 12hp on the dyno Wink

- D_Eclipse9916 - 04-18-2007

As said multiple times by many dyno owners and professional tuners, that they dyno is not something to calculate horsepower, but more of a reference of what youve done between changing things, and different dynos read differently. Mustang Dynos are notoriously off, along with Dynojets being claimed that they rate a little low.

I look at power more by ET on 1/4 mile than dynos, which ive seen many people get 20-30 horsepower off between different dynos. To me, if your trapping 120, 130, 140, 150, that is much more impressive than what you put down on the dyno because it really calculates your useful horsepower.

- Dave - 04-18-2007

You won't gain 12hp from changing oil unless you were using tar as a lubricant. Hp gains are all relative also. Maeng's miata might see a 1hp difference in a mod, where Lee's STI might show 6 or more for the exact same mod. I would think a 7 hp difference on a Miata would be a considerable, and noticable, chunk.

this is what concerns me. i dont care so much for the 115 i put down, i care more about the 122 that was supposedly put down less than a year before. but if dynos are that off from each other, then i suppose its not terrible. but my wheel weight differences make sense, does it not? i mean, i'm trying to think of all the variables that have changed since i bought the car and the difference in wheel weight seems to be the most drastic, but would it net 7hp?

- BLINGMW - 04-18-2007

It would be my GUESS that wheel weight would matter 0, or almost 0. Also, look at our runs, they were +/- 5HP each time, so 7 is only slightly above this noise. And there should be a few HP in engine oil alone, maybe you're running a heavier oil than he was? For example:

http://silkoleneshop.com/products/oil/e ... 50021.html

They showed 7HP difference in oil alone (and yes, they're trying to sell a product, but from what I understand their findings are on par with others)
