- Kaan - 06-05-2004 thats it! i'm putting the car on a diet... i will win this! - BLINGMW - 06-06-2004 Maengelito Wrote:2004 STi Preface, I do not know a damn thing about corner weighting a car. But how is it possible for the weights to be as you've got them listed here? I don't see how the heaviest weights could be at opposing corners. The example I have in my head is: let's say we've got this perfectly balanced car: FL: 500 FR: 500 RL: 500 RR: 500 It's awesome, trust me. Has a million HP too. So you could find it's CG, which I guess would be dead center of the wheelbase. Right? Now I put an extra 50lb battery on the front right corner, moving the CG a bit in that direction, and it'd come out to something maybe like this, right? FL: 512 FR: 525 RL: 505 RR: 508 Now what could I do to it to get the weight like Maeng's car? I would think if I put another 50 pounds over the left rear, I might get something like this, wouldn't I?: FL: 525 FR: 525 RL: 525 RR: 525 Or would it be like yours now?: FL: 515 FR: 535 RL: 535 RR: 515 I think it'd look like the 525 at all corners example since putting that battery back there would move the CG right back to where it was, and the load would be evenly distributed, right? This is just one example, but I can't think of any way that the load could be so oddly distributed. Moving spring adjusters, moving weight, letting air out of tires, I just can't understand. Help me out. :?: - Mike - 06-06-2004 My head hurts, but yeah I see what you're saying Chan. I wish I had an answer :? - ScottyB - 06-06-2004 i see what you're saying too Channing, interesting. maybe if there is a certain amount of pre-load on the springs on the FR and RL they would be pressing down harder than the FL and RR. for instance, if the springs were inconsistent heights, they could do that? - BLINGMW - 06-07-2004 yeah, I thought about that. Like if you adjusted the FR and RL down a bit (raising the car at those corners), and the other 2 up a bit, but unless someone actually lifted up on one of the "higher" corners, the car would just fall towards the FL or RR, whichever was heavier I guess, making that corner the heaviest corner. I would think if you did that to my 2000lb thereoretical rocket you'd get something like this: FL: 515 FR: 505 RL: 505 RR: 475 right? Anyone? :| - 83Rabbit - 06-07-2004 My old 86 CRX Si tipped the scale at just over 1900 lbs. And thats with a full interior  - Dave - 08-03-2004 thanks to Kaan, I got to weigh the Supra this weekend at VIR with 3/8 tank of gas. With me in it... total weight:3268 FL:898 FR:858 RL: 760 RR: 753 seems pretty well balanced, needs to go on a diet up front though. - Mike - 08-03-2004 2178 w/ ~70lbs of gas... damn rollbar - Evan - 08-03-2004 I didnt get a chance to weigh my pile this weekend, but last time I did it, it was a fuckload lot heavier than it should have been. Around 2500 IIRC - Kaan - 08-04-2004 I'm working summit now and not driving.... so i'll have the scales open when i feel like it.... or in the afternoons when race classes are getting their balls busted. edit: Mike i have 1990 Si.... and there are TONS of things i could do to put this thing on a diet.... 8) - Kaan - 08-04-2004 start fudging your corner weights with your coilovers ricers! total weight will stay the same.... adjustments just change corners.... good luck!! |
