Ahem, Patriot Act...

Some other good quotes (all on my website Tongue )...

"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism."
Thomas Jefferson

"Quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est."
Latin: "A sword never kills anybody; it is a tool in the killer's hand."
Seneca, Letters to Lucilius

"An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life."
Robert A. Heinlein, Beyond the Horizon (1942)

and my favorite which I have been repeating ever since all these shenanigans began...

"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
Hermann Goering, while awaiting the Nuremberg trials (4/18/46)

Yeah I certainly don't agree with the Patriot Act for the very reason that it tramples on the Bill of Rights. I heard someone say there was a desire to make it permanent and I can say right now I'd definitely take the time to protest that one.

what a fucking joke

whats said is the clueless morons who actually believe his propaganda

- Evan - 06-05-2004

while we are talking about the patriot act,

a democrat senator (forgot his name) asked the ACLU to provide specific examples of the Patriot act being abused. They couldnt produce a single example.
If even the ACLU cant generate some contrived example, at the request of a democrat, that leads me to believe the noisemaking over the Patriot Act really isnt any more than conspiracy-theory type paranoia.

Jack <- clueless moron who understands that a lot of what Moore said was smoke and mirrors, but a lot of what he said was true.... ahem... hand guns and automatic weapons. I want a nuke and some RPGs! Please Uncle Sam... please!!

Oh yeah, and it's too bad the Patriot Act is an invasion of privacy.

Well, that's a matter of opinion. I have another opinion too: if you want to stop terrorist acts from being comitted against Americans, you need to worry about what the rest of the world thinks about the US. You can't act unilaterally and disregard international law. You can't act as the international police.

Quote:(Disney)'s worry: that Florida's Governor Jeb Bush would cause tax problems for Disney World.

Can't wait to see that movie.

better quality copy of the trailer on apple.com/trailers

- JackoliciousLegs - 06-11-2004

9/11 related: The state department issued a statement that its report issued earlier claiming that the number of terrorist attacks in the US fell to the lowest since 1969 was innacurate. In fact, the number of attacks has increased dramatically in 2003. Colin Powell denied that it was a political move on an election year.

American film maker and author Michael Moore has repeated his solution to the problems of Northern Ireland - all Protestants should immediately convert to Catholicism.

For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.

Or how can you say to your neighbor, ÔÇ£Let me take the speck out of your eye, while the log is in your own eye?
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighborÔÇÖs eye.

Quote:Moore has alleged in interviews promoting the film that Bush and his father, former president George H.W. Bush, had close ties to the Saudis, which led to the decision to help bin Laden's family leave the country following the terrorist attacks.

Clarke's sworn testimony before the 9/11 Commission in March, describing how the FBI approved the flights for the bin Ladens and other Saudis to leave the U.S., may have strengthened that premise. But Clarke's interview with The Hill newspaper, published on May 26, contradicted that previous testimony.

The decision to approve the flights, Clarke admitted last week, had been his own. The request "didn't get any higher than me," he told The Hill .

"On 9-11, 9-12 and 9-13, many things didn't get any higher than me. I decided it in consultation with the FBI," Clarke said of the plane flight carrying bin Laden's relatives.

"I take responsibility for it. I don't think it was a mistake, and I'd do it again," he added. The Saudis and bin Laden's relatives were flown from the U.S. out of fear for their safety following the terror attacks.

You learn quickly young padawan.

- Feersty - 06-16-2004

His justification for things such as the Protestant issue are just ludicrous. Catholics have sex more, come on now. That is a blanket statement if I ever heard one.
