i don't know....i think the lightning is a bad example. it's based on a vehicle designed strictly for utility and possible off road ability, and Ford used a large number of parts from the ford parts bin (i think there are some ford delivery truck parts in the engine) and retrofitted them on there, which kind of makes it a mutt. they took that, and tried to specialize it for an environment that it was never suited to dominate in. they did a hell of a job, but the fact is they're taking a front heavy, aero-as-a-barn, dynamically challenged vehicle and trying to adapt it for a job it never saw coming.

the M5 touring is a whole different story. the touring design is doing nothing more than adding a tiny bit of weight and more utility to something that has a focused mission from the start.
