Feersty, I will make make a more sincere attempt to answer you. Their intercoolers are inside the fender I believe, they are fed air from a duct in the wheel well.... I think. I got the IC I have second hand from a friend. When he bought his Turboed civic Coupe it was in the trunk, the car had a custom front mount on it so he didn't need it and simply gave it to me. I also have a top mount IC off Lee's Old WRX. Lee's IC is larger, but it is tube and fin style and is of a crappy configuration. The TC/IC is smaller, but bar and plate and has a more manageable piping setup. I will go with the smaller IC for now because it will be easier to mount and will likely flow better. There is no way to do a front mount IC and keep my A/C....which is much more important to me on this rod.
@ Adam, I already got my remote start/keyless and my amp/subs in it, so the next step is paint.

Okay yeah I just read that wrong. I know what a sidemount is, and was trying to ask where air for IC would be fed from. I understand now.

Guys,
I had to change out the wheels for a set from an 89 Daytona Shelby. They are 16in "pumpers." They are in a light silver color but the center caps I have for them are white, so the whole sh-bang needs to be painted up. I guess the question is what color? I'm not 100% sold on what color combo to do on the van itself, so painting the wheels and the grill is kinda moot point, but I wanna get it done to help the old van out in any way I can!
Should the grill and the wheels match? Or is it not important that they match? The mirrors, bumper moldings, and wiper arms are going to be flat black, so I suppose they could be the same as the grill and the wheels could then be a different color?
Wheel/Grill color combos
Black/Black (flat)
Silver/Black
Gunmetal/Black
Gunmetal/Gunmetal
I've been playing with the idea of painting the whole van either flat black or just PW7 (Bright White). I'm not a big fan of the color it almost is right now. No matter what it is getting newer "Caravan" badge and the required Porsche 911 "Turbo" badge.
Thoughts on any of this?

i'd either leave the wheels a nice silver, or match them to the lower moldings. the grille....i dunno, i'd leave it as a nice accent.

nope, it doesnt matter.
yeah your gonna get more bugs and shit in it without any kinda of wind deflecting the bugs away, but for most cars with FMICs tucked in or behind the bumper cover, like mine or DJs, you have to remove the front bumper, which actually protects your car, not the plastic/fiberglass piece you think of as your bumper. Not sure if Lee had to remove his front bumper. so with a front end collision, unless your still riding with a front bumper, and not just the Cover, your screwed regardless.

Not really, the piping provided with most IC setups is pretty strong. Would it take a bullet? Of course not, but will it take a rock at 65-70mph? Sure.
Most intercooler piping is hidden away to help avoid this too. It's kinda hard to tell from that pic, but you can see my intercooler piping snaking up from the core on the right and left sides of the bumper. It's protected however mostly by the design of the bumper.

I got into an accident and destroyed my radiator, a/c condensor, bumper, radiator support......yet my intercooler was fine, except for the brackets being tilted for that MAD JDM SLANT!
Intercoolers are damn strong.

those wheels aren't on it now...they didn't fit quite right. Did you see any of the other pictures with the new rims? I was thinking of doing the paint job with the current color on the top and silver below the belt-line. You are right that it looks much better lowered, but I worry that it will ruin its usefulness for hauling stuff.
