Yeah, like I said in my first post, that's what I always do. I keep it set on CC and just cruise. The ONE time I had to speed up to avoid getting stuck between a bunch of retarded tractor trailers, I got nailed. It's not like I'm going 100mph every day or street racing in school zones and that's why I want one.

C'mon, all of you speed at one point or another. It's just blind luck that you don't get caught. If there's a way to minimize those chances, I'ma take it! Wink

- HAULN-SS - 11-07-2006

Minimize your chances by only speeding if theres a group of traffic around you speeding. if ALL the truckers are going slow, it's probably because they know something you dont. Speeding at night is a bad idea too, can't see cops, but they can see you.

Also, as a speeder, be prepared to get busted once in a while. Hopefully it's less often than once a year.

I'm really not trying to go after you at all, I think a radar detector is probably not a bad investment. But this is the ONLY time you've ever increased your speed to get around tractor trailers? .....on 81? You must mean the only time on that day? :|

Personally I just play the odds. If I get a ticket once every few years, I consider myself lucky. Once every 5 years would be stellar, and I'm well on my way! Just consider it a driving tax. A few hundred bucks every few years, it's less than a dollar a day cop contribution. Even if you normally don't speed, lets be realistic, there's probably a 100+ times every year that you do something you would expect to get pulled over for if a cop saw you. I find radar detectors annoying, I can focus on the road better and not have to look out for cops when I'm doing 5-7 over, they can't help you with instant-on laser anyway, and if it's my day to get pulled over... well, it's my day.

I know, you didn't ask. I'm bored. Tongue

- Apoc - 11-07-2006

Yeah... you have fun doing 61 in a 55.

I'll wave as I'm doing 75 with my radar detector and have a cake ready for you when you get there.

- BLINGMW - 11-07-2006

People are showering me with baked goods I am so great!

- BLAIR - 11-08-2006

didnt bother reading the thread.. but i have a V1 that i use daily and have over the past 5 years..

its awesome.. no speeding tickets..i know where cops are miles ahead.. get one

- mpg9999 - 11-08-2006

There is one disadvantage to a radar detector. Jerks like me get to mess with you Smile. I have a radar gun and I will screw with anyone I see with a detector. People will go crazy looking for the cop that keeps setting of their detector . It really makes long drives go by faster.

No problems with it being detected I guess? Do you turn it off once it senses a cop?

I'm on the fence now with the V1 and the Beltronics.

unless things have changed the V1 blows everything else away.. no worrys about pulling it down.. they cant detect it.. and i have it up on my pass side visor.. it cant be seen unless you are in the car. it has paid for itself numerous times over the years. it kicks ass

Drive the speed limit.

-T

you're not the only one. i found that when i had my radar detector (cheap Whistler from Best Buy) it made me aware of several officers in NC near the outer banks and a few across Indiana and Ohio, but not all of them. It gave me a false sense of security and i didn't look out for the cops anymore. It also went off for several other things such as moving doors and false radar sensors that were located in highway signs. I'm sure it would've paid off to spend $300-$400 on a radar dectector, but i never was willing to pay that much.

I just find it important to pay attention and drive slower now Tongue . I don't really speed that much and by September i'll have all my tickets cleared from my record and hopefully reduced insurance.

I really think you're overblowing the threat of RDD. Not every cop that has is running radar also has an RDD.

dont even know what RDD is? sorry im not up with the radar LINGO.. i just know what i have works and it works good

- Apoc - 11-08-2006

RDD = radar detector detector

RDD is so much easier than typing it out.

- BLAIR - 11-08-2006

as far as i knew the V1 was totally undetectable. I have never had an issue in the 5 or 6 years i have had it and I use it daily. I have even had police officers say to get the V1 cause they cant detect it.

- WRXtranceformed - 11-08-2006

If I end up with a V1 and it gets taken by Johnny Law, I'm coming to your guys' houses and taking yours.

- Apoc - 11-08-2006

Then send me yours when you get it back... that way I'll have a newer one for free. Smile
