Speaking on vehicles which are bad for autocrossing... I have never even been to one so I don't really know how they are laid out or what happens at an even. I mean, I know what happens, but having never done it I will be a super noob when I go out. Is there any danger (besides being slow and laughed at) to have a larger top-heavy vehicle with loose suspension (new struts, but OEM style)? Also, do many people auto-X automatics?

They aren't going to let you run with something that might be a rollover risk. I've seen small trucks, but I don't know how they'll feel about a minivan. I'd send 'em an e-mail about it. If you know it wouldn't roll over if you spun out on dry pavement, then go for it. Automatic trans is common.

Jeff, no offense, but why are you talking about auto-xing the minivan when you are building the 'tona? Auto-xing a minivan brings a whole can of worms to the table, and many places will *not* let you autocross a minivan...GRM had this problem wanting to autocross an Oddessy.
Some small 2WD trucks are allowed, such as Dakotas, D50's, and Tacomas, but you might have some difficulty with the minivan.

I don't think it will roll. I mean, it sets pretty low to the ground. Its no SUV or Jeep for sure. What worries my is that the rule book lists all the different things you can do in the catagories. Seems to me that the minimum I could be in would be Street Prepared. With the manual boost control and the oversized (from stock) wheels. Lots of guys on TD.com have auto-X the minis. Who would I e-mail?

Rex posted as I was posting. I'll get in touch with them. I just really want to get out there and try it and the van will be the only car I could use (Daytona will be still awaiting paint by late Oct.) I'm not going to use the Sebring for anything because the tranmission is starting to worry me.

I started out on an automatic and it was great. You stay more focused on the proper line and car control (and 'GODDAMNIT WHY WON'T YOU DOWNSHIFT') without having to worry about swatting gears. Pretty sure there are some nationally competitive guys with them too, but that's hearsay.
The last thing you need to worry about is what class you're going to be in. It blows my mind how much beginners care about that.
Why not ask people to let you co-drive their car? You'd have to REALLY fuck up to worry about banging it up.

I don't care what class I am in. I just assumed I would need to register under the correct class.
I wouldn't want someone who doesn't have any idea what they are doing to use my car...so I don't want to put someone else in the position. But that is a good idea.

It's an FP car, so it better be 3 seconds faster than all sorts of stuff. Impossible to tell if that means the car is actually fast or if the guy just doesn't have much competition.
