- Evan - 08-16-2006 .RJ Wrote:Well, to what extent does it matter if you are not making dvd-quality video? Evan Wrote:MPEG2 unfortunately. Lower quality and larger video files. ![]() I looked up the specs on the site and the resoultion and fps is the same (720x480@30fps) but they only get 25-30 min of recording out of a 1GB CF card. And using MPEG2 for the compression, the quality is most likely lower (more artifacts, blurry) but I cant say for sure without seeing video and comparing. Best case scenario is that its about the same quality, you just need bigger flash cards. A bonus of the MPEG2 format is you can directly author a dvd without any video conversions. - Apoc - 08-16-2006 .RJ Wrote:Thats not bad at all.... hrm....It's not old and busted so you can't own it. - Mike - 08-16-2006 Evan Wrote:Mike Wrote:they stink... using a regular camera and throwing it in to a multimedia capture device/hard drive thingy is a better option.tapes suck for in-car. no way around it, vibrations screw up the recording head alignment. they are 'good enough' until now, when there hasnt been any real alternative, other than expensive radio based cameras that offloads the recording equipment like you see on Speed channel. are you agreeing with me? if not, i was referring to a plain-jane camera sending an a/v signal to a solid state recorder, nothing tape related. - .RJ - 08-16-2006 Apoc Wrote:It's not old and busted so you can't own it. Says the guy with the 10 year old, 30 lb camcorder.... - Evan - 08-16-2006 Mike Wrote:are you agreeing with me? if not, i was referring to a plain-jane camera sending an a/v signal to a solid state recorder, nothing tape related.ah, I thought you meant plain jane = tape cam when are you goign to bring some of your expensive gear from your work to the track to mount in my car?
- Goodspeed - 08-16-2006 .RJ Wrote:Goodspeed Wrote:^^thanks, video quality looks great. Is it the ZR60 or ZR600?? I'm only finding reviews for the 600 OK, but... http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=173 The ZR60 doesn't exist anymore, it was probably renamed to the cooler sounding ZR600 you see there. No need to get snappy  Are the "Hi8" camcorders the one that don't use tape? Chad, could it of been a Sony Handycam that you used? Thats their entry level camcorder, i've also been looking at those...anyone have any experience w/ them? - CaptainHenreh - 08-16-2006 Goodspeed Wrote:Are the "Hi8" camcorders the one that don't use tape? All (cheap) camcorders use either tape or MiniDVD's. - Apoc - 08-16-2006 Hi8 use larger tapes than miniDV and are lower quality analog. If you're looking for a "budget" format you shouldn't be considering anything less than D8. It's like Hi8, only digital. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_8 - Mike - 08-16-2006 Evan Wrote:when are you goign to bring some of your expensive gear from your work to the track to mount in my car? we don't have anything worth mounting in your car. - Apoc - 08-16-2006 .RJ Wrote:Apoc Wrote:It's not old and busted so you can't own it. It ain't busted... and actually works quite well. You can get a ZR60/80/90 on ebay or craigslist pretty cheap. I broke mine, picked up another of the same on craigslist for $200, used once. lol just messin w/ you....well I just got back from shopping around a little and played with both the Canon XR series and the Sony Handycam series and they seem nearly identical, features, pricewise etc. The Canons have image stabilization, so i'll probably go w/ one of those because thats definately a useful feature for what i'll be using it for
- JohnC - 08-01-2007 Not quite a year later - what cameras do you guys have now, and do you like them? I'd like to get something before heading to Oz. - Andy - 08-01-2007 JohnC Wrote:Not quite a year later - what cameras do you guys have now, and do you like them? I'd like to get something before heading to Oz. I bought a ZR70 for track abuse for a 100 bucks off ebay. Then my car broke. - Apoc - 08-01-2007 You should take the stickers off... they're only good for an additional 50 lines of resolution but their weight makes them a burden. |
