Is it just me, or is one Miata giving it to the other Miata IDB? - .RJ - 05-09-2004 Dammit... cant wait for road atlanta - KPWSerpiente - 05-09-2004 You are right Evan. Those ARE real men. And the form of racing I'm involved in right now ties in extremely well with the topic on hand. Yes, the Miata when compared to most cars, even other effeminate roadsters in its class, comes out on top as sissiest of the sissy's. Weak styling, lack of power, and owners such as yourself continue to make it a girly car. Now seriously, Miata's have a lot of room for improvement. The engines are not crap and flyin miata can take care of your lack of power. Some of the later models actually look half decent. But if you are going to write up one line in psuedo code implying that the miata is greater than the s2000 or corvette convertible or porche boxter s or any number of cars that look better and perform better you're going to have to do more than throw a few pictures up and insult drag racers. So which is it? Attack Travis because his car could be making more power than both of yours (dyno results coming soon) combined or defend your reasons for considering the Miata an excellent convertible. -T - .RJ - 05-09-2004 KPWSerpiente Wrote:Yes, the Miata when compared to most cars, even other effeminate roadsters in its class, comes out on top as sissiest of the sissy's. Weak styling, lack of power, and owners such as yourself continue to make it a girly car. The styling is classic roadser, and with that doesnt come with alot of power. Its one of those cars that you just dont need alot of power to have fun in. You ever driven one? If you drove one on track, you'd think twice about adding more power to it - I've driven Evan's on track, and had several students in them. Quote:Now seriously, Miata's have a lot of room for improvement. The engines are not crap and flyin miata can take care of your lack of power. Some of the later models actually look half decent. S2000, corvette and porsche also cost 2-4x as much as the miata. They're not even remotely comparable, other than they are RWD and have open tops. For 2-4x the price, they should perform better. Looks is subjective anyways, for the most part. I think M2 miatas look sweet. Once you start adding a ton of power, you change the dynamics of the car, and it may not always be a good thing. Quote:So which is it? Attack Travis because his car could be making more power than both of yours (dyno results coming soon) combined What kind of 1/4 mile time does it put down? Power != everything... I bet a Miata is faster around most tracks. Quote:or defend your reasons for considering the Miata an excellent convertible. Its lightweight, it has one of the best production suspensions on any car sold today, its handling and feedback are superb, and it just an involving driver's car - a great driver's car on track to work on your skills. Something that most newer cars have lost, with leather, sound systems, equpment/electronic packages with endless acronyms and big heavy 17" chrome wheels. - BLINGMW - 05-09-2004 Nice pics! Irrelevant though, none of those are convertables. - JackoliciousLegs - 05-10-2004 2nd gen rx7 convertible.. with a tii conversion - ButtDyno - 05-10-2004 What do y'all think about an NA MK2 MR2? I know it's not a convertible, but that and the Miata are on my "I have too many fucking miles on my WRX and need a beater that I can take to HPDE's so I don't mess up my pretty blingy car" list john - .RJ - 05-10-2004 ButtDyno Wrote:What do y'all think about an NA MK2 MR2? Good cars... Just get on the Miata bandwagon
- Mike - 05-10-2004 ButtDyno Wrote:What do y'all think about an NA MK2 MR2? Absolutely awesome, although a little lacking in power. - Dave - 05-11-2004 MichaelJComputer Wrote:ButtDyno Wrote:What do y'all think about an NA MK2 MR2? this can always be remedied. Perhaps an engine swap would be in order... - Mike - 05-11-2004 Well then it is no longer classed competitively and you should have just gotten the Turbo in the first place. - G.Irish - 05-11-2004 ButtDyno Wrote:What do y'all think about an NA MK2 MR2? I know it's not a convertible, but that and the Miata are on my "I have too many fucking miles on my WRX and need a beater that I can take to HPDE's so I don't mess up my pretty blingy car" list My Take: MR2 Pros -Mid Engined RWD, the perfect combination -Toyota reliability -Pretty nimble -Not too expensive Cons -Not as many aftermarket options -A little on the heavy side for its size -Will go through rear tires a bit quicker -Pain in the ass engine bay -Very little storage room Miata Pros -Lighter -Many, many more produced -You can sell it to an aspiring Spec Miata racer one day -Healthy aftermarket Cons -You will have to add a roll bar/cage -You may have to find a much coveted hard top. Doing so may require sexual favors and/or homicide The least hassle to get started will be the MR2. Aside from the roll bar and hard top issue I'd take the Miata. - ButtDyno - 05-11-2004 Thanks y'all ![]() Weight, power, etc don't matter to me a ton. I figure either one can get turned into a competitive autox car if I so desire but that's what the WRX is for (if I ever learn to drive). In fact having a car that's more on the gutless side is fine with me. I think the biggest PITA will be finding the "right" MR2. I am hoping some autocrosser sells their E-stock MR2 when the season is over so I can get a package deal with Konis and a 2nd set of wheels. If I can't find a good MR2 I will probably look at the Miata.. john - DierwulfBL - 05-11-2004 I love toyotas......I LOVE THEM. But 2 of my close friends have NA mr2s and i must say id go with the miata definitely, no questions asked. In every aspect of driving (acceleration, braking, handling) my POS 105 crank horses celica will put both mr2s to shame, but some old dude in a miata definitely smoked me hardcore one time. The 5s-fe(na mr2 engine) however will last around 300,000 miles and is completely bulletproof, also it's a HUGE pain in the ass to swap a 3sgte into a NA mr2, you are way better off turboing the 2.2L 16v in it as it is. It's almost the same choice as whether to turbo a ka24 or swapping in an sr20. You'd actually spend less turboing the stock engine to 7-9psi and itd hold that no problem and youd end up with more torque and about the same horses. Anyways, i'd still choose the miata, and im sure most of you would also after driving both hehe - Mike - 05-11-2004 DierwulfBL Wrote:In every aspect of driving (acceleration, braking, handling) my POS 105 crank horses celica will put both mr2s to shame, but some old dude in a miata definitely smoked me hardcore one time. Those few examples must speak for all Miatas (and their drivers) and MR2s (and their drivers). Especially since you got skillz! - JackoliciousLegs - 05-11-2004 no no NO mike! m4D sk1llz y0! - .RJ - 05-11-2004 Dont forget vTaCKz - ButtDyno - 05-11-2004 DierwulfBL Wrote:I love toyotas......I LOVE THEM. In every aspect of driving (acceleration, braking, handling) my POS 105 crank horses celica will put both mr2s to shame,I don't understand how your car which has less HP, more weight and front wheel drive puts the MR2 to shame? Is it your Teminator body kit? Anyway, like I said, it is going to be a beater / HPDE car, I don't care how fast it is, and the brakes are going to need a tune-up anyway. john - .RJ - 05-11-2004 ButtDyno Wrote:I am hoping some autocrosser sells their E-stock MR2 when the season is over so I can get a package deal with Konis and a 2nd set of wheels. If I can't find a good MR2 I will probably look at the Miata.. There's one for sale already... you miss it on the DC Solo 2 list? Good price too... - Evan - 05-11-2004 MR2 is considerably heavier than a miata. an underpowered rwd roadster really needs to be lightweight. I have instructed 2 weekends in a MR2 and its a very fun car, but you definately feel its weight. Also, the hardtop mr2s can be very hard to find, and a t-topped car is the same as a convertible as far as requiring a rollbar, etc. Based on comments from my students, brakes are questionable on the MR2. Not to mention a miata is more practical (never thought i would say that...) more storage. with a mr2 you really would need a trailer hitch and a small trailer if you plan on tracking it. |
