Dave sprayed all of the interior with my Dad's paint gun, and some sort of paint he bought.

I rattle-canned my VC, same paint as my calipers. I wish dave'd post the picture, it looks 100% grade-a pimp.

So a 3.88 can of 500F engine enamel at wal-mart painted:
2- 4 piston calipers (2 coats)
2- 2 piston calipers (2 coats)
4- single piston calipers
1 valve cover

Got my money's worth on that one.

Painting my valve cover > painting your valve cover Wink

I dunno, RJ.

My valve cover looks pretty pimp.

Yours, on the other hand, is on fire. That's going to be hard on your valve seals.

- Dave - 07-03-2004

I gots all you bitches in check. I was gonna do in yellow to keep the MM color scheme, but there was no yellow touch up paint to be had.

alrighty, yesterday I knocked a few things off the list of stuff to do.
Fresh intake filter
Fresh oil change (M1 5W30) also oil change in Supra at same time.
New lug studs and rebuilt/painted calipers on 3 of the 4 corners.
Before and after...
Tore out automatic brake pedal and put in manual brake pedal. This was an absolute bitch to do. Had to drop the steering column to get to some of the nuts and had to manage the brake booster/master cylinder on the other side of the firewall at the same time. Not to mention having about 1.5 sq ft to work in. Took me about 4 hours but finally got it done. You can also see on the upper left of the pic that the car is pre made for a clutch pedal; just needs a little drilling done and it will be done.
Things left to do:
install last rear caliper and lug studs
install clutch pedal
pull auto tranny
install manual tranny/clutch/flywheel/driveshaft

- Dave - 07-13-2004

got the auto tranny off tonight
manual flywheel is bolted up
also did a little bench racing trying to think of ways to acquire some more horsepower, since we all know that a bone stock KA will never win any competitions.....
more on that as things develop

wow, back from the dead
figured I'd update this thread, since I actually got somewhere with this car and I'm pretty sure it's gonna stick with me for a while. Quick update:
Decided not to pursue the GRM challenge, Although my actual monetary output so far has been pretty low (most of the expensive stuff came from Rex's car :-) ), I'd still be out of the budget.
Finished conversion from automatic to manual transmission; took a while to get it started though
Installed KYB AGX shocks from Rex's red 240 (which makes this the 3rd car they were installed on) with TEIN S-tech springs.
Upgraded to 300zx brakes all around with stainless steel lines
Put in J30 LSD
Put a newer (green) door on the passenger side b/c the wire for the window regulator snapped,
Swapped in S14 seats and Canadian-spec seatbelts
Rolled the fenders and switched over to wheels from a TT 300zx
Swapped over to a fresher KA engine (recently compression tested at 173/175/173/165) b/c older one had leaking valve stem seals. Dynoed at 129 hp and 132 torque.
Weighed in a 2677 w/o driver
Pacesetter header
877 miles of track abuse and still as reliable as ever

- Dave - 03-08-2006

So, Linds loves autocrossing this car, and I still really enjoy driving it. I've decided to throw a little money at it, since I really haven't done much of anything to it in the past 6 months.
I've started the process of replacing the two intake manifold gaskets and exchanging the upper intake manifold for one that still has the butterflies (yeah, its a process considering you have to remove the alternator, starter, oil filter, and two beefy brackets attaching to the block, along with all the normal coolant and electrical connections).
I'm also going to get a pair of sway bars and do the work to swap over to the 300zx master cylinder.

Dave Wrote:Weighed in a 2677 w/o driver
shit I thought these cars were more in the 2400 lb range.

- Dave - 03-08-2006

i imagine that it could get down to that, but not without some work. I think this weight was based on it being essentially stock except no spare tire.

- Dave - 04-14-2006

holy shit.

The car passed inspection yesterday. Wonders never cease.

In other news, I'm in the works of fabricating lines for the 300zx master cylinder. It has 3 ports, 1 is one size, and the other 2 are a different size. How fucked up is that?!?! So one of my factory lines fits perfectly. Nobody make the appropriate adapater to make it work either :-(. I had to snip the other two lines, put a different end, and flare it, then hook it up. However, the flares just don't like to fit and won't hold any pressure. Pete, what did you end up doing when you went through this.

Actually, all I have done is install the MC and remove and install the brake lines; the guys over and dale engineering are doing the flaring. Hopefully I'll get this taken care of next week.

Edit: my bling bling strut braces came in today too.

- PDenbigh - 04-15-2006

Dave,

My solution was that I went to a JY and got the proper fitting from a T-Bird (since I'm using a T-bird MC). And as far as getting it to work, honestly I just had to practice a lot to get the skill of a double flare working. If you need help hit me up, I'm free all weekend!

Peter

Dave, do you still live there? Isnt that the hellfish house? I got drunk there last night...

- Dave - 04-15-2006

nah, i lived there 2 years ago, before it became the offivial hellfish house (we still had one living there at the time).
I'll give ya a ring Pete.

- Dave - 06-27-2006

quick update. The fuzions that I had are roasted (I hydroplane regularly at street speeds) so I bought some cheapy Sumitumos for Summit.. Also replaced the blown rear shock, so it will actually handle like a normal car hopefully. Linds is driving it in HPDE 1 at the Hizzy Fizzy, and then it will be slowly overhauled towards being more of a SRX cup car than a street-track car. Dropped it off this week for a rollbar install. Hopefully getting some harnesses and coils soon, and have bigger sway bars sitting in the garage (was hoping to install before Summit, but don't want to install them without any time for Linds to get used to them)

- .RJ - 06-27-2006

You would be amazed at what a real set of tires and springs will do to the car.... Smile

- Dave - 06-27-2006

I know, but money was tight right now (2 rents, took a pay hit at Sheetz when moved, still job hunting) and I fully intend on tires and "real" :-) suspension being the first thing the car sees in the future. You know this, we bench race on IM all the time :-)
