- Evan - 06-09-2006 New GMRS are 5 watt with 18 mile range. That degrades pretty quick with trees and buildings, but in general most racetracks are relatively open, and even with a 1/4 - 1/5 degredation, thats more than enough to get you around every racetrack in the country. pair them up with a motorcycle headset with PTT button mounted on the steering wheel and it should, at least in concept, make for an economical radio set up. Not as bulletproof as yours no doubt, but a lot less money! - white_2kgt - 06-09-2006 Evan Wrote:New GMRS are 5 watt with 18 mile range. I got all mine 2nd hand. I'd bet I paid just a tad more for the whole setup than you would for brand new GMRS ones with all that gear. Give it a shot if you want, but they make these radio's for a reason. If the GMRS ones were so good public safety groups would be using them. There is a PSWN team near you at BAH, christina works for them, ask around the office about the different radio's. I know there are people there than work with all kinds of them day in and day out they would have much more knowledge about that sort of stuff. - D_Eclipse9916 - 06-09-2006 ill help you guys out friday and saturday, but wont get there till later on friday.... - bimmerboodle - 06-12-2006 white_2kgt Wrote:I'm tellin.....Evan Wrote:white_2kgt Wrote:I have 2 Vertex and 1 Tekk radio.like the blingin real radios? those are tons of money. - bimmerboodle - 06-12-2006 white_2kgt Wrote:Public Safety uses a restricted portion of the radio spectrum to reduce interference, There are some GRMS radios that can use repeaters for extra distance.Evan Wrote:New GMRS are 5 watt with 18 mile range.
