- Ryan T - 05-27-2005 I talked to him today. He's going to get some pics as soon as he can. He's at his parents house right now, and will be traveling back to where the car is in the next day or so. - Rex4life - 05-27-2005 ingle tear: Nice car - bimmerboodle - 05-28-2005 I hate it when those cool cars have to go. When I had my first kid in 1998, my E30 325iS had to go. Worst decision I was ever forced to make. I am expecting kid #2 now and the 89 E30 325i is STAYING this time..... - JackoliciousLegs - 05-31-2005 Well, shit. I haven't even gotten home and I've gotten an offer for 4k on it... sight unseen. If I get 5 or more... it's going to be REAL REEEEEAL hard to turn down an M3 to take with me to Chicago... ARGH - .RJ - 05-31-2005 Fuck a M3..... Are you going to have a place to work on it? Because you will need to.... - JackoliciousLegs - 05-31-2005 Are they really that bad? I mean, I've heard your mixed stories... but if all maintenance done... they're really bad?? I figured they'd share BMW's good reputation as far as reliability goes. Also, whether I get a garage will also affect the decision. ---side note: I posted the rx for sale after I'd been gone for 2 weeks. I knew that I'd back out if I drove it again. Indeed, I LOOOOVE driving that car. I just took a drive this morning and it was amazing. I just don't know if I can live without a sports car anymore... lol. /side note Ok, realistically, it will have to take a really great deal and I'll wait til the end of this month to decide because I need to figure out whether I'll have a garage. So yeah, tell me about M3 (un)reliability... - .RJ - 05-31-2005 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:So yeah, tell me about M3 (un)reliability... Search the webbernet....... There was also an article in the bimmer magazine about 2 months ago. Cooling system needs to be replaced (everything) because it will fail at a bad time. Suspension bushings, you might get 80k on them before they are worn out and should be replaced, or maybe 100k on them before they start making odd vibrations and noise under the chassis. Shocks - probably 80-100k also, depending on use, etc. Trans mounts and shifter - will definately wear out and need replacement. There are other various odds and ends that will fail... the OBC, the o2 sensor(s), emissions air pumps, electrical bits, etc. Shit happens with those cars - the body and drivetrain are great, but seems like the rest of the stuff doesnt hold up. Interior can and will fall apart if the car wasnt really cared for (not really an issue for you after the purchase, just be careful who you buy from). The bottom line is they are great cars if you have the time to put some attention into them on a somewhat regular basis - if you're buying a car with 60-80k on it, then expect to be spending some quality time with it while you own it. If you can afford it, maybe a 98-99 with low miles could avoid a lot of these issue, but it will cost you. - Feersty - 05-31-2005 Thanks for the info RJ, it is very valuable. - JackoliciousLegs - 06-02-2005 Starting to tend to the inquiries today... Geezus. 5 emails and one phone message. Time to start the bidding! - damnit458 - 06-02-2005 I cant believe the M3 has that many reliability issues. That seems a little rediculous. You'd think if you were going to try and sell a nice, expensive car you would atleast take the time to work out all the kinks. - Sijray21 - 06-02-2005 yeah that was kind of good to know, i remember having that conversation with you (rj) before. I still love the M3 and as soon as those parts are replaced i think the car will last a while, but i guess that's why you see soo many of them for sale with right around 80-90k miles on them. :? Thanks for the info though and sorry you have to get rid of the rx...beautiful car and i know you took great care of it. - Evan - 06-02-2005 *shrug* most of the "problems" RJ says are typical of any used car of that mileage, especially if you expect a car to be in like-new condition. Maintenence and reliability on the M3 isnt significantly more than any other car - JackoliciousLegs - 06-02-2005 Would you buy a 92 325is that's been converted to an M3 (engine, body, interior) with 90k on the motor for 6500? 120k on chassis. I'm thinking track car. - Dave - 06-02-2005 yes, i would. It's like getting M3 without paying the absurd insurance - PDenbigh - 06-02-2005 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:Would you buy a 92 325is that's been converted to an M3 (engine, body, interior) with 90k on the motor for 6500? 120k on chassis. I'm thinking track car. What about suspension? Isn't that one of the sweetest things about that car? - Evan - 06-02-2005 M3 brakes, M3 LSD.... - .RJ - 06-02-2005 Evan Wrote:Maintenence and reliability on the M3 isnt significantly more than any other car Its significantly more than most honda/acuras.... IMHO - damnit458 - 06-03-2005 Jack hows the car sale going? - JackoliciousLegs - 06-03-2005 Well, I just got back to NoVa yesterday and gave call-backs. Today I'm organizing weekend visits if I can. - JackoliciousLegs - 06-04-2005 First official bid in for 4500. This one guy says he'll be coming in to pick it up for 6 flat in 3 days. I don't believe it til I see it. Wish me luck. |
