pit them yea... pit em enough that to polish them back out it would be a bitch.. but if you are going to paint or powdercoat them then those little ass pits would be covered / filled with paint or powdercoat. call up some powdercoaters.. see what they recomend... thats what i have always done

I think I'm going to buy some diluted hydrochloric acid (about 15%) and brush it onto the rims. It should bring the chrome right off and leave the nickel. The nickel has a slightly gold/chrome look to it and I think it looks pretty cool. So we'll see how that looks. If it looks bad, I'll go ahead and take them to a shop and have it removed professionally.

doesn't nickel tarnish very easily?

brasso to polish them after the chrome is off, or you think it'll take the chrome off?

- Evan - 06-13-2005

nah, to polish the "easily tarnished" nickel

- Mike - 06-13-2005

you can contact rob for secret polishing techniques.

Turns out that 2600psi of water pressure from a 5hp pressurewasher will pull the chrome and nickel right off the rim. It's gonna take a little time to do it all, but its more time consuming than it is difficult.

sounds like a good project for a hot june day! since you're from SoVa, make sure you do it with some cut off jean shorts, a big johnson shirt, and one of those baseball caps that you can sit two beers in (beers must be either miller or PBR) 8)

Well, the beer of choice for the job is going to be Killians. I have to devise a better place to do it than the driveway though, because when I hit the rim with the water the first time it threw a piece of chrome into my neighbors yard! It flings little pieces of sharp chrome all over the driveway, so I need to find a confined space to do it in that has water access.

Well after weeks of beer and blasting all the chrome is gone. There is still a little bit of nickel on the rim, but I'm just going to sand it down and leave it alone, you can paint/powdercoat over nickel.

So now the big question, what color do these rims need to be? Input required.
