Nah, I'm just an insufferable dork.

My head a splode!

- CaptainHenreh - 11-10-2004

If anyone wants to help!

Tonight! 11-10-2004! Unknown time, call me or Dave. (probably after 7)
Tomorrow! 11-11-2004 --- 5PM! Start! We can grill food, if there's interest.
Sunday! 11-14-2004 ----- 2pm! Ditto!

Also, Dad's going to be honing the cyl. walls on both the KA and the GL engines, he'll probably do the GL tonight (metro 1.0L) and the KA some other time. (Nissan 2.4L)

So if you've never seen that, here's your chance. Smile

Can we bring other shortblocks for him to do? Wink

- CaptainHenreh - 11-10-2004

Actually, if you've got one to do and want to bring it, I could probably get him to do it. It's an old-style stone-hone, if that matters. Why, you got a block you need honed?

- CaptainHenreh - 11-15-2004

ERPDAYT!

Belts, covers, and other crap removed. The head is laid bare, the cams are ready to exit the head and be put in a bath.

Left to do:

Remove vaccum lines
Remove sensors and shit
Unbolt downpipe
Remove head.

Reverse.

Nah, I was just joking.. At least for now

- .RJ - 11-15-2004

Rex, you going to have the head decked before you put it back on?

- CaptainHenreh - 11-15-2004

.RJ Wrote:Rex, you going to have the head decked before you put it back on?

I doubt it. Dave says he didnt' get it real hot, and I have no reason not to believe him. I'll check it with a straightedge and a feeler, and if it's out, I'll have it decked. If it's within tolerance...I just don't have the money.

Anyway, the head should be off tonight if all goes as planned, and I'll know more. I might take some pictures, though I doubt many of you will ever see a 1JZ again, and so hardly give a shit. Wink

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Considering how long I'm considering keeping the Supra in dry-dock, maybe I will just go ahead and get everything machined.

Anyway, the head won't come off. All the bolts are out, nothing holding the head down but JDM Toyota Turbo Voodoo.

Seriously, this isn't a joke. We used a slide hammer, we ran a metal pole through a chain and had dave and I do squat thrusts against the chain. We've rocked it back and forth, we slammed the intake manifold with a broomstick and a sledgehammer. We've rocked the head, we cranked with the bolts out hoping compression pressure would knock the head off. We put oil in the cylinders and hand-turned the engine hoping it would push the head off, or just freaking loosen the thing so we could take it off.

No. Fucking. Dice.
All of this trouble to break...nothing loose. We're sure there's a dowel in there someplace, maybe that hasn't been broken loose since it left the factory, and it's just being difficult.

So we're thinking John Deere now. I really wanted to avoid that. I'm gonna try a rubber mallot first, slam it against the intake manifold, hoping to jar it loose. Then we'll have Green give it a shot.

you MUST get pics of that, or even video please. haha, better yet let us all know and we'll come on out!

- Jewels - 11-17-2004

You all should have seen the Green pull out the engine from Dave's black 240, it was cool as hell, cause nothing stops the Tractor when it sees a task to perform. But, I will make sure some pictures get taken even if I have to go to the Cave and take them myself.

Sounds like a Penthouse Letter.

"So there I was, digging iron in one hand and chain in the other. Jumper cables were wrapped around my shoulder and there was motor oil and deisel fuel everywhere. I'd worked at her all day. I'd rocked her, I pulled at ever part she had, I smacked her, I stuck things every place I could think of and wiggled and she just wouldn't get off. So I decided I would have to go get the tractor..."

I'll add to this. They are cheap, and very good. They'er a circle track shop, and those guys wind up their engines hard, so they have some great expereince. They did all my block work and assembly, and so far, I'm very impressed.

One other note though, they are slow, and usually stay pretty backed up, so if you want something done, get it in there ASAP. They'er about 5 miles out 33 West, on the left. A pretty good jewel to be found in Harrisonburg.

When we say cheap...how cheap is cheap? And I'm in no real hurry. I have alot to do to the car before it's completely roadworthy. Frankly, looking at this harness I'm surprised the thing ran at all. So I want to go over the wiring harness, save up for my exhaust cutout, and maybe get some things powedercoated while I have it all off. As soon as I get the head off, I may send it to those guys, if the price is right. I know machine work isn't cheap.

Also, since the block is Iron, does it really need to be done too?
