Fix up both as cheaply, but correctly, as possible. Sell both for profit. Sit on profit for a minimum of one month while weighing next, "fun" car options.
Avoid purchasing another sub 1K car.

Buys busted E30, fixes up busted E30 because it’s more expensive than buying a Miata that hasn’t moved for 8 years. Yep, this is the super highway to getting a reliable track car.
My in head timeline of the upcoming year.
Within the next 1 month:
Sells E30
Throws a lot of money at the Miata in parts
Within 3 months
Gushes how awesome the car is, maybe takes it on a photo shoot.
Within 6 months
Runs into a semi-complex mechanical problem, possibly self inflicted.
Gets fed up, sells car, complains about money/time/money and time.
Buys a BMW of some sort.
1 year
Repeat all of the above, buys another $600 Miata.

Bruh, your wallet cannot afford both. Leave the T4R alone as that thing is gonna have the best resale value of all your car decisions in the last 9 months.

E30 is listed, just need to pull plugs tonight and check if I gapped them poorly or fouled them because there is a misfire under load.
Looking to do brakes, a new top, get wheels and tires on this, change the fluids, detail it, drive it for a few weeks as the weather improves to feel it out, then either sell or keep. I'm hoping it's good and I find the will to sell it.
The E30 is for sale with bottle caps as an option so hopefully I can keep my wheels from it. I got a huge Amazon gift card from work so I'll source parts and fluid from there. Searching for a used top now.
It seems everyone takes me "thinking out loud" as solid plans. I don't know where I expressed wanting to lift the 4runner within the last 6 months except for a joke on instagram.
I only stand to lose $1000 or so on the e30 if we include fluids and tags and title. It was a very cool experience to own one and I don't regret anything. All of my other cars I've pretty much broken even or lost $500 or so. If you all circlejerking about how bad my decisions are makes you sleep better at night, I'm happy to help.

So question (I know this has probably been covered in the past but I can't remember the answer(s)) - what do you want out of your enjoyment with cars? Do you want a fun street car that can handle auto-x and the occasional track day? Do you want a "track" car that won't be driven on the street except maybe to/from events? Are you looking to trailer something with your T4R?
I think a lot of the noise and frankly confusion others feel in your threads could be cleaned up with a simple list of "what I like/what I don't like" about the cars you currently own, and what you ultimately want to do with the cars you do own, or don't own yet. I know there's the "thoughts" thread over in the Lounge that touches on some of this but hell that thing is probably past it by this point. Just want to help if you ask for advice and stuff - a lot of the same moves have been made time and again and I'm not feeling the kind of love I'd hope you'd have for your projects, from your posts about the cars you've had.
That said I love me some Miata so I hope this one goes excellently for you

After karting on Saturday, I'm most likely meeting someone in Richmond who is giving me a top on frame for free if I remove it from his car.
Polen, Dj, pleas elaborate what makes that NB interesting at all? I don't plan to ever buy an NA/NB again unless there is money to be made, it's given to me, or it's turning into a race car. Otherwise it's too small for me.
***IF I WAS TO SPIT BALL HYPOTHETICAL MADE UP SCENARIOS*** I might look at an E36 M or E46 330 after sitting on this money for a while, but I don't know if I want to go through the process of buying an old BMW again just yet.
Might consider buying a prepped Miata for DE stuff, but I would absolutely need to have some other kind of car as well.

A) Wanted a cheap/fun/reliable car to autox and do some tracking with
OR
B) Flip it to make money
So far we have seen you not exactly do well at either, at least this ones satisfies A?
You do you man, I won't comment anymore. Just trying to help gain perspective. You say you are losing $1,000 on an E30 you planned to flip (and now is up for $4k). That $4k plus $1000 you lost would have had you in that nice Miata....

Taylor - There's not some conspiracy to hate on everything you do. The comments in this thread appear to be legitimate attempts to point out how your actions are counter to your stated desires. If you want out of the cycle you appear to be in, take some of these responses (i.e. Jake) to heart.

My thoughts are you should change "what car do I want next" to "what are my priorities for the next 5 years and what do I want and where do I want to be" and then figure out what kind car-related entertainment fits that goal. Stop worrying about a car, I think you got other things to figure out first.
