Sat in this today, can confirm it's pretty nice. The rear plastic window is actually clear enough to see out of, which I'm not familiar with.

Please Matt, bleed the clutch. Actually, no. I'll just do it when you bring it up here next.

Re: Princess Blanca : The NA6 - *insertusernamehere* - 07-10-2017

Alrighty, all was well with Mrs. B up until 2 Thursdays ago.

It was 4pm on a well lit, clear day in Waynesboro, Va and the workday was going as expected. So I'm off to my break now and I decide to run up the mountain to get some gourmet popcorn. Mmm delicious. And then it was time to head back down, so I fire it up and *thud*thud*thud coming from the engine bay and it goes with the speed of the motor. I get back to work and now it sounds even louder and concerning. It sounded like a bad motor. Just about gave me a heart attack that lasted a couple days.

Then I drove it home and went away for the weekend. Thanks for the loaner Dave!

Monday - Wednesday i didn't get a chance to get into it. The sound also got very quiet. Still drove.

Thursday. It's making a wracket. So I meet up with Scott down in Waynesboro and we're going through it trying to find the issue, then his dad pops by and hears/looks at the car and spotted the crank pulley wobbling around. Oh my. So Scott tightens up the pulley bolts, fired it up and silence! Holy smokes, I was relieved.

We didn't use a torque wrench at Scott's place so I decided I was gonna go over it with a torque wrench to make sure the specs are good. I gave it like 1/5 of a turn and head of the bolt just lays it's head down in the pulley. Yaaayyy

So first I decided I was gonna leave it and take it to a shop, but then I went to bed and developed confidence, greeaaaaatttt. So then i decided what I'll do is take off the pulley, extract the bolt with it off, get new bolts and put her back on.

I got the pulley off, another one of the crank pulley bolts broke, the woodruff key looks nothing like it should and might even be broken and everything is generally just ugly down there. Also the big crank pulley bolt was too easy to get loose with the size ratchet I was using. I don't think it was on properly. I have no idea what in the world has happened down here and I sure as heck can't fix it. Calling shops tomorrow to have someone get the bolts out and put the pulley back on properly. Guess I'll need a tow, can anyone in hburg can help with that? Re: Princess Blanca : The NA6 - Senor_Taylor - 07-10-2017

I'm hoping for you that you don't need a new crank shaft if the keyway is damaged. Looks like the last person to do the timing belt didn't torque the main crank pulley bolt down and that caused it to wobble and destroy the key.

Sorry man.

Yep. Same thoughts. Sucks. Oh well. It shouldn't be too bad.

Re: Princess Blanca : The NA6 - *insertusernamehere* - 07-11-2017

Well it's getting looked at Friday. Now that this has been better explained to me, it's not as simple as just reassembling the pulley. They'll look and see how bad the keyway is and see if it can be saved. If not I'll need to buy an engine. Lovely. With my luck I'm going to need an engine. I'm amazed how all is fine one day and then not.

My diagnosis too. Looks like they didn't do the proper torque and the bolts slowly backed out, causing the wobble (and sound) and damaged the bolts and the key.

Depends on how the the keyway is. If the nose is fine, replace the pulley, the bolts, new woodruff key, the crankshaft gear and bolt it back together. It should be just fine.

The shop called and said "yeah I'm sorry man but I just don't see anyway that keyway is gonna hold the key I don't think it'll be able to go back together" and "did...did ..anyone try to drill your keyway before". And all that means to me is it needs a new crank, which is a rebuild or buy a new motor.

EITHER WAY THIS MUST MEAN ITS TIME TO HAVE A PARTY RIGHT?!?!

Look, excitement is just about the only thing I'm gonna be able to let myself feel or I might lose it on the first person to piss me off today hahahaha. This is great.

Well, you've got us to help for sure. We can work out a game plan tonight, okay?

Re: Princess Blanca : The NA6 - D_Eclipse9916 - 08-11-2017

Can you stop buying cheap cars? Time for a loan on a brand new Honda fit :p

Re: Princess Blanca : The NA6 - ViPER1313 - 08-11-2017

Or.... just put a bit of JB weld on the key, get it close, install the gear and damper. The key is only for timing.... it does not hold the gear in place..... pressure from the crank bolt does. Then torque that b to 300 or 400 ft lbs with a strong ass impact, drive on.

Dude that's such a great idea though! Look at all the possibilities. It's all up hill from here! May as well slap a turbo on it too eh?

Re: Princess Blanca : The NA6 - Jake - 08-11-2017

Talk to my friend Tyler, you could probably get a good lease/purchase deal on a new Fiesta ST. Apparently they're doing good discounts right now. Fun car and reliable because new/warranty.

I'm down for a Miata motor swap, too. Can be done in a day or so and not super hard.

Re: Princess Blanca : The NA6 - Senor_Taylor - 08-11-2017

Yeah, do look up the JB weld fix. It's pretty common on the Short nose cranks.
