Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 02-10-2017 So I got a 4 day weekend coming up after Turducken. The original plan was to get the engine broken in this weekend and in the car the next but I'm thinking of just going HAM next weekend instead of either A) skipping out on Turducken or B) driving down to Newport News and back with a massive hang over just to make a few braided lines and hook up some radiator hoses. The plan for the 4 day should look like this: Friday: fuel lines power steering lines fix my fender extension and reattach it sand down the remaining paint chips and get some rust converter on them hook up the radiator hoses if the radiator support is actually finished install my Lokar gas pedal Saturday: get the engine broken in. Gonna have to steal the carb and exhaust off my dad's truck to get this done so it'll likely take most of the day Sunday/Monday: Ideally I'd like to get the damn thing in the car but most likely it'll get pushed to the next working weekend. I'd also like to start the installation of the wiring kit. Really need my dad's help on both of these unless someone here wants to come down all the way out there and lend a hand. With it in the car I get an idea for what size driveshaft I need and hit the junkyard in search of that. After that it's a matter of hooking up brakes and steering. Seems pretty doable I just need the help inb4 the motor destroys itself on the runstand Re: The Lawn Dart - EclipseTurbno93 - 02-10-2017 I'm excited to hopefully see this thing at the car show. You've done some proper work, man. I demand a video of your first start-up on the run stand. Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 02-14-2017 Not gonna lie, pretty nervous about this weekend. If it doesn't go well, odds are it's not making the show and I know I'm not going to take it very well. Aside from getting the rear end on the car back in July I feel like not much has been done. It's always too hot or too cold, too many things going on at the house, too many weekends where just about everything was pushed to "some other time" only to be pushed back again. Hell, I still have a gaping hole in my rear quarter panel from the summer when I was talked out of using bondo and to do it "right". I bought a friend a $250 gas bottle to weld a patch and it simply never got done. Long story, short: It's going to be REAL tempting to just whip out a credit card and roll the damn thing to a shop if this weekend doesn't go smoothly. I at least want to see the motor in the car at the end of the weekend but I know deep down that's being optimistic and that side of me is never right. Re: The Lawn Dart - Jeff - 02-15-2017 Holy shit dude we need to hang out. How come no one hit me in the PM and said "there is a new Mopar person in MM" where were you homies!? I'm balls deep in my own smallblock build I didn't plan on so I can totally relate. Picked up a 68 D100 down in GA turned out to have a 318 out of an 83 Van with a burned valve. Original plan was to pull 318, clean and paint, install 4bbl and roll on 18 wheeler. Once I found burned valve, off came heads, inside less than great. Long story short I got a 78 318 of CL for $200 and I'm freshening the bottom end, I have a set of Indy SS valve cylinder heads on the bench and a comp cam in the mail...how did paint the motor turn into a build? WTF right? Sweet Dart, only think I don't like is the ford 88. I'm a purest, I would have done a Dana 44 out of a grand Cherokee or just got an 8.75 and an Eldorado brake kit like I did for my 57 Chrysler... but admittedly I have more in my brakes than you have in your whole rear. We need to get together and drink beers sometime. Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 02-16-2017 Jeff Wrote:Holy shit dude we need to hang out. In hindsight I could have gone with a B-body 8.75 and made it work but even those were double the price and that's not even factoring in shipping. I figured with the car being like 90% aftermarket parts there's no real harm in it. A 73 Dart Sport with manual drums and no A/C isn't exactly a desirable factory restoration but some people still get really upset about it. It's not like I LS swapped a 340 Demon haha. There's some lines even I wouldn't cross. Re: The Lawn Dart - Jeff - 02-16-2017 Don't get me wrong I don't do restorations! My Challenger is a budget pro touring type deal. I just keep stuff as mopar as I can. I have a b-body 8 3/4 ready to go in my 57, I'll toss up some pics it's beautiful! Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 02-16-2017 I'm definitely down to grab some beers and see that Challenger in person some time. I'm gonna be pretty busy between now and the car show getting this thing done but hopefully I'll catch you there. Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 02-17-2017 ![]() 1. Turns out 1/2in NPT is a lot bigger than 1/2in, who knew. The heater hose fitting I have won't work. 2. My instrument panel did not get delivered even though the bezel for it did. Same order, different box and tracking number. UPS is investigating. 3. Threw the starter on finally and realized something is wrong. It's too far from the flywheel to make contact and it's too far out to get headers on the rear stud. Sooooo yeah definitely not firing up the motor this weekend. Current plan is to just throw the damn thing in the car with the transmission and just pray nothing is fucking leaking. Can't say I didn't see this coming. Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 02-17-2017 Mystery solved: my dad ordered a 130 tooth flywheel (10.5") instead of a 143 tooth flywheel (11"). No wonder it's $100/hr to pay someone to do this shit. Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 02-19-2017 Went with Plan C and just went home. Was feeling like shit and plus my uncle passed away so there was a lotta people at the house not too interested in car things. Better luck next time I guess. Re: The Lawn Dart - Jeff - 02-19-2017 Sorry to hear about your uncle.
Re: The Lawn Dart - *insertusernamehere* - 02-20-2017 Rough weekend :/ Better luck next time indeed! Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 02-24-2017 Man what a shitshow of a weekend that was. Glad to not be touching it this weekend. Finally feeling better but I'll be flying to Michigan to bring the girlfriend, her son and the Lancer to VA. Could definitely use a weekend of boobs and beer after last weekend. Think I have everything sorted but the heater hose fitting. Edelbrock doesn't seem to carry a 1/4" NPT to 1/2" barb fitting, which is weird because it's a goddamn edelbrock intake. I can probably find what i need on Summit doh just pissed this is as difficult as it is. Re: The Lawn Dart - Senor_Taylor - 02-24-2017 Deceus Wrote:Could definitely use a weekend of boobs and beer after last weekend. Amen, brother. Re: The Lawn Dart - Jeff - 02-27-2017 Boobs and beer make most things better. Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 03-05-2017 Soo didn't get to touch it again this weekend because Summit misunderstood when I said UPS lost the panel but delivered the bezel because they mailed me another bezel. Fortunately this was something I caught before the 6 hour round trip and not after. I'm expecting next weekend to not be a good weekend for my dad because that's just how this thing has been going. Perhaps the end of the year is a more realistic goal ... Re: The Lawn Dart - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-06-2017 Don't get discouraged. Projects are tough enough as it is without family issues. Projects are called projects for a reason and savor each small victory. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Re: The Lawn Dart - Deceus - 03-06-2017 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Don't get discouraged. I don't hold it against him but I think he just has too much on his plate without all this. Just sucks knowing my car could probably be rolling after a long weekend with some knowledgeable help. |
