Re: MM Car calender - Stormtrooper135i - 02-09-2014 Samantha Wrote:Not the whole calendar Samantha, im just throwing ideas out. And now that i think about it, were not advertising girls, but then again we want more than just people to join that have sports cars, we want trucks as well, so maybe just some muddy trucks. Agreed, the girls would make it tacky and don't think it would look good on the car club through JMU's eyes.Stormtrooper135i Wrote:well the girls would be muddy posing in some sort of manner. Re: MM Car calender - Samantha - 02-09-2014 Stormtrooper135i Wrote:so i personally feel dedicating an hour or so to each side of campus handing flyers out and explaining to people what we do to put them in a comfort zone will encourage more people to join and be dedicated future members. I like. I had no idea what MM was until a friend invited me to the drag strip. My friend wasn't even a member; he was invited by someone else. The main thing that made me hesitant/afraid to join was the fact that all I have is the car interest, and not the actual cool car. So having someone there to reassure people that they're qualified to join seems like it would make a big difference. Re: MM Car calender - *insertusernamehere* - 02-09-2014 Stormtrooper135i Wrote:*insertusernamehere* Wrote:Email, eh, well i never delete our MM emails, but as we all know we get so much junk mail being JMU students and i think some just fly thru there emails and delete everything until they get to what they might feel as important. A flyer/brochure or whatever i think would be great to get the word out on what the club entails, even if they read it for 5 sec then throw it back down on the table, its still getting the word out.Stormtrooper135i Wrote:Maybe even some cool flyers that could be posted around campus by all us members Car people will find an email about a car club pertinent, i think :dunno: Idk just a quick way to reach everyone and say all you need to say at once. I can definitely understand the comfort zone part too so that could help for sure! I felt comfortable with showing up after meeting Dan at Student Org night. Dude, everything thing I think and am ready to post... you've already posted. You know what's up. We definitely need e-mails sent out. Anyone knowing about cars would notice the e-mail, you can't say it isn't true. I've had two people in the last 2 weeks talk to me about MM and say they didn't want to join because they had only heard small things about it and that it was a small-time ricer group which isn't true. I actually had a guy contact me about MM because I have my own cards made up for our local chapter of TacomaWorld I helped start and I left him one. He found me and found out about MM. I've actually done more stuff with TacomaWorld than MM this year so far... :/ Re: MM Car calender - CaptainHenreh - 02-10-2014 I've been picking heavy things up and putting them down all weekend so I missed this thread but: #1: it's a CalendAr. Jesus. The red squiggly line means you need to right click on it to get it spelled right. #2: This idea was thrown up as a fund-raiser in 2011, as Polecat mentioned. Sort of a classic garage-wall 'Ladies and Cars' calendar. You can read the thread here. It failed for a number of reasons: A: It was deemed (rightly or wrongly) as offensive to women. Just because it's a staple of car culture "doesn't make it right", I was told. We had our first shoot car/location pulled for this reason. B: We had 3 sponsors, each buying a themed month...this still wasn't enough money to print enough calendars to sell ON campus. There was a lot of concern that we were doing this for a non-JMU audience, and which did we want more: Increased membership or a (modestly) increased bank account. If it wasn't going to be local, then how would we differentiate ourselves from any bullshit calendar they could buy in the mall? And if it was going to be local, shouldnt' we use local talent, which there was not enough OF to sell the calendar to anyone other than MMers. Only MMers and real car nuts think a E36 race car is cool. Everyone else just sees exactly what the "regular car reviews" guy sees. And if there are real car nuts at JMU who aren't in MM, then it isn't a calendar we need. C: You can barely get current students to the track when they have a ride, floorspace, and free beer. Getting them to do ANYTHING is herding cats, and that includes anything related to pursuing sponsors, selling calendars, organizing quotes for printing, everything. It was a nightmare. #3: If you guys just want to all get together and take pictures of your cars and make a calendar, knock yourself out. It would be fun and nice and neat. But if you're going to try to use it as a recruitment or fundraising tool, take a good look at your expectations vs reality. Re: MM Car calender - ispoonwithmugen - 02-10-2014 ^ Exactly what I was wanting to get at. Next week we'll go over more recruiting stuff with everyone and work some more things out but I just don't think that the calendar is the best option. Re: MM Car calender - CaptainHenreh - 02-10-2014 I don't want to be discouraging, it's just this club's been here for 12+ years. A lot of the ideas have come through and been shat upon while you guys were in elementary school. It's ok to re-hash old ideas, otherwise we'd still believe in the Geocentric astrophysics model...but you need to be extra careful thinking through the ideas of Those That Came Before. Re: MM Car calender - Jake - 02-10-2014 I'd buy a calendar, and I'd have my car(s) in a calendar, but IMO it should be just for us about the cars, if we choose to pursue it. Rex makes some good points. Also, the only place I have a calendar hung up is in my cube at work, and for various reasons, having muddy half-nakie chicks in it would not go over well. Re: MM Car calender - Senor_Taylor - 02-10-2014 Damn, guys, you're acting like we murdered someone. None of us knew because we're new to the club and no one has told us anything. Can't blame us for wanting to finally do something MM related and we're just shooting ideas out there, which is more than has been happening in MM lately... We all see now that the calendar will fail. As far as the red squiggly under calender, it must be invisible. Or maybe "Calender" is actually a word... so it's an honest mistake. But we can keep acting like I'm stupid, it's all good. ![]() But thanks for saying it nicely. Hey man, I'm not being angry. Just saying, I can't have naked girls on my wall at work, and even if I could, I personally might not have much interest  Re: MM Car calender - Senor_Taylor - 02-10-2014 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Senor_Taylor Wrote:Damn, guys, you're acting like we murdered someone. None of us knew because we're new to the club and no one has told us anything. JPolen01 Wrote:Rex and I have talked this over before. We even had different months planned out with themes and all and incorporated local businesses as sponsors. I went as far as finding a girl who was a professional model as well as a student at jmu. The problem is finding 12 cool cars. People aren't going to buy a calendar of regular sports cars and jeeps. Not knocking anyone's vehicles in the club, but there are little to no cars meeting magazine/calendar standards. Sully Wrote:This was an idea a year or so ago. It pretty much failed 100%. Also, no one was insulting your intelligence. It's the internet, it's how it works, or so I'm told. Just putting some of it into perspective and critiquing the idea (like anything posted on this forum). Like I said, next week at the meeting we'll have everyone come and pitch ideas for expansion/ whatever else. I'm not against doing a calendar and will gladly shoot photos of peoples cars to be put in. But outside of peoples who's car are inside of the calendar I just can't see a market or it being cost effective for us. Re: MM Car calender - *insertusernamehere* - 02-10-2014 Lmao. I was, quite literally, just waiting for Monday so one of you all could shoot that idea to the floor hahaha Re: MM Car calender - Sully - 02-10-2014 CaptainHenreh Wrote:I've been picking heavy things up and putting them down all weekend so I missed this thread but: ![]() Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk Re: MM Car calender - Senor_Taylor - 02-10-2014 No guys. This is the internet. Ass kissing only, please. Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk Re: MM Car calender - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-10-2014 I agree, it would be fun for the club to do as an "in club" type deal. DSMTuners did it a couple years in a row, and I liked them. (Justin and I were in them). Just because a car isnt a "$250k car with mods" doesnt mean it isnt calendar worthy. The Calendar would be for us, and I think is a great idea. Would love to have one in my office (sans girls).
