Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 09-30-2013 Weeell check control just said "fuck you lol" and kept flashing. I think it might be because there is a hole from the corrosion so its still picking up that gap? Does that make sense? It's only telling me i have a brake light failure. Grab some sandpaper (fine grit, none of this 80 grit bullshit) and rough up the metal where it's corroded. Remember, you have four rear brake lights - are you sure they are all working? Should be two outer that light up when the pedal is pressed, and two inner that are on more as "running lights." Otherwise, it *could* be your brake light switch starting to go bad, but that usually shows up as "Brake Light Circuit." Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 09-30-2013 Okay..wait..no hold up. I'm at work right now so i can't double check but i'm 97% sure my brake lights do the opposite... My inner squares light up when pressing the brake and the outer ones are always running... i'm pretty sure thats what i saw the other night. Also, any inspector won't really care if the dash light is on, so long as the actual brake light works right? That's all really care about, i can spend all semester trying to get the dash light off... Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - Jake - 09-30-2013 Er, yeah, maybe that's what happens. I don't know. I just know there's more bulbs than you might think. State safety inspection will not care what the OBC says. Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - premiershine9 - 10-01-2013 Clean! NICE pickup! Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 10-06-2013 Thanks Dan! Well lets see.. Cooling system: didn't get to it, no time ABS: Fail. This is really stressful. The bolt is just really rusted and seized and has no intentions of making my life easy. Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 10-09-2013 Tore that package open like a christmas present! SRS Light gone! Thank you, Joey! Now just for this damn stubborn ABS Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - SlimKlim - 10-09-2013 You can't post photos from your email account btw, download it to your desktop then upload it back to imgur.com. What's the rub with the ABS? You're just trying to clean the sensors? Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 10-09-2013 I'll do the pic thing later. Yup i wanna get the sensor out, clean it, if it gets the light off then hooray! If not, then I'll buy a new sensor. BUT, the bolt that holds the sensor in is stuck and rusted. I've used heat, lubrication, the usual but nothing. Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - SlimKlim - 10-09-2013 Gotcha, been there done that. If worst comes to worst get a new bolt then take it to a shop and see if you can pay them just to break it loose for you. Shouldn't break the bank and will save you endless hours rounding off the bolt with hand tools. Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 10-09-2013 Yeah thats my plan! I'm gonna hit up google in a sec and find simple place to pull it off. Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 10-30-2013 Inspection: Passed
Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - Jake - 10-30-2013  What else did you have to do to make it pass? Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 10-30-2013 Other than the ABS, nothing! Although, to be honest, I didn't actually do anything.. All last week the ABS light turned itself off and it started functioning correctly! I'm guessing all the tampering previously must've knocked it into its senses. I was worried the windows may have gotten me a rejection because they "glitch" on the way up randomly. The amount of times it'll glitch is also random. But basically you just need to keep pushing the button til it makes it all the way up. So either they did that and just passed it, or the window just didn't glitch that time. Either way I'm not complaining! I can drive her with peace of mind now
Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 12-31-2013 Christmas present my car left for me while I was on vacation<33
Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - Jake - 01-01-2014 Black Plastidip on the roof panel would be cheap and not look too awful, either. Mid-90s paint was... marginal. Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - *insertusernamehere* - 01-06-2014 ^For real though lol Thanks to Dj (and joey/jake) finally got the cooling system parts changed out! Thanks ALOT guys, big help! ...like you doing 90% of the work kind of help  The drive home was eventful. First I encountered too much damn deer! If you wanted to hunt deer, you wanted to be on 66 last night. Most unnerving moment was when 2/3 of this pack all perked their heads up at the same time and one started to run, but he ran to the bushes and not the road, phew, thick fog + rain didn't help either. Later on when I was a mile from the Hburg exit, the car sucked down all the coolant and temp got up a bit. So I let it cool off a little, refilled it and rebled it and took it the last mile home. I have to go back and make sure nothing is leaking and everything is tight. The really small hose above the upper radiator hose (the one connected to the expansion tank) was letting off lots of hot air/steam/tiny bubbles for some reason. The clamp looks like it has a weird shape/bend in it so I'm gonna straighten it out, reattach and see if that can stop it from leaking. Otherwise.. she's all good!
Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - SlimKlim - 01-06-2014 Weird, hopefully the clamp just needs to be tightened and/or the heater core was giving up its final air bubble. I had to test the Kia's brakes as I left DJs too, a little brown fox darted out into my lane when I was on Wiehle Ave, and just as I'm going into full emergency braking mode changes its mind and flies back into the woods. Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - Jake - 01-06-2014 Hey, very welcome. I didn't feel like I did much, but it was fun doing some wiring  It can take some driving and a few attempts to get the system fully bled. It's really a pain on the E36. Hopefully things will be good and you just had an air bubble as Joey said. Re: Montreal Blue 1996 BMW 328is - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-06-2014 Jake Wrote:Hey, very welcome. I didn't feel like I did much, but it was fun doing some wiring  Yeah, I got the call and was like, check your clamps and fill er up! If you are getting steam/bubbles, change the clamp, clamps are cheap! One reason I went to the euro cooling system setup on all my E36s almost immediately was the inanely stupid bleed procedure. I just prepare after 30 miles of driving to fill up the reservoir again even after bleeding on a stock E36. |
