I'm also not a fan of black on black, you lose so much detail.
I saw some OEM looking 5-spokes on an MKVI at Pei Wei the other day. I don't know what they were but I had a bit of a crisis over them, Lauren can verify.

How much do they weigh compared to OEM and compared to the Sparcos?
Lighter wheel = more better. When I got my E36 it had the stock DS1s that clocked in around 22lbs. I replaced them with TRM 17x9s that weighed ~17lbs and every aspect of the car's performance was improved, low end acceleration, turn in and braking. Then I graduated and moved to NOVA so I went for the VMR CSL reps that weigh ~23lbs, AND i installed long tube headers that decrease low end torque but increase top end horsepower.
Jesus effing Christ talk about a night and day difference. The car went from "smush-you-back-in-the-seat-from-2k-rpms" to "make-lots-of-noise-and-not-do-much-until-4k-then-all-hell-breaks-loose." My long term plan is to get a OBD-II midpipe that allegedly improves the powerband, and go back to a lighter 17in wheel.
Just something to keep in mind while you're shopping.
For what its worth, the GTI's powerband is the exact opposite of the BMWs. Mine with the stock tune gives you a wall of torque as soon as you hit boost at 2k, and then slopes off a little bit and meanders towards redline. The effect might be less noticeable with that power band, but still, less weight = more go.

Holy shiiiiiiit Detroits are 29lbs?!?! Fawk. I should've traded them for Goals instead of putting new rubber on them, I'd probably average 4mpg better and feel a hell of a lot more nimble in corners. Oh well.

I vote do nothing. Or keep searching, there has to be a set of decent, good looking wheels out there that are not 10k lbs. My 17x9.5s are 16.95lbs and are only $269 a wheel...

The RPF1s are 239/wheel and weigh 15lbs, my TRMs for the E36 were more than that I think.
If I had known how goddamn heavy the detriots were I would've traded someone for goals or classic Xs or something to shed a few pounds before buying new tires. Oh well, its just a commuter I suppose.

I have a co-worker who is looking to unload a set of O.Z. Ultraleggeras 18x8's +35MM. 12K miles on them, all summer. Negative is one has a slight crack, still holds air, he only noticed it once he took them off. He had a quote to have them repaired but since he sold his GTI he didn't care anymore. let me know if you're interested.

Im interested depending on the condition of the faces. Do you know how much he was quoted to have it repaired? And is he selling them with or without tires? Are they down here in Va or in LI by you? Let me know if you can get me some more info on them.

Theyre all pretty heavy but I dont think the VMRs or the Assetto Garas are THAT heavy for 18s. The problem is really my budget. I cant afford anything over $200 a wheels right now, or at least Im not prepared to drop that kind of money. Ive been throught that thread a few times but theyre all pretty expensive. The
Every so often a set of 17s come up on the MK6 forums that I like, but Ive been down here in VA all year so I couldn't scoop them up. Hopefully this summer Ill find a good deal on a used set.
