Actually think I may go with the Dewalt "20V" line. It's not actually 20V, but a marketing thing they said they had to do because it's a new battery design (sliding instead of inserting into handle) that allows them to change up their tool designs. Still 18V, but when they first called it "18V Max" people were getting confused by the incompatible batteries.
The old design isn't going anywhere, but I think I'd be more comfortable going with their latest design.
Oh and the "20V" is a 3Ah battery as opposed to 2.4

Instead of callling it 20V, they could do something USEFUL like quote the amp-hours. Call it the 3 series. :dunno: It could be a 318? :evileye:

It looks like the bare Milwaukee impact is $50 more than the Dewalt without a battery. Having used them back-to-back 3 weeks ago, the difference is pretty significant. If you don't need to bust rusted stuff loose, then I'm sure the Dewalt would be alright for you. The Milwaukee also felt better made and had better trigger action too. I guess it shouldn't be a big surprise that you get what you pay for with those tools.
I was using the Dewalt 18v and the Milwaukee 2663-20.

Birthday is in a week so I can't touch my wish list. Assuming I don't get anything DeWalt (don't think I will), I'll take a serious look at the Milwaukee lineup. The impact does seem to get amazing reviews. 300 v. 475 ft-lbs is a pretty significant difference.
Price difference is $10 on the bare tool (dewalt price went up $20). A single battery plus a charger is the same price... Sooooo.
I suppose I'll need to take a look at the costs of the other tools.

The Dewalt is rated at 175lb/ft less and it is noticeable. Edit: obviously we weren't testing the torque, but I was using them both on the same project on the same night.
His old 18V gun and a newer Milwaukee replacement.
This is what I used, but it looks like all of the DeWalt 18V stuff is rated the same.

also, the drill kit i was talking about comes up at Lowes/HD on sale every other week. traditionally it goes for $199... Drill, 2 18v batteries, and charger. but when its on sale, its $99.

The model that C&D tested is the little brother to the "big" impact. Not sure why they put that model up against the competition's "big guns."
