I had one of those... it was pimp! Pink and black graffiti all over it. You were the shit if you had a Walkman on the bus back in the day.

That sucks about the cracking... What don't you like about the touch?

I've never compiled a list, but here it goes:
1) I hate how long you have to hold the button on the top for the unit to turn off and on, and then you have to move the slider again to make it turn off
2) I hate hate hate the fact that you have to use ITunes in order to communicate with your computer
3) I hate the fact that you have to sort through songs by album after finding an artist. This leads into my next bit of hate....
4) I hate the fact that it reads ID3 tags. Hate hate hate. I had to alter my entire music library for one device
5) I hate how you can't rearrange playlists and delete individual songs, pictures or video on the actual Ipod, you have to do it on the computer
6) I hate how it automatically uploads everything from your pictures and songs on your PC unless you specifically tell it not to
7) I hate how there are a million submenus when listening to songs that you have to navigate through... when you play a song, it pulls up an entirely new page with a big music note on it that is completely pointless. So if you accidentally choose a song or if you decide after you play it you want to listen to another, you have to go back to the last screen. 1 screen showing all of my music, when and when they are not playing, is completely fine.
8 ) I hate how the back is chrome and scratches when you look at it. This is the least important of my problems with it.

There are a few others I've noticed as I've owned it but those are the big ones. I would freak out and smash my phone on the bar like I did to my old Razr if it was just like this thing.

Evan Wrote:has anyone here actually bought a 3g?

I have, only because I'm dumb and broke my original iPhone. It fell between the driver's seat and center console of mom's Crossfire. I got out and moved the (power) seat forward to get it and there was no phone... moved the seat back and fished it out:

Honestly, I think the iPhone is great, but if I hadn't destroyed mine I would not have upgraded. The 2.0 software added all the functionality, minus 3G data and legit GPS, so it's not worth it in my mind. If you don't have an iPhone, that's another story, but for existing users... eh, I dunno.

I have a white 16 GB, and no cracks on the casing. Nobody's come back in the store and complained or anything, and none of the store phones have any cracks, so hopefully it's not too widespread of a problem. If someone's phone does crack and they come and want a replacement, I'm sure they would get one. Just be nice - we see a lot of asshole-y people in the stores and if you're rude and screaming at the genii, managers, etc, we will be much less inclined to bend some rules and help you out.

1-yeah, i get that
2-only a problem if you're not on mac
3-I like itunes... :dunno: I guess you're not on a mac.
4-It reads ID3 tags? This is a problem?
5-Can any other ipod rearrange/delete on the ipod?
6-Auto sync is the easiest for people... just disable it (i still use it)
7-I can understand this one

I wouldn't get a touch. I'd just get a normal ipod. I like having hard controls on a music player so i don't have to look at it to switch songs.

- WRXtranceformed - 07-30-2008

JackoliciousLegs Wrote:4-It reads ID3 tags? This is a problem?
HUGE problem since I don't buy any of my mp3s. The ID3 tags that I've had on mp3s since college are erratic and 90% of the time incorrect. Also, I really could give a shit what album a song came from or what the album cover looks like even if I had correct ID3s.
Quote:5-Can any other ipod rearrange/delete on the ipod?
No idea, I've never owned another Ipod. I'd straight up trade this thing for an mp3 player that was more Windows friendly and had internet capability. That's the only redeeming quality of it in my mind.

1: Why not just hit the top button once real quick to 'sleep' the iPod?

2: What's wrong with iTunes? I see a lot of "OMG iTunes I hate it" but nobody explains why they hate it. I like it quite a bit compared to other music playing apps I've messed with.

3: There's an option for All Albums.

4: Like Jack, I don't see the problem here. So you don't buy your MP3s, do you rip em from CDs or hit up LimeWire? I do all three methods (iTunes Store, CDs, and LimeWire) and appreciate how it supports a tagging standard.

5: Agreed. On-The-Go playlists are about all you can do.

6: You can turn that off. Most people have less music than storage space on the iPod, so AutoFill is fine, in the sense of "oh, all my music is on the iPod."

7: The whole wasted space thing is an iPod Touch & iPhone thing. I like seeing my cover art, but at the same time, think the font for song name, etc, is way too small. At least if you have cover art you won't have to look at a big music note...

8: Yep.

- WRXtranceformed - 07-31-2008

If you download stuff on Limewire, then you should know how crappy the ID3 tags are on most of the songs you get. And since the Ipod reads your songs through the ID3 tags, you've got a bunch of them taht are like Ripp3d_bi_Kr0niK in the album title. And you also know how much it sucks to navigate through that garbage when they are gibberish or just plain wrong. Or when you have 4 songs by the same artist and each one is under a separate listing for that artist because the ID3 tags are incorrect.

ITunes complety reformatted my music folder. That's the biggest reason why I hate it, it took me two months of editing to get my songs renamed and reorganized. I am very anal when it comes to stuff like that and this made me want to punch an Apple developer in the face. It's also extremely slow and mucks up my computer, just like Quicktime or any other Apple software on a PC.

Lee, I never had any of those issues....

Perhaps you should have bought a more expensive MP3 player?

If I had bought an mp3 player myself I wouldn't have bought an Ipod. I got this as a gift :?

- Mike - 07-31-2008

what would you have gotten?

- WRXtranceformed - 07-31-2008

No clue. I didn't do any research when I wanted an mp3 player because I got one as a gift. I'd have to look around and see what's out now.

I can't tell you how many time I've had to figure out how to figure out how to get out of some infinite loop my wife got herself into or wouldn't "do what it's supposed to" in itunes. Yeah, yeah... user error and all that... well it shouldn't be that much of a PITA in the first place.

- ViPER1313 - 07-31-2008

Lee - you know you can remove ID3 tags from MP3s completely, right? There are also apps that will rewrite the ID3 tags based on file names.

Edit - but I still agree with you. ITunes is better that WMP but still sucks so hard it could pull a golf ball through a garden hose.

Examples:

-Import directory doesn't work correctly if there are playlist or .cue files in it IIRC.
-Even though you tell it not to load file information on load it still does (try loading 5000 ID3 tags when your music is on a wireless home network)
-Sync sucks. Just let me copy files to / from the IPod like I would an external HD.

Edit2 - foobar2000 fo life!

- .RJ - 07-31-2008

Also, you dont have to use iTunes for your ipod either.

- WRXtranceformed - 07-31-2008

I do know that you can edit and change ID3 tags. I know it very well because I had to do it to every single song file on my hard drive.

I don't use WMP at all. I've used the original skin Winamp for a long time and never had any problems. It's not the greatest program but it doesn't fuck with my playlists, it doesn't freeze up or slow down my computer and it's small and organized.
