I hope one day my life is so perfect that a ziploc bag in a BMW that isn't even mine rustles my jimmies this hard.

Until then, I'll keep getting bjs.

That's certainly a route to take, I did a lot of research on the APR tunes and the APR Plus tunes when I bought this car. The regular APR tune is $700 I think and offers the most power, and some people seem to get away with having work done at "mod friendly" dealers, but the guy at NGP told me about a customer that money shifted his car, then learned the dealer had "accidentally" plugged the car in during an oil change, flagging his warranty.

The APR Plus tune is $1100 and offers similar power and less torque than the JB4. You still need a nod & wink agreement with a dealership to do warranty work on it, and if you accidentally get flagged you'd have to take the car to NGP in Lorton for future warranty work because they're the closest APR dealer. I ultimately decided the $600 premium of the APR Plus tune wasn't worth it over the JB4 when I can uninstall the JB4 and waltz into any dealership, vs. needing to like, know a guy to keep bringing an APR plus car into a dealer. For my $1100, I want that shit in writing.

I mean, isn't it like the only car you've owned that didn't break?

Nah, gsx, hatchpile, jeep all solid

Just the FXT was a giant whore.

RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - SlimKlim - 05-08-2019

So since you're back into boost mods can we revive the coil cover from the GSX? Casey loved that right?

Oh, right. You broke Mike's heart with the hatchpile, not the actual car.

I thought the point of the APR plus was that it was warranty approved, like the dinan stuff.

That's the idea but it falls apart in the fine print of the warranty:

"2. Take Your Vehicle to a Licensed Repair Facility - If Your Vehicle breaks down, take it back to the dealer that you purchased APR Plus from. If this is not possible, take Your Vehicle to any Licensed Repair Facility (You may contact Us by calling 1-800-680-7921 for help in locating a Licensed Repair Facility). 3. Provide the Licensed Repair Facility or Us with a copy of Your Limited Warranty and/or Your Limited Warranty Number."

https://www.goaprplus.com/includes/doc/customer_warranty_booklet.pdf

The only "Licensed Repair Facility" in our area is NGP in Lorton. With Lindsay and Stohlman it's like the regular APR tunes, it all comes down to who you're actually working with in the service department as to whether or not they are willing to work on the car.

RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - Apoc - 05-08-2019

Isn't it a like-for-like warranty, not the actual factory warranty?

Correctamundo

Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JustinG - 05-08-2019

Talked to BMS and the case is safe unless submerged.

So no more ziploc, and I spent a little time to try and figure out the best spot and wire routing. This is what I got, just chillen under the cowl/brake reservoir cover.

You should thank us for busting your balls. It made you clean up that rats nest of wiring and you found out you don't need the Ziploc. Our work here is done for the day.

RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - ScottyB - 05-08-2019

that looks fine. if you get water up under there, you're already on the phone calling the wrecker to winch you out of a lake.

i want more b00st huffing, when do we get a video

Reflashes are still for poor people. Real boost addicts junk the OEM ECU, buy a standalone and fly in a renowned tuner to dyno and road tune.

Dang I cash burned on that car. Phil @ Element Tuning was a cool dude tho

RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - Steve85 - 05-08-2019

I keep coming in here for driving impressions or a part out. Could use more HP and some bumpers...

Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JustinG - 05-08-2019

You need f80 bumper Steve and you know it.

Well with summer coming up I snagged a hitch for Casey’s car and was gonna just do the same for mine.

After further research, one hitch requires you to hack up the muffler heat shield. The other appears to be a 50/50 shot on having to notch the bumper. Apparently its a whole don’t buy one made on a Monday kinda deal.

So instead of taking a chance I just went roof mount. Yakima High Road. Gonna hopefully give it a try this weekend and go ride Pocahantas state park.
