The worst manual transmission vehicles I've driven are more fun than the best automatics. This. How much does steering feel really affect daily driving? Give me manual or give me death. Project: Space Wagon - ViPER1313 - 01-24-2019 How does a manual transmission improve your average daily commute Taylor? You and RJ just need to admit you are masochistic and enjoy the pain of DDing a manual in NOVA traffic. Buying a car that performs well 5% of the time and makes you suffer the remaining 95% makes no sense. Project: Space Wagon - Sijray21 - 01-24-2019 DDing a manual really isn't all that bad. Sure, there may be situations where you're in constant stop and go, but for some that's not an issue for their daily commute (me included; stop and go is not common). Having a manual is about driving experience and if you prefer that over pure appliance and convinience then what's the problem? With RJ's situation he's really lucky because his wife knows how and enjoys driving a manual. RE: Project: Space Wagon - .RJ - 01-24-2019 I dont sit in DC traffic. It forces a lot of other compromises in my life but its better that way for me. Project: Space Wagon - Senor_Taylor - 01-24-2019 My commute is 4 minutes. The majority of my driving is when I'm driving out west or on the weekends. VW clutches are stupid light and don't really make your leg hurt. I've had a lot of opportunities to compare automatic and manual cars and I like the control and smoothness a manual offers. Sitting in traffic in an automatic sucks just as much because you're constantly having to keep pressure on the brake trying to fight the car from wanting to lurch forward. My opinion may be different with a Mustang or something with a heavy clutch, but considering driving is my favorite activity, I'd like the better form of the experience when I choose to do it. Maybe I'm not at that point in my life where I'm ready to be miserable on the weekdays waiting for when I can drive my fun car on the weekend. I'm sure RJ is the same way. Aggressive, but yes DSG master race is here. Its faster, never misses a shift, more efficient, no granny shifting double clutching blah blah. Its neat technology. I drove an F31 before I bought this thing and the ZF 8-speed is also a really good gearbox. RE: Project: Space Wagon - SlimKlim - 01-24-2019 It's not how fast she can go it's how smooth she makes the ride. Also shift farts. Don't forget the shift farts. Project: Space Wagon - ViPER1313 - 01-24-2019 My 1990s DSM doesn’t lose boost between shifts either [emoji847] More manufacturers should include no lift to shift from the factory. GM is leading the pack here. RE: Project: Space Wagon - *insertusernamehere* - 01-24-2019 What you *should* do is buy a 2013 Honda Fit and begin the swap on the wagon. The last person in MM who owned this Fit ended with a badass Audi and 1 million broken BMWs and the current owner is rather comfortable, there's a lot of good juju bottled up with this car. You oughta buy it, The Good Fortune Fit. Do it. I think, maybe, you're just unlucky. My wife drove a manual Saab 900 when I met her Then a manual Civic. Then a manual Mazda3. I like that Taylor positioned keeping your foot on the brake as a hardship. As if you don't have to do this with a manual. Also, we have Park. When I met her she was driving a base model 2004 ford focus with rust, interior panels falling/fallen off and no heat. It was every bit as shitty as you think it is but the thing always started and the gauges didnt go apeshit and put the car in limp mode, either. RE: Project: Space Wagon - Apoc - 01-24-2019 So the moral of the story is just drive newer cars? The moral of the story is always have at least one newer, reliable (preferably warrantied) car if you insist on owning out-of-warranty german bullshit. |
