That's odd. In the Cville Advance Autos, if they don't have something, they usually just search other stores nearby, put in the order and its there by 7am the next morning. Its not like I'm that far from Harrisonburg or Lynchburg.

Strange.

Re: The Blue Phoenix - E46 325i - *insertusernamehere* - 05-12-2016

Oh no yeah you right. That's normal. But we typically don't have it stocked in the store. That being said 3 of the options for Taylor's car were from out of advance. Meaning they'd take like a week to get here.

Most shops I've been in use WorldPac and/or something similar where "overnighting" is the standard level of service. Place your order at 4:30 and get the parts around 9 the next morning, so you can diagnose & repair the car in a 2 day window without having to stock everything under the sun.

Damn. If we order from worldpac you're not seeing that part til 4 days later.

Yeah that is my understanding of the term "overnight" when it comes to shops order parts. It's not like you are paying extra for that service. Just standard operating procedure.

It's a BMW, all he needs to do is refill the blinker fluid and all will be fixed.

I'm sorry, the fluid for what?

Yeah, y'all don't realize this shop is in a town with a population less than 2500.

Anyway, he said the actual shoes and everything snapped or something. I really don't care. Everything is swell and now the parking brake works (Which it hasn't worked properly since when Chan had it). The car is right as rain now.

They only charged $180 for the parts for a complete hardware refresh. The other $80 was for the diagnosis. I don't think it's that bad.

Re: The Blue Phoenix - E46 325i - *insertusernamehere* - 05-12-2016

Yeah that's not bad at all. Onward to the sale!!

Re: The Blue Phoenix - E46 325i - Senor_Taylor - 05-12-2016

HAHAHAHAHAHAH. I texted the guy to let him know I could make it up earlier tomorrow and he said he found another car. Swell.

rip

Re: The Blue Phoenix - E46 325i - Jake - 05-12-2016

You're going to end up keeping the damn thing and your hateful love for it will grow.

Re: The Blue Phoenix - E46 325i - *insertusernamehere* - 05-13-2016

That's what I said^^

Where the hell did you take the thing? I thought you were in Lynchburg...

I say Lynchburg because my town is so small that it's not on a lot of maps. I'm a good 15-20 minutes from Lynchburg City Limits. The only shop that would touch a BMW would be like a $100+ tow bill.

Re: The Blue Phoenix - E46 325i - Senor_Taylor - 05-25-2016

Okay, I 100% blame Jake for all of this. I rode with him around VIR in a E46 328i and damn if it wasn't fun.

What is needed for me to hyperdrive this? I plan on getting the CCV done if this car doesn't sell soon, but I might not if the oil consumption keeps going the way it is. I don't know what Chan was putting in the car (he told me, but I forgot) but I put the exact stuff that BMW recommends and the oil consumption seems to have slowed quite a bit, but I won't be able to tell for sure until I get this thing past 1000 miles since I changed the oil.

I know I'd want to get the wheels balanced to see if the vibration above 70 MPH goes away, and probably get it in the air to check the suspension for anything bent and such to see what is causing the pull to the right. I might take it back to Firestone and get them to re-align it and see what happens. They'll do it for free since it's been only like 2 months since I got it aligned, right? If that doesn't fix, it's probably a stuck caliper, or at least I hope it is.

I've been thinking I can spend ~$150 and get a hitch on my Tacoma, then rent a U-haul trailer for like $50 a weekend and not risk anything if the water pump decides to go belly up on me or something. Then again, pulling a car with my very under powered Taco with no trailer brakes might not be a great idea.

If nothing else, this car will be at Danville Airport for the BRR SCCA autocross in June.

This is all in the case that someone doesn't show up tomorrow with what I'm asking for the E46. If they do, you best believe I'm buying a Civic and tracking the shit out of it.

No. STAPH. The Tacoma was not designed to tow as you're intending. With a truck that light and no trailer brakes it's just a disaster waiting to happen. Not to mention, running through Uhaul's towing wizard it, it suggests none of their towing options are recommended for your truck.

Yeah, terrible idea. Do not tow with the Tacoma. U-haul's trailers supposedly have surge brakes, but they are horrible, add in the weight of the BMW, the heavy U-haul trailer and the short wheel base of the Tacoma is a disaster waiting to happen. A hyperdrive shouldn't hurt your car, if you are that worried about it, do not do the hyperdrive.

Re: The Blue Phoenix - E46 325i - rherold9 - 05-25-2016

I wasn't joking when I said just buy a Honda if you want something cheap, you can DD, low maintenance, and then also drive on track. Be a good temporary fix to your needs.

Unrelated note. How would my truck fair towing a Miata? That plus a trailer would be at least 1500 under the tow capacity for my truck.
