Man will you Jabronis let the Aluminum Shiek over there do what he wants? Damn.

Kaan Wrote:I'm seeing 240+ in the engine bay, specifically the frame rail between the header and radiator. the frame rail I hit with the infrared was at least 6 inches away from the radiator and 10 inches from the header. the header is already wrapped. that seems like WAY too much to me. this coupled with my 260 degree oil temps make me feel I need to try to evacuate the air in the engine bay.
So what was your procedure then? Is that run a session, come back to paddock, shut off car, and measure? While it's 10" away, that's 10" away from a 500 deg thing, with little moving air for a couple minutes as you pull in, so it doesn't strike me as alarming. Could be totally different when at speed. And obviously I'm no Honda guy, but 260 deg oil temp isn't outside of normal either. Can you run a session without a hood to compare?
And put a damn factory undertray back in before being worried about front end turbulence, you've tossed aero right out the window anyway!
Well you got me thinking about it now so the Miata already has two dataloggers strapped in for the ride home. Tongue

Kaan Wrote:that's actually not the goal. go pick up subscription to racecar engineering and read up for the next 5 years.

Shit I know how to engineer. I cut springs once. Felt like I was on rails and handled like a Ferrari, but what do I know?

All I see is

Hey now that was rude. Don't make me pass you on the track even more.

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Jake - 07-07-2015

I'm with Channing... put an undertray on it first, and help direct air where it should go! Doing that on my M3 (which came to me sans-undertray) kept temps 10* F cooler on track, just because more air got routed through the radiator (my aftermarket tray has a baffle on it) and otherwise directed through the engine bay.

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 07-07-2015

even the ebay doesn't have an old under tray for my turd.

it would be easier to buy a flat lip and build an under tray off that Undecided

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Mike - 07-07-2015

"seems" hot? what's your basis? yeah, that is pretty hot if you were trying to sleep in there. i recall plenty of integras running much wilder motors not having rice-assed hood vents installed. why is your car any different with far fewer hp?

do less.

that's the phrase... the current group all vent, the old schoolers didn't

I've read every single build thread and turds, every single article I can get my hands on... lower engine bay temps are better.

Jesus tapdancing christ.

NONE of you are engineers, not even racers, not even first-hand experience with this shit and all proclaiming all the knowledge.

Stop overthinking and remember the 80/20 rule. Only way to know for sure is to test it yourself (and proven several "common" aero modifications to be complete bupkis while other "useless ones" to have actually helped). Oh yeah, I have actual data to prove it instead of "my buttdyno helped".

so you said some stuff, but i'm not sure it made much sense. are you for or against kaan pepboying his car?

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - rherold9 - 07-07-2015

Big Grin

Holy shit people taking my trolling serious?

Who cares what he does. Does it need to be scientifically proven? It's two small damn vents that gives him the peace of mind and if he wants to do it go ahead.

I am not an engineer. Try it...why not :dunno: That he bought vents before properly undertraying or ducting does confuse me.

My uneducated guess is that without ducting and without any undertray, he is more likely to just cause turbulence. Ducting and those undertrays actually increase pressure in the engine bay as it increases pressure on the front of the radiator.

The vent is mostly to reduce underhood pressures by providing a low-pressure zone relief behind the front leading edge of the hood. If there isnt much pressure there anyway since everything is flowing around the radiator/underneath the car/everywhere, the vent won't nearly be as effective, or will be completely useless and add drag.
