Stupid name though the LEVORG - I always see Les Orgy

Although it would probably only be offered with the CVT trans on a GT version.

It looks like when I decide to replace the Fozzy I am gonna have to go german......
I hate you for making me aware this exists

We'll never see a LEVORG here, and even in Japanland it's CVT only.

Write Subaru off for your wagon needs. Bigass hole in the market if you ask me, that no one seems to want to fill. I don't understand Subaru but maybe Evan is right and it's just that "Americans Don't Get It".

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Evan - 06-24-2014

Its a bad sign that Mazda, a scrappy automaker looking for marketshare and niches to fill, has a global product line, doesnt have a midsize suv/family peoplemover, and STILL decided not to bring their midsize 6 wagon over to the states.

And since Subaru is now trying to be "Toyota with AWD" there is no chance in hell they would build a wagon here.

I wonder how hard/expensive would it be to turn an outback into a legacy wagon? probably more than its worth.

Evan Wrote:I wonder how hard/expensive would it be to turn an outback into a legacy wagon? probably more than its worth.

Probably not hard, people did it with the previous Gens. Legacy struts/springs bolt right up giving you the Legacy ride height. color match the flares/doorguards if needed. Pretty much have a Legacy wagon.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Sully - 06-24-2014

I plan to do it with an '05 outback XT. The newer gens have a lot of that plastic crap is the only thing. You can color match it but it's still a little weird looking.

Legacy gt has bigger brakes in 05 though so I have to upgrade those to legacy spec for the complete make over. I'd rather have the outback because I like the big fogs in the bumper and I want the flares so I can stuff some wide tires under them.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Jake - 06-25-2014

I still can't get over how awful the front-end of the current Outbacks are. And it's a shame, because they drive pretty well. Mom has a 2011 with the 3.6R and it's quick. But man, not much of a looker.

just guessing.

Also there is no Passat wagon in the current US line up.

*Ding Ding*

Our public perception of wagons is that they are a sad compromise, and if you drive one you're obviously poor or just plain boring. Put that same wagon on stilts and now you're All-That-Is-Man because you could take your wagon-UV thing camping or something. You won't. But you look like you might, and that's all that matters to most 'muricans.

Cadillac bleeding off senior execs amid tepid sales:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.autoblog.com/2014/06/20/cadillac-sales-chief-peffer-resigns-amidst-slow-sales/">http://www.autoblog.com/2014/06/20/cadi ... low-sales/</a><!-- m -->

There is some interesting banter back and forth on this on the Cadillac forums: HERE. I didn't realize sales of the ATS had slowed down that much. The new CTS sounds like it was basically a complete flop, which makes sense. I have seen one on the road down here since they were released and this area is notorious for cashburning. I see way more Audis, BMWs, Mercs and even Jags with 30 day tags than I do Cadillacs lately.

I think soccer moms are as big part of the problem. They won't buy a wagon because they don't like the image but they'll buy a compact SUV with worse handling, worse braking, worse gas mileage, and is more prone to rolling over.

To be fair though, 9 times out of 10 when a company brings a cool wagon they don't bring a manual or even a DCT so people like us are out of the running. Of course people like us say we'll buy all kinds of stuff but a lot of times we don't actually buy them.

I'm not holding my breath for a cool wagon, but there's hope for cool 5 door hatches.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 06-25-2014

I think Ford would be silly to not cook up a "Focus RS" to compete directly with the new Golf R. ~320hp, Part-time AWD, 6 speed and stiff suspension all in a fairly practical 5-door package for a few grand less than the ~$40k VW. Ford has already found that their market for the ST is fairly wealthy and a bit older. I think the average income of ST buyers is like $120-130k.

They just need to dial back the "style" of the thing a little bit so it can live up to its practicality potential. Like the enormous interior space totally wasted by the triangular dash that juts all the way out into your knee-space. Or the hatch opening that's considerably more narrow than the actual cargo area, so you can't take full advantage of it.

SlimKlim Wrote:I think the average income of ST buyers is like $120-130k.

I had to look this up because I was Confusedhock: Average household income is $127k. Didn't think anyone single making that much would be buying an ST. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2013/11/07/focus-st-bringing-new-and-younger-buyers-to-ford-brand.html">https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedi ... brand.html</a><!-- m -->

Re: Automotive News Discussion - *insertusernamehere* - 06-25-2014

That is unexpected indeed. I'd think they would even go with the Mustang over the ST. They're gonna reveal the remodel for the 2015 Focus ST soon. I'm excited.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 06-25-2014

Only 32% are under 35 years old too.

I think the car industry consistently miscalculates the age of "young" car buyers and what types of cars they want.

The Scion brand was introduced to attract 1st time buyers into the Toyota ecosystem. What happened? My 45 year old mom bought one.

The Kia Soul was supposed to be for college-aged dancing hamsters and they sold so many of them to 40-50 year old women that they made the 2nd generation much more upscale so you can pay $27k for a box on wheels dripping with technology and wrapped in leather.

Looking at the ST you'd think it was intended directly for spoiled high school and college students (and judging by the NOVA car meets, they weren't actually too far off) but there are only so many rich parents out their looking to spoil their brats with a $30,000 pocket rocket. Instead they're getting the older guys who have enough to spend for a brand new sporty car but the memory of the recession is still too fresh to commit 60%+ of their income to an S4 or M3. They're attracting the same kind of people that have been buying the GTI for years, half the time I see someone in another GTI it's a white-collar-type in his late 40s or 50s.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - *insertusernamehere* - 06-25-2014

And now that I'm thinking about it...

I was thinking how I initially assumed the youthfulness of the ST would be a detractor for an older crowd but maybe that's exactly what some of them like? Some old(er) people don't actually like to feel old. My grandma wants an FR-S, true story. :dunno:

Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 06-25-2014

An AWD Focus RS would make a ton of sense but to date Ford hasn't made an AWD performance car like that since they made the Escort RS Cosworth. I'm not convinced Ford is going to make such a car. It's a shame because they could easily steal jilted STi customers.

Other than that, pretty much everything is custom for each build.

Dodge Hellcat Challenger to have 700 hp, not the measily 600 we thought before. Confusedhock:
