Cars that get you all hot and bothered - JPolen01 - 07-28-2019 Oh wow. Haven't seen that done in a 997. Thanks, I hate it. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk RE: Cars that get you all hot and bothered - JPolen01 - 07-30-2019 I have no idea what that statement means. Cars that get you all hot and bothered - Senor_Taylor - 07-30-2019 I don't see how this is anything but an improvement. Not even a different power level, or even a different size, just change the cylinder arrangement...you'd lose an entire generation of enthusiasts. the effect is exacerbated with any kind of niche car especially. those kinds of things develop a very particular fanbase. Yes I frequently purchase vehicles to record the horsepower figure and then immediately discard the engine. RE: Cars that get you all hot and bothered - Apoc - 07-30-2019 I think he means most people who buy a Porsche don't actually use it. You know, like me. To be fair, the message boards basically did riot when they changed to the V8 and then to a boosted I6, but then they shut up and bought them anyway, which would happen if it started coming with a V6 (and AWD, why not). Cars that get you all hot and bothered - Senor_Taylor - 07-30-2019 My point was, if the LS makes the same power as the original motor and is worlds more reliable, I don't think it's too blasphemous. I'm not on the "LS SWAP EVERYTHING" wagon though. I can see how people want that specific experience with the flat six, but I was under the impression that the percentage of people that buy a 911 for the engine itself or even just know the engine code was much lower than people that buy an M3 for the specific motor that's in it or similar. However, these are just my suspicious and I'm probably wrong. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk RE: Cars that get you all hot and bothered - SlimKlim - 07-30-2019 My anecdotal perception is that a randomly selected M3/M4 owner would be more likely to misidentify the engine configuration they own than a randomly selected Porsche owner. Might have something to do with the relatively high number of jabronis I see brapping up and down 28 in leased M4s. Cars that get you all hot and bothered - Senor_Taylor - 07-30-2019 The people have spoken, no LS motors in Porsches. Justin to the thunderdrome, paging Justin to the thunderdrome a young man claims there's something worse than an EJ25, i repeat, claims are being made RE: Cars that get you all hot and bothered - CaptainHenreh - 07-31-2019 (07-31-2019, 11:39 AM)ScottyB Wrote:(07-30-2019, 05:14 PM)D_Eclipse9916 Wrote: Worst motor ever. *sucks teeth* I'm gonna have to side with DJ on this one. The EJ25 has its issues, but those issues are, for lack of a better word, cultural. The factory tune really does damage the engine, which is not the engine's fault. plastic gears on your V8's individual throttle bodies (when metal has worked just fantastic for like 100 years) are just a shit-ass design decision, period. Plastic on your $400 a piece (two) actuator, worse rod bearings than an s54, main bearings like to go as well; and zero fucking torque with atrocious gas mileage. I would buy a gt350 9 out of 10 times over an e92 RE: Cars that get you all hot and bothered - ScottyB - 07-31-2019 CaptainHenreh Wrote:*sucks teeth* I'm gonna have to side with DJ on this one. i, ah...i'm gonna have to disagree with you there. ![]() its a bad engine dumb plastic gears, yeah. disposable rod bearings because they engineered them too thin, also a less than optimal feature. but nah, i'm saying its not worse than a turbo EJ time bomb. they doubled the horspers on a commuter engine that was never intended for boost and then gave it a self destructing engine tune. make it out of warranty with that, and best of luck with cracking oil pickup tubes, spun rod bearings, piston slap, head gaskets on the N/A's, and clogged turbo oil screens. i liked my EJ pretty good too. it wasn't a great engine, and i had to throw money at it to make it last but it put up with a lot and had a lot left to go when it was punted. |
