Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - WRXtranceformed - 09-21-2016 Yeah the Seiko auto movements are tried and true. They can go a long time without service. My SKX007 though could probably stand for a service and regulation after a few years but when it's worn regularly it's about +/- 8-10 seconds per day. Not as accurate as a high quality Swiss auto movement but fine enough for daily wear. I love the sweeping seconds hand as well. The only weird thing about a lot of Seiko autos is that they are hard to keep on a winder. It took me a while to get mine dialed in and even then it makes the watch run a little fast. For the "Kinetic" movements I don't think you are actually supposed to keep those on a winder. I absolutely love every Seiko I have owned though, they are a lot of value for the money and they have a somewhat cult following. Look up "Grand Seiko" to learn about some really crazy people that spend Rolex money on Seiko's top of the line watches. TLDR: Japanese movements are tried and true and very durable, Swiss autos are the cream of the crop, very accurate and require a bit more maintenance. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Ryan T - 09-24-2016 So my Tissot came in the other day. In addition to that watch, I went ahead and purchased myself a casual watch, a Citizen Eco-Drive Chronograph. I plan on picking up a Seiko Automatic in the next week or so and then re-evaluate what other watches I want. I've also got two other watches, an older Elgin that I never wear and a Pulsar my wife bought me a few years ago that used to get all of my casual wear. ![]() I really like that the top right side shows you military time. Everything that we do at work is recorded in military time and it's handy to just glance at your watch rather than have to spend 3 seconds thinking about it. It will take some getting used to having the second hand not move, but hopefully it is easy to get used too.
Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Jake - 09-26-2016 I like that military time feature, pretty cool. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - WRXtranceformed - 09-30-2016 Tissot sale event going on right now at Jomashop Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 10-01-2016 Ooooo ooooo. A watch is the absolute last thing I need to buy right now. http://www.jomashop.com/tissot-mens-wat ... 06700.html Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - WRXtranceformed - 10-08-2016 Jomadeals daily "affordable" deal is actually a nice looking Seiko. It's not solar so you'd have to swap out the battery eventually, but for $72.00 that's a great looking watch: http://www.jomadeals.com/ And if you're a big baller, that's probably one of the best deals you'll ever see for a brand new, grey market IWC: http://www.jomadeals.com/luxury Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - SlimKlim - 10-19-2016 So this is the angle Lee's been working with all his watches. https://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/expensive-watches-command-respect-what-happened-when-i-tested-that Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - G.Irish - 10-19-2016 BRB, buying a Breitling. Gotta look the part to get that CTO position  Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 10-19-2016 I've always wanted a Brietling. Now I have a reason. Now I have a reason. but... you don't match the criteria he said they're useful for. i still think they're stupid. the kind of people who take notice of a watch and treat you differently because of it are not people i give two shits about. like the jewelry store wench? 100% chance she's hot, but a total bitch and you know it.
Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - WRXtranceformed - 10-19-2016  as Biggie said: if you don't know, now you know :p Also have had a few Breitlings on the list for a while, they carry a lot of wrist presence and have good history. Mikey, I don't believe it's a necessary evil in some industries, but it definitely doesn't hurt your cause when you rub elbows with the people who own the people who manage the people who cut your pay checks. I have worked in some of those industries and personally never felt the need to buy really expensive watches to show my net worth or act like I'm on the "same level" as someone. I just happened to have grown a passion for watches and have sparked up a lot of conversations with clients and strangers about them. I still happily play in the little boy watch world though because I'd rather do things with disposable income like you know, fund a friend's mission work in Thailand than prove to someone I can drop a small car value on my wrist. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - WRXtranceformed - 10-19-2016 I would also agree that it's dumb that people treat you differently because of the watch you wear, but that's life man, that's how most really rich people are. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 10-19-2016 Mike Wrote:Apoc Wrote:I've always wanted a Brietling. Now I have a reason. The article is a thinly veiled ad for the watch rental company, so I'm not sure his statement really holds. Besides, we're all in the world top 1% because the cutoff is like $35k! I'm not trying to date the jewelry store wench... but I ain't gonna complain if she wants to talk to me. If you really don't care how people perceive you, why don't you just walk around in sweatpants all day? Why attempt to pull yourself together and look decent? A watch really isn't any different. WRXtranceformed Wrote:I would also agree that it's dumb that people treat you differently because of the watch you wear, but that's life man, that's how most really rich people are. Really rich people? How about everyone. We all treat hot girls differently than ugly girls, no matter what you say. Watches are like makeup for heinous dudes like me. I've had more than one conversation start because of the watch I'm wearing. I work in law enforcement, a civil servant, so lord knows I'm not trying to impress anyone with my attire. I'm either in tac pants and a t-shirt or in a suit where I'm guaranteed to be out dressed by high paid attorneys. I like how these watches look on my wrist and how they make me feel about myself. They haven't sparked any real conversations, except for the Tissot when a coworker who is into jewelry mentioned it. I'm not after attention, I'm just at that point where I don't care to spend a little coin to get something that makes me happy. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - G.Irish - 10-20-2016 I bought this for myself a few months ago, just haven't gotten around to posting: It's a Citizen Blue Angels Skyhawk chronograph. Solar-powered and can sync time via radio signal. The bezel actual has real aeronautical measurements to calculate travel times based on air speed in knots. I bought this watch because it reminds me of one of my fondest childhood memories of watching the Blue Angels in Hawaii when I was 5 or 6 years old.
