Ken Wrote:Trying to get a watch for my brother as a Best Man gift. He currently owns an Omega Moonwatch and Rolex submariner, so not matter what I'm not exactly going to be impressing him. Any suggestions? Trying to keep this in the $300ish range - thought also of a Graf Zeppelin.
I second both suggestions above as well as the orient, Joey loves his! At your price point I would also throw out there:
- Citizen (my wedding day watch, that also happens to be on sale right now: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.jomashop.com/citizen-perpetual-calendar-bl5400-52a.html">https://www.jomashop.com/citizen-perpet ... 0-52a.html</a><!-- m -->)
(The other awesome iconic citizen i bought recently: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.jomashop.com/citizen-bj7000-52e.html">https://www.jomashop.com/citizen-bj7000-52e.html</a><!-- m -->)
- Victorinox
- GShock (for something different?)
- Some nice Hamilton's in that range
- And of course Seiko (you can't go wrong with the SKX, another iconic piece that a lot of high end watch owners also enjoy: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-mens-watch-skx007k2.html">https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-mens-watch-skx007k2.html</a><!-- m -->

Or i think this is the one Ryan just bought: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-watch-snzf15.html">https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-watch-snzf15.html</a><!-- m -->)

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - JustinG - 07-18-2017

Would anyone be interested in my Black 42mm Moto 360 v2?

Has Wear 2.0 installed.

Thinking $200 with factory black metal band, a silicon band, a couple of NATO's, and a brown leather band.

Has some small imperfections but nothing crazy.

Edit: looked like the go for $150 ish recurved.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - JustinG - 07-18-2017

Just posted it on SWAPPA for $185. MM price $150

What are you replacing it with?!

I have an LG watch Sport already. But proceeds from this sale will likely go to a Nixon Mission.

The consolidation continues as I work toward my grail:

Fo sale!

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - WRXtranceformed - 08-07-2017

Daynight Diver is sold, had some bites on the Steinhart but expect that to be sold within the next week or so

The wife and I were up in Asheville this weekend at a local watch shop that happens to be a Seiko dealer. I got my hands on the SRP775 that I was debating on as a second project in the interim before the GMT Master and it was bigger than expected and the gold didn't pop like I expected. I wasn't as wowed by it in person as I was by the idea of it from pictures so I'm really glad I got the chance to do so. It's a nice watch but it's definitely not worth sidelining my grail goal for. So I'm firmly in the "save for my grail" camp now Smile

Side note: I also got the chance to handle a preowned Grand Seiko spring drive. While the decorated movement was really beautiful, overall the watch was really not impressive to me at that price point. I should probably withhold judgment until I get my hands on another model but my initial impressions are that GS pieces are way overhyped by Seiko fanboys (I consider myself one of them) and are absolutely not worth paying Rolex money for.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - JustinG - 08-07-2017

My biggest complaint with wearing a "Smart" watch, is so many lack legitimate waterproofing. I miss the ruggedness of my gshock, and being 100% remote I don't have a huge need for a fancy watch.

Those that have legit waterproofing look like a Fitbit/rubber bracelet, or you have the Series 2 Apple watch.

So, I sold my first watch, the Moto 360 v2 and was in search of a "rugged" smart watch. Which pretty much left me 2 options, the Casio WSD-F20, which is a freaking tank of a watch. I don't like the looks, and I didn't wanna spend that kind of coin.

<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/casio-wsd-f20">www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/casio-wsd-f20</a><!-- w -->

So next option is the Nixon Mission. 10atm, 100m waterproofing and GPS. IMO a very nice looking watch. It is geared towards Ski/Snowboarding/Surfing, so it has some watch faces that highlight rides and snow levels which I'd never use.

Looking at the watch on Amazon I checked their Warehouse deals. Most stated screen scratches or case damage, but I ran across some that just stated packaging damage, but we're still the same price as the ones with watch damage. So, I took the chance, and it arrived Saturday.

That watch itself is perfect. Only damage to the package I saw was the Paracord that normally holds the zippers on the case together was no longer present.

I'm really happy with it.

To give it the 10ATM waterproofing, it has a latching cover over the Mic.

Red = splashproof, Black = Waterproof

Any way I love it. May end up selling my LG Watch Sport and have this as my only smart watch. I'd lose Heartrate (questionable accuracy), Cell/Sim capability (has horrible compatibility with Verizon) and NFC ( only used Android pay twice with my watch since purchase).

But, wanna get a NATO for it, and a hefty Black metal band, I also like the cool colors offered on the silicone bands straight from Nixon.

It is apparently 23mm, and most places only stock 22 and 24, so open to recommendations on where to find a 23mm band.

Some have just done 22mm and dealt with the .5mm gap on each side.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Apoc - 08-07-2017

That thing is actually thicker than your finger. There's no way I could wear that.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - JustinG - 08-07-2017

It's beefy, but no thicker than my gshock.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - JPolen01 - 08-07-2017

yeah god damn that thing looks massive. iWatch Series 2 wass the easy button answer. Do you get text/calls, etc to the watch?

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - JustinG - 08-07-2017

Works like any other Android Wear watch.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - WRXtranceformed - 08-07-2017

Nice! I didn't even realize Nixon made a smart watch, looks very stealth! It definitely looks big but if you're used to wearing a G-Shock or Protrek that should wear very similarly and is fine.

23mm is an oddball strap size, but check out Miltat they've got a bunch of different options: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://test1.miltat.com/size/23mm.html">http://test1.miltat.com/size/23mm.html</a><!-- m -->

High quality stuff there! I think joey got one of their bracelets for his Orient

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - SlimKlim - 08-07-2017

Yeah I have the 22mm "Endmill" from them (usually called a "President's" style bracelet). Bought it because it was the only one I could find with a curved endlink that fits the Orient case and looks OEM. They also make a Super Oyster (Rolex) style, but it was out of stock when I was looking. That one briefly came back in stock after I bought mine and I thought about snagging a second one, now it looks both styles are out of stock. I guess they sell 'em faster than they can make them. They are the only people making aftermarket curved endlinks for the Orient Ray, Mako and USA so I guess it makes sense they'd be in pretty high demand, even though it's such a niche market.

Anyway. 10/10, will almost certainly buy from them again. It sounds stupid but upgrading the bracelet/strap makes a massive improvement in the overall feel of the watch, especially when you're talking about metal. The OEM one rattled a little because of the hollow end links and the inner edge was sharp and would dig slightly into your wrist and tug on hairs. The aftermarket one makes it super comfortable despite the fact that it could double as a projectile weapon in a pinch.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - WRXtranceformed - 08-07-2017

There is nothing like a good aftermarket bracelet to finish off a nice watch. The Uncle Seiko bracelet has been MONEY for me and I got a comment on my Yobokies BoR/Dagaz Aurora combo this morning in a business meeting!

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - JustinG - 08-07-2017

So took the digital caliper to the watch and it measures as a 22.7mm band, so unless all 23mm bands measure slightly smaller a true 23mm wont work. Looks like ill either have to stick with bands from Nixon, or just deal with a .35mm gap on each side of a 22mm band.

I think I am gonna order a 22mm NATO on Clock Work Synergy, and see how it looks and then figure out a metal bracelet.

You could probably squeeze a 23mm leather or NATO on there no problem, a metal bracelet might be tricky I'm not sure. You would be safe with a 22mm either way!

Is that a measurement of the width between the lugs or the width of the band? If it's the measurement of the band make sure it's right up where it meets the lug because most bands get slightly more narrow as they go towards the back of the wrist. 0.3mm could also just be the tolerance you get to work with when fitting the band, the endlinks of the strapcode bracelet on my diver are very snug but you can still wiggle the end link between the lugs ever so slightly, if there was no play you'd never be able to install it.

That '66 Seiko I restored has a width between the lugs of 18.9mm, I have a tan 18mm strap and while you can see the spring pins on either side it's not terribly noticeable, I can also squeeze a leather 19mm on there without tearing up the corners of the band if I slip it in there just right.
