Everything went smoothly and took little to no time except I did not realize I'd need to use the oem top hats, mounting pieces, whatever you want to call them on the rear shocks. Multi-link suspension rear, MacPherson for the front. My D2 coilovers came with top mounting pieces, but these GC's did not so I guess they expect you to use the OEM ones. So, I have the fronts in and got the height perfect the first time. Rears I just had to put the D2's back on. Yeah I know, 2 different suspensions oh well for the time being. I won't be driving much and not too worried as the front rates are 6 and the rears are 4.7 with the D2's. I can do the rears in an hour or two by myself once I get the OEM ones from my parents. Anywho, I can see why people like them. Fronts already feel awesome. They just soak up bumps way better. They just feel right compared to the D2's. Oh I can for sure see why people have coil bind issues on hard bumps the spring is damn short. Up in the air the spring does not seat 100% snug between the bottom perch and the top hat (had me lossed for a bit and scared, but the way the Koni's are valved I guess it would take a lot for them to reach that big of a droop I'd have to get a lot of air). 7inches is not really long enough (haha..), but I did not have any issues over some bigger bumps so they must be hitting some nasty bumps if they are having issues. Also, ABS light came on and went off last night after a few seconds after start-up. Tonight it has stayed on the entire time. Fluid was right below minimum. Added some fluid. Light still on. Waiting a few days and if the light stays on I'll unplug the battery and let it reset. Still comes on after that I'll buy a sensor and plug it in and see which front side is going bad. Wires looked fine when we were working on so I'm kind of lost. Brakes look fine too. Haven't tried an abs stop and don't want to lol. Skid city. Will be getting the summer wheels dipped in the next few weeks by Scott Stone since he is a nice guy with a plasti-dip gun. Also, will be going to Kaan's sometime to get the OEM BBK on and work on his integra so he can have it done by April Summit event. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Jake - 03-15-2015 Try cleaning your wheel speed sensors to rid yourself of that ABS light. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-15-2015 Jake Wrote:Try cleaning your wheel speed sensors to rid yourself of that ABS light.Yeah that's what I thought, but they appear to look fine. Any specific fluid and care I should use? Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-21-2015 Okay, so I think I found that it is the right side speed sensor going bad or needs cleaning. Basically if I'm turning and put 1/2-3/4 of braking power it makes the ABS sound like when you are trying to stop on ice. That like crunching sound. Ouch. Braking is fine in a straight line. And left side is deal fine as well. So, I'll have to take a look at this next Saturday as my week seems like I'll have no time. I'll have to test fit my wheels too to make sure they'll fit with the GCs or I may have to buy a 5mm spacer. Finally, I drove up to MD on just the 6k front GCs. Oh lawd I'm staying with this setup for awhile. I actually enjoy driving the car now. The D2s were garbage ride. I had no coil-bind issues at all car felt stable and no bump steer over harsher bumps at speed. These Yellows are very digressive at the end point which is perfect. I'm just very impressed by them. They are agressive yet soft if that makes sense. My rear OE top shock mounts are to be delivered Monday. But, I don't think I'll be able to touch the car until the weekend. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Kaan - 03-23-2015 this is a mazda3... do you think he has speed sensor issues? I'm sure he figured out how to get around it ![]() ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-23-2015 Kaan Wrote:this is a mazda3... do you think he has speed sensor issues? I'm sure he figured out how to get around it Holy crap how did you find this? I didn't know it was circulating that much. Dude's build is crazy. He is running a 20" lip and a 285 on 19x13's.... Dude has literally changed his frame and done a lot of custom work. Ridiculous stuff haha. He broke his axle moving his car 5 feet... I guess all the crazy stanced Mazda3's are getting out there. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-28-2015 Well tonight was a fail at least I know my summers will fit with the Koni's. Was worried about the Koni's running wider than the D2's, but they don't just the same amount of few MMs of room still lol. Got everything adjusted. Rear shock top mounts on. Rebound to 3/4's for the 10k rear springs. Then, I notice oh wait the rear shock bolts aren't long enough... Tried to run out everywhere was closed except Home Depot. Oh look they have 12x1.75 which I don't need. The rear shocks are from 1st gen mazdaspeed3's/mazda3's which ran a longer bolt due to a thicker mount. The aftermarket coilovers(like my D2's) and OEM suspension made for the 2nd gen had smaller lower shock mounts.... le sigh. So basically I am a rear Mazda3 suspension swapping expert now... Have to look for the lower shock bolts all tomorrow locally and if not order them online. They are 12x1.25 and 90MM long are the ones I need. Will look at a bunch of places around tomorrow (Ace, Lowe's, already looked at Home Depot, trucking places around, some rando car places in Hburg, whatever the fuck else, call Staunton Mazda, idk). Hopefully get this shit finally on Sunday night unless I have to order it... So, done with this. ABS light is still on. Still can guarantee it is the right side. Cleaned sensor. Light still on and still does the noise when turning and 1/2+ in the brakes. If anyone knows someone in Hburg or near who can read ABS codes it would be great if you could send me in that direction. If not I'm buying a new sensor that sits in the arm behind the rotor. The wired part looks fine. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - JustinG - 03-28-2015 Order em, I doubt you will find the strength needed to hold your suspension together. Mcmaster Carr is stupid fast at delivery. Grade 8 or class 10.9 or higher. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-28-2015 JustinG Wrote:Order em, I doubt you will find the strength needed to hold your suspension together. Mcmaster Carr is stupid fast at delivery. Grade 8 or class 10.9 or higher.People have found them.around different hardware stores just about getting lucky which means I'll probably have to order them, but I don't feel like waiting. Hoping Ace pulls through like it has for other people. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-28-2015 ![]() That is Lowe's. My luck keeps getting better. Go to Ace and they have the right size, but of course class is only 8.8....... Sweet. Looks like it is time for the interwebs. I've heard of others using Ace bolts for years now on their 3's with no issues and could get this done, but I'm just going to do it right. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-28-2015 So far online I can not find this size in Class 10.9/Grade 8. Only 12x1.75x90. Kind of lost. I looked where Justin said. Looked on Amazon, Ebay, and rando places. Not sure if I'm just bad at searching or bad at searching. Edit: I don't think they make them. Grade 8/Class 10.9, but of course went to call Mazda dealer and their parts dept just closed so I couldn't ask... sigh Edit#2: Finally: https://www.belmetric.com/bh12x125x90-h ... 06_510_411 Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-31-2015 Washed the summers in preparation to be dipped by Scott. Will be finishing my awaiting mods this weekend with the help of Kaan. Instead of Jesus take the wheel. Kaan take the car. Although that could turn out good or bad ![]() Pics of teh beauties ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - JustinG - 03-31-2015 class 10.9 is metric, grade 8 is standard. What size, length, and thread pitch do you need, ill see if i can find em. Edit: I just reread this. You need longer bolts yes? That simply go through the car and topmounts and you tighten a nut on the bottom? So just get any class 10.9 12 x 1.XX, 90mm bolt you can find and the corresponding nuts that fit. The second number in 12 x X.XX is just the thread pitch. So as long as you get the same size/pitch nuts you're golden. Just took awhile. They are rare in the size and thread pitch for that high of a class. Could only find 8.8 class in the size for awhile. There is no nut. Literally just threads into the bottom arm with a thick washer. You can't reach the other side it is covered. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - JustinG - 03-31-2015 Gotcha....and I misread. Thought we were talking top mounts, not lower. Im tired, bed time. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 04-04-2015 Rear Ground Controls on. These Koni's feel so good and no crazy noises any more except some squeaking on the front passenger side. The height is sitting well except the rear drivers side which needs to be adjusted slightly. Mazda5 rear brakes on and Mazdaspeed3 fronts brakes on. Things are a huge size increase. They also brake ridiculously good. Got a stomach ache after the 3rd foot to floor on the brakes they pull some serious G's now... didn't get the lines on, but I'll have a shop do it as a brake line nut is rounded at the head even using the proper flare wrench I bought.. le sigh haha. Overall a good day. I'll let Chip explain how the brakes are the first foot to floor stop I saw him almost go into the dash  Went to do a few pulls and really test the brakes. I come back a lug nut was missing and others are loose... Luckily Taylor and Chip took the Taco and somehow managed to find it on the backroad to Kaan's . Call that a lucky day. A big thank you to Kaan, Taylor, and Chip for helping me out! Of course there is always the MM foolery. PBR team racing brought to you by MM: ![]() Then the actual pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Senor_Taylor - 04-04-2015 Those new rotors are ridiculously huge. Fuck those compression nuts on the hard line. I hope a shop doesn't kill you to get that done. |
