They pick 3 or 4 brands every cycle and discount them further. It's dangerous!WRXtranceformed Wrote:CaptainHenreh Wrote:I really like this but I have spent too much money as it is, lately.Very nice! I bet that is insanely light, being titanium and already so thin. I love my titanium Blue Angels Skyhawk, it's a lot thicker and beefier in the case and bracelet than that one but you can barely feel it on your wrist Jomadeals.com has three individual watches / luxury items on a deep sale every day, but those are one day only. It's crazy how easily a quick strap change can dress up / dress down a nice watch. These will be for my SKX007 but are interchangeable with any watch with 22mm lugs. Courtesy of Google, the ones I am looking at on my exact watch: ![]() Mine will have a thinner orange stripe but same concept: ![]() More or less what the leather one will look like: ![]() ![]() What it looks like now with OEM jubilee bracelet:
Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 02-11-2016 More watches! I've been eyeing pocket watches for awhile now, but I never pulled the trigger because I couldn't talk myself into it. Working and vacationing in Prague, my wife and I came across an antique jewelry and watch shop. After looking at a few pieces, I decided this one from the 1920s would be my souvenir. The wife actually paid for it, so I guess it was a late birthday present. I still don't have any practical use for it, but now I'll have one when I'm old and want to look all OG.

I've never heard of the brand but there are a ton of boutique watchmakers out that way and that is a pretty neat momento of the trip. Would love to know if you heard more about its history! If you want a nice way to display it, pick up a pocket watch stand like this. I have one for my 1920's Elgin in my man cave: http://www.amazon.com/Large-Pocket-Watc ... atch+stand
Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 02-16-2016 It's not gold plated - the incandescent light makes it look yellow when it's not. The brand is Swiss, but I don't think they're particularly valuable or collectible. I liked the piece and it was a good souvenir, so I figured I couldn't go wrong for $90. Best I could tell, I wasn't being price gouged, so I'm happy with the purchase. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the watch's history other than it was probably made in 1925. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - WRXtranceformed - 02-16-2016 That's awesome! Yeah it looks like the company is still around making small batch watches even today. That's a great price imo for a piece that old, I paid about twice that much on Ebay for my gold plated Elgin of the same era. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - WRXtranceformed - 02-22-2016 Retro toy / game store got me again: ![]() ![]() Quick story on the Voltron: Growing up, one Christmas all I asked my parents for was a Voltron figure. What I really wanted was the one that came apart into the different cats. They gave me a cool one but it a figure where all the parts were connected and I was a little bummed. So I saw this and had to get it to satisfy my childhood disappointment  The black lion is a little busted and missing some pieces (on the head and both legs are broken) so I ordered another parts model on eBay to see if I can jerry rig a full one together. The screws holding the body together will NOT budge at all so it should be interesting. Also picked up an Ironhide Leader class, because black GMC truck. He's missing the part that makes the top of his hood and his front wheels (I found him in a bin with a bunch of others) so I'm going to go back later this week and see if I can locate those two. But he was also a fraction of what these apparently cost so there's that even if I can't find them
Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - WRXtranceformed - 02-25-2016 Ebay parts lion surgery was a success! Had to break out the power drill and still ended up snapping one of the screw holes (which is fine because it had 5 more to hold the body together. Man these things are so brittle, like I don't know how kids actually played with these in the 90s. It was fun to see how it all went together though and was a pretty straightforward swap once I got the body apart. I was able to borrow the two legs and top head piece from the parts lion. I did snap the corner of one of the leg covers trying to reinstall it on the new leg, but it's not noticeable at all unless I point it out so I will do a little superglue experimentation at some point. Success! He joins his brothers on my desk!

Found a cached post up on a watch classified, guy retracted the ad because he wanted to keep it but after speaking with him he decided to let it go. Small boutique German watchmaker known for really high quality pieces without having stupidly high prices. Beautiful build quality, sapphire bezel (!), great Swiss ETA 2893-2 movement (same in a lot of GMT Hamiltons, Sinns and higher end Panerais), engraved rehaut, etc. It even arrived here on my birthday! Thx great seller. ![]() ![]()
Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Ryan T - 09-20-2016 So my duties at work have shifted and for the next 12-18 months I will be doing a lot more court related work. Since I'll be spending a lot more time in a suit, I figured a nicer watch was in order. Ordered this yesterday, should be here Thursday:
Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - WRXtranceformed - 09-20-2016 Very nice choice! My quartz Tissot keeps excellent time and is definitely a looker. I use a little bit of Lexol conditioner on the band (similar to yours) and it keeps it in great shape Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Ryan T - 09-20-2016 What's your thought on the Seiko Automatics? I know it's a japanese movement, but have you been pretty happy with it? Reliable? |
