We dont hate hondas?

- stevegula - 11-15-2006

Neither do I. But compared to every other motorcycle bored I'm on, the VFR makes a pretty dominate appearence on here. Just curious as to why, as I know little about the bike.

- G.Irish - 11-15-2006

Well mostly because Andrew loves them and because the 98-01 is widely considered to be the best sport tourer ever (even by the British press whom are fond of slagging on just about everything), certainly one of the best motorcycles Honda ever made. Oh, and it's one of the very few V4's on the road.

- Ginger - 11-15-2006

Whird!

I love my old VFR. I can't wait for the next five years to pass so I can get it running again Wink

- Mike - 11-15-2006

It's a great commuting and touring bike... Just the right amount of agreesiveness and comfort. The V4 sounds amazing as well Smile

- Apoc - 11-15-2006

Probably because there are about 10 people in the motorcycle section and 2 of them have/had VFRs. I'm curious how VFRs are 2up.

I think the Chapins have one too

Yup - make it 3!

Also - that bike for sale is way over-priced. FMV is probably closer to $4.5k, if not a little lower.

You never have anything nice to say about them Wink

<- Suzuki fanboi, dur. And I don't hate Honda, I just don't think they make great 600cc or 1000cc I4 motorcycles.

Or V4's... I'm sure you think the RC51 is a heavy boat Wink

So what else is there, scooters? Wink

Upon what evidence do you base that opinion on?

- Ginger - 11-15-2006

.... who cares? They make bikes better than any of us can ride them.

The VFR's are great two up, btw.

they don't win motogp... oh... wait...

They certainly didn't set AMA Superbike or WSBK on fire.

The RC51 was a heavy bike.

G - I base it on riding friends' bikes and not being particularly impressed. I consider the RR a great improvement on the F4i, but it still didn't strike me as amazzzing. I love how much fuckin work is required to get to the coolant fill on the F4/F4i, that was just retarded. So much so that Honda said in the manual that it was best to just take it to the dealership. Undertail exhausts are a waste of weight and metal and a loss of HP and CG. Small stuff that just turns me off.

The first motorcyle I bought was a Honda, and it was great. I don't hate the brand. I just dislike a few of their bikes. It just so happens that those bikes are the most commonly owned by those on this board.

It appears that the most commonly owned one is the VFR, which you said you didn't know much about.

Well...the 1000RR was runner up in '05 and '06 in WSBK. The Gixxer 1000 did win the championship in 05 but didn't defend it's title very well this year (Troy Corser in 4th).

In AMA in 04 the HRC 1000RR's took 9 wins and really only lost out because they stole points from each other. In '05 American Honda didn't lease HRC bikes and had to develop from the ground up and did poorly. '06 rolled around and it comes out that the Suzukis had been using TC for at least a season. Once everyone was allowed TC you saw the gaps at the front close considerably. I however don't think the Suzukis would've lost either way in 05.

In British Superbike the CBR1000RR won the championship this year and was runner up last year (the GSX-R won 03 and 04). And of course it has won the last 3 years of the 8 Hours of Suzuka. I think the 04/05 1000RR was overweight and probably a bit too lazy but it was a good enough platform to be competitive in racing. I think the K5 GSX-R1000 was the best supersport 1000 of the last few years though.

As for the 600, the 600RR has won every year of World Supersport and British Supersport it has contested (4 years in a row). It also won the 2003 title here in the AMA Supersport, which was the last time there was a serious Honda entry in the class. Formula Xtreme kind of doesn't count in 04 and 05 (since there was no factory competition there) but this season Josh Hayes was able to beat 2 all-new factory R6's with his semi-factory 600RR. By contrast the GSX-R600 has not won a championship in any of the aforementioned series in the last 4 years.

Quote:The RC51 was a heavy bike.
True it is heavy, but it still won 2 WSBK championships and 1 AMA championship among other things.

The undertail exhaust thing is personal preference. The stubby Moto GP exhaust is only something that has come along with the new R6 and K6 GSX-R 600/750. Before that their exhausts were just about as long as the undertail exhausts of the ZX-6R and 600RR. Weight-wise all of the bikes are within a few pounds of each other anyway.

At the end of the day the big 4's 1000's and 600's are so close to each other in performance that it's really a wash until you get into pro racing.

4rlz? that would be why my statement said "I don't think they make great 600cc or 1000cc I4s". Think, as in opinion. My experience with the Honders work wise and riding wise always makes me appreciate my GSX-R more.

I got asked Friday night by a guy "What bike do you think I should get?" My response was "Whatever you like." The only time I ever push Suzuki is for track use when the person is interested in buying a used bike. Given that the 01-03 GSX-Rs are cheap and came from the factory with a steering damper, predrilled holes for spools, the ability to be flipped to reverse shift style shifting in 1 minute, fuel injected and have a shit-ton of OEM parts on eBay and BBs is too much convenience to pass up.
