The dealer in Sterling has a 650S in a pretty stunning blue-green color parked right out front. Just sayin.

So I got home late from the arrest and too tired to really mess with the watch much other than unpacking it and shaking it to get the movement working. The automatic movement is pretty smooth, smoother than videos on YouTube make it look. The watch face is a good size for my wrist and it wears very well. It's heavy, which I like, but not so much that it's cumbersome. I need to either take 2 links out or take it and have 2 links taken out; haven't decided if I want to do it myself or not, I've read it's a real PITA to do. Either way, I'm too tired to mess with the links tonight. Packaging isn't as impressive as the Citizen or the Tissot, but I don't wear the box so I don't really care too much. It came wrapped around a nice pillow and was undamaged, that's good enough for me. The outer dial spins one direction with firm, crisp clicks, which is nice. The watch face looks black in some pictures and at some angles, but it is actually dark blue. In person you pick up the blue a lot more than you do in pictures. I think once I get it sized this will quickly become a daily wear watch on office days and casual outings with the wife.

Looks great!! Since this is a diver, you know you need to post up an obligatory lume shot...charge that beast up and show us what it looks like all Christmas-treed up! :thumbup:

Links shouldn't be too bad to size if you've got the tools, if you take a pic of the sides of one of the links I can kind of give you a feeler on it. Pretty much any jeweler out there can size it for you though for like $10.

One cool touch on yours is the black date wheel. It's one upgrade that I think would have looked really cool on my SKX build but at this point I don't care enough to send it back to get done :lol:

That is going to make for a great daily wearer, on or off-duty. It should run somewhere between 12-15s/day unless you get a factory freak and it may take a few days of wear to settle in to that. If you want to time it yourself, there is a free app you can download called WatchCheck. I use it to track each of my pieces and how well they are keeping time, over time 8)

Tell me if I'm being overly anal about something here. I brought the watch to work with me today to get it sized and when I started looking at it under the fluorescent lights in my office I noticed a speck, between 1 and 2 o'clock, one notch closer to 2, that is visible in this picture. I tried a soft cloth to remove it and also tried a little windex but it won't come off. You can't feel it with your finger, but I know it's on either the outside or the inside of the crystal because under certain light you can see the shadow it leaves on the watch face up close. I sent an email to Jomashop about it, but I've already taken all the tags and stickers off of the watch so I don't know if they would honor a return or exchange of it. Is that something you would send a watch back for? Or is it livable? Any other ideas on removing it, or just live with it?

I haven't made it a secret that I am crazy, crazy anal about my stuff so I would definitely give Jomashop a call and exchange it. Stuff happens and it was probably a particle that got sealed under the crystal at the factory. I mean you could take a loupe to any entry-mid level watch and find a lot of flaws from the factory but if it's something like that that stands out I would probably get it addressed.

The other option would be to pay a good watchmaker / jeweler to remove the crystal and clean it. But it's brand new and JS is pretty good about stuff like that so if it was me I would give them a call.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Ryan T - 06-22-2017

So I ran the watch by a jewelry shop owned by a friend of mine from high school. He looked at it under his magnifying tool and said the dust was for sure on the inside of the crystal. I asked him if he could take it apart and clean it and get it out and he said he could but he wanted to try an old watch makers trick first. He covered the crystal with a soft cloth and flicked it with his finger pretty hard four or five times, always straight down. Dust fell off the inside of the crystal and whereever it landed, it is invisible now. He said this is pretty common with grey market watches (jomashop) where they are disassembled after they leave the factory and later reassembled. So the spots gone, he sized it for me for $5 and I'm one happy camper.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - WRXtranceformed - 06-22-2017

That works, that's a cool trick! Hopefully that particle doesn't end up sticking back to the crystal at some point but you should be good!

That's the first I've heard of watches being taken apart by Jomashop, I guess anything is possible but I still think it was more likely some dust that got past the QC test from Seiko's factory. Either way you don't have to worry about it..you can wear and enjoy! :thumbup:

"The Black Hole" is up for sale so I can pick up a newer variant that's more "tool" than cool and to dump the rest of what's left into the Rolly fund Smile

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Ryan T - 06-24-2017

So just a quick pick of my 'pitiful in comparison' collection. I ordered the watch box last week and it came today. I ordered the 10 watch box but they sent me the 12 watch box by mistake...I'm not complaining. Only 4 of these watches ever get worn, but I tossed the others in there to sorta make the box not look so empty until I can figure out/afford what other watches I want. Top left is my Tissot, which I love. I wear it almost exclusively as a dress watch and I love it. It's my wife's least favorite, but it's in my top 2. Beside that is a Pulsar my wife bought me about 6 years ago. It wasn't a terribly expensive watch but it is light, wears well, keeps excellent time and has generally served me very well. Beside that is the gold Elgin my dad bought me when I was in high school. Not sure why I was into gold watches then, but I haven't worn it in 15 years. I could barely get it over my hand today. On the end of the top row is a Dakota that cost a whopping $25, but it's the first watch I ever purchased for myself. Second row starts with the Seiko Automatic I just bought followed by the Citizen Chronograph. On the end is a Fossil watch that belonged to my wife's dad. After he passed away she gave it to me. I've never worn it, but I keep it around because it's important to her.

[Image: IMG_0902_zpsbiy5tirv.jpg]

I'm not really sure where I want to go next. I'd like a black face, black leather strap dress watch to go with my grey and black suits. I've looked at a few Hamilton's that fit the bill for that. I'd also like a metal band chronograph watch as well. I would really like to add a Tag Heuer or something in that price range/quality level at some point, but no plans for that in the immediate future.

Dude, nice score with the bigger box! Watch boxes are like gun safes...it never hurts to go bigger :lol:

The collection is definitely not pitiful! I've come to learn that for every one of the very few snooty high end watch enthusiasts there are 50 down to earth collectors that have everything from cheap Timex Weekenders to Rolex Daytonas in their collection. I think that's what's cool about the passion behind watch collecting, it's not just about what you like or how much your collection costs but also the story behind your pieces and what their purpose / meaning is to you! I think all of us that have posted in this thread have great examples of this. Love the growing collection there, very nice mix of versatile and sentimental pieces!

As I alluded earlier, I love my Protrek PRG-130Y and it was really hard to find when I bought it back in the day (it was an Asia-market spec only) but Casio has since upgraded its ABC sensors to version 3 and they are like 5x more accurate and use like 90% less energy. This watch also unfortunately does not have atomic clock sync, which is the one thing I always wished it had. There was an identical version made exclusively for Amazon called the PAW-1500Y-1 that had atomic clock sync but it was long sold out and discontinued when I was looking years ago. The PRG makes a great doomsday watch and IMO is the coolest looking Protrek ever made, but that slot in my watch box is for the outdoors/hiking/doomsday tool and the newer version makes for a slightly better tool.

There is a lot to choose from in the US market range but all the cool stuff as always is found in the Asia-spec markets. After a ton of research, I had it narrowed down to basically two watches:

The PRW-S3500-1: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://products.protrek.com/asia-mea/en/_detail/PRW-S3500-1/">http://products.protrek.com/asia-mea/en ... W-S3500-1/</a><!-- m -->
[Image: 1425303494368]

or the PRW-S3100-JF: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://products.protrek.com/asia-mea/en/_detail/PRW-S3100-1/">http://products.protrek.com/asia-mea/en ... W-S3100-1/</a><!-- m -->
[Image: 1425303494351]

There are a ton of cheaper variants of both watches with different colors and negative-faces like my PRG. My time with tons of different watches led me to these two due to a few superior differences:
1. These models have anti-reflective sapphire crystals instead of mineral crystals, which are superior in every way
2. These models have a stainless steel bezel instead of aluminum
2. These models have carbon fiber reinforced resin bands which should make them pretty much future proof. The 3500 also has standard 22mm lugs and can accept aftermarket straps while many in the Protrek series cannot

Despite both having mostly identical features (including the atomic sync I was looking for) I ended up pulling the trigger on the 3500 this morning because it has double the water resistance and has a similar wrist footprint to the PRG which I am comfortable with. It's also on a mega sale right now on Jomashop and with a $10 off coupon and free shipping it was between $70 and $130 cheaper than the S3100 anywhere I could find it out there. For $229 shipped, I don't think you're going to find a more capable, quality outdoors watch out there :thumbup:

A video preview, I'll give my own thoughts on it when it arrives and I get it calibrated for this region:

So yeah, I've got the PRG up for sale to recoup costs...if anyone is interested I've got more of an emotional price on it right now than anything and would cut you a special MM price 8) Don't let my desire to upgrade put this watch down, it has more capability than you would probably ever need and will last a VERY long time under a lot of abuse. The PRG also has moon and tide phases which none of the newer models have anymore.

First impressions are that pictures do not do this justice. I would say my PRG-130Y has it beat out in the looks department but this watch has a great wrist presence and a very premium feel to it. It also wears more comfortably. When holding them side by side in each hand they feel roughly the same weight, on paper the PRW is 3.2 ounces vs the PRG at 2.75. However the PRW must be balanced a little better or there is something about the bracelet that makes it feel lighter on the wrist. I think it could be the carbon fiber inserts in the resin band vs. the all resin band of the PRG that keeps the weight distributed on the top of the wrist instead of all around it. The stainless bezel rotates butter smooth, no clicks it just glides...much nicer feeling than the resin bezel on the old one. The sapphire has that nice AR glaze to it as well.

The watch itself is jam packed full of features. I set it on the proper time zone, got my latitude and longitude set up and attempted to calibrate the compass. Although with a side by side with a compass app on my phone, it looks like it's already dead on. I can adjust it for magnetic declination and might go ahead and do it; the app I found can calculate that for me pretty much wherever I am. I think I still need to calibrate the proper altitude and get it to sync to the atomic clock. I tried several times inside and outside of the house and despite getting a strong signal it failed every time. It's set to auto-sync up to 6 times between 12:00am-5:00am and apparently it's easier to receive the signal at night, so I'll set it on my bed stand next to our atomic alarm clock and hopefully it will connect. It has a sync history function and it did sync up over a month ago, somewhere, so we'll see what the morning brings. This has everything you'd need in a hiking / camping / doomsday watch imo!

It's going to take me another day to get it set up right and probably another to memorize how to use it to navigate, but this was a purchase I would make all over again in a heartbeat. Holding this and the PRG side by side, I kind of don't want to sell the PRG...I love them both haha. I might find another way to "pay myself back" since I now have a "one watch in, one watch out" policy :lol:

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - WRXtranceformed - 06-30-2017

And the PRG is sold Sad Stoked it went to a super deserving home though, the guy who bought it had one that he wore on a tour in Iraq. Came back home and is working as a LEO, was at the gym one day and someone stole it out of his locker. He had been looking for one and came across my ad on WUS.
Gave him a great discount and ended up breaking even on the PRW purchase, all is well in the watch enthusiasts world Smile

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - WRXtranceformed - 06-30-2017

Last watch spam for the day but I know some of you guys are high on the tritium watches like me, this is probably the cheapest you'll ever find one with good build quality and movement. Deep Blue is having a July 4 sale, this model is $149 on the NATO strap or a little more if you want a rubber or polycarbonate link bracelet, after you use the 40% coupon code CYBER:

Bunch of color options:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.deepbluewatches.com/datrpcs.html">http://www.deepbluewatches.com/datrpcs.html</a><!-- m -->

Swiss quartz is gonna be super accurate (my DB swiss quartz is the most accurate watch I own, hasn't lost a second in months), good water resistance, etc. The T25 isn't quite as bright as the T100 tritium but that's still a heck of a deal.

That code works site-wide too, there are some other cool models they have out right now just at much higher price points. But that one stuck out!

Trying to get a watch for my brother as a Best Man gift. He currently owns an Omega Moonwatch and Rolex submariner, so not matter what I'm not exactly going to be impressing him. He did seem to like my open-heart Orient, so was thinking something along those lines, the Orient Star line seems to be pretty nice.

Any suggestions? Trying to keep this in the $300ish range - thought also of a Graf Zeppelin.

Re: Lee's Watch Thread for MM'ers of Impeccable Taste - Ryan T - 07-16-2017

For that range I really think you can't go wrong with a Tissot dress style automatic watch.
