love some of the design decisions they made.

shame it won't live up to the off road legend of the old defenders though, that really made them special. unibody/no axles/little tires and giant horspers from that I6, its more of a dirt road runabout. plenty though for 90% of buyers.

Hey now, my wife has taken her LR4 off roading like a million times... oh wait no she has maybe hit a curb.

yours too?

me: details SUV, applies tire dressing, looks great
wife, next day: brings SUV back from work with concrete dust smeared up half the sidewall
me: jumping curbs today honey?
her: HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT

RE: Automotive News Discussion - Sijray21 - 09-10-2019

i think i'm in the minority where i am very not excited by anything Land Rover. Seems like a neat vehicle though.

It's cool, but I have no use for it and never will.

That thing looks like an angry playskool toy.

I mean, it kinda looks like an Element and a Mini had a baby.. no?

Like when you see a cocker spaniel mixed with a chiuaua and you know the chiuaua walked around for a few weeks after like hot shit because he managed the mechanics of it all.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - Steve85 - 09-11-2019

Seems like a neat SUV with great features but I think they erased all the safari character. Reminds of the '56 Thunderbird redo from the early 2000's in terms of the approach to modernizing an iconic design. I really like the interior though, blends the modern tech into an overall simple design.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 09-11-2019

Fugly as hell. Some neat tricks. I mostly can't figure out why the automotive press is apparently looking at another vehicle while writing about it

RE: Automotive News Discussion - Evan - 09-12-2019

That's like if Jeep took the Compass but released it instead as the Wrangler.
This thing is probably a fine vehicle, but it isn't a Defender.

Chevy got a ton of shit recently for calling their new MOM-UV the Blazer, LR should get at least an order of magnitude more for fucking up the Defender nameplate.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 09-13-2019

Do people (other than on the internet) really care what a car is called?

It's got approach and departure angles akin to a Wrangler, can go through something like 35" of standing water, and the air suspension will kick it up to a hair over 11" of ground clearance. Locking center and rear diffs with low range. 8,200 lbs towing and 2k lbs payload.

Y'all may find it ugly, but it sounds quite capable.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 09-13-2019

Thanks to Rex I was turned onto the National Hyundai Test Drive Offer (https://m.hyundaiusa.com/special-promotions/national-test-drive-offer.html). Sign up to go test drive any Hyundai and they will pay you a $50 visa gift card. I signed up for a Veloster and plan to drive the N sometime between now and 9/21.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - D_Eclipse9916 - 09-13-2019

I will wait till in person, but I actually find it quite handsome.

I don't care what it's called. For me, its the spiritual successor to the LR4 instead of the ugly Discovery.

Offroad specs beating or matching a Wrangler Rubicon with an open feeling cockpit and usability/comfort-ability of an every day vehicle. Oh lament the loss of a wheezer motor that is 13 seconds to 0-60, atrocious gas mileage and rides like a dump truck, HOW COULD THEY LOSE THOSE THINGS!

I dont like the 2 door though, agreed on the playschool looks.

Well that sounds fun, I might do that too! How do they not have the Genesis in the list of cars to drive? wtf....

I'm not sure Genesis is a "all hyundai dealers" thing anymore?

I only saw old Genesis Coupes, and no literature in the dealership at all.

Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 09-13-2019

I think the Genesis line is it's own thing now. I don't know that they are building stand alone dealerships, but I also don't know where they are selling them. I'll report back when I go.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - Kaan - 09-13-2019

back in the day... you could put 31s on a Rover and make all the jeep kids look likes fools off road... at least overland.

if it has the same specs or similar as a wrangler... thats a hard pass.

"oh yes i'd like more maintenance than my FIAT Jeep, at more cost, thats slightly uglier, just as capable, and still a Rover"

Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 09-15-2019

So I went to Hyundai and of course they did not have any Veloster Ns on the lot. Didn't even have a single Veloster. Neither did their other location. The fuck?

Anyway took the Palisade on a quick ride. Limited has every possible bell and whistle available. The ride was smooth and surprisingly quiet. A big departure from previous Hyundais I have driven. For $49k you get a hell of a lot of car. The same vehicle from MB, BMW, or even the high end suburban would easily run $65+.

Asked about the Genesis line. They are transitioning them to their own dealerships. It's slow going and many are still being sold through the traditional Hyundai dealers.

Typical bad salesman crap - I think I knew more about the palisade than he did and my knowledge was pretty much reading the window sticker. "There's so many features in these cars it's basically impossible for us sales guys to know them all." It's really not guy. All cars have basically the same safety and tech thanks to CarPlay/Android Auto. You're just lazy.

This is honestly the biggest thing holding Hyundai/Kia back. Their dealers/sales force are awful.
