RE: Automotive News Discussion - Apoc - 08-30-2019 I will own an RS wagon before I die. It's really the only thing that I care to own at some point... and maybe a Caterham 7. It's weird, to me, that so many people bemoan the Supra but foam at the mouth over a four door Wrangler pickup. IMO, that's the biggest crime committed in recent history against the car gods of yesteryear. Street cars are the ultimate blue balls. unless you're wheeling every weekend i don't get the excitement around any truck compared to a fun street car. "oh boy, i get to tow a big dual axle box down the interstate at 65mph!" i mean what else can you do with a truck on the street? ride up a curb? if anything its just an indication that most street cars are overpowered and overtired. i'd love an ND miata if just for being about to drive 8/10 on the way to Kroger and not worry about hurting anyone. Street cars are the ultimate blue balls. #dadlife The practicality, comfortability, and ease in which I use a vehicle lends itself to a truck. I have been without my truck for 2 weeks and it’s driving me bonkers. I missed it immediately and constantly find myself in situations where “wow this was trivial with a truck vs finding a solution in a smaller car”. I don’t miss any of my previous “fun” street cars half as much as my truck. I guess that’s why they build different style vehicles for different people and points in their lives. I kept my truck 8 years and didn’t really feel the need to get rid of it; but got a good enough offer to sell it for a newer truck. I was happy with it vs my constant selling and buying of sports cars to find the right one. Buys Honda Fit. My point proven. Check out this video explaining the creation of the Supra/Z4. I had zero knowledge of this car and this was pretty eye opening. Toyota worked hand in hand during development. They didn't just farm it out a la badge engineering. It was to the point that BMW engineers were getting frustrated with how much testing Toyota put into every part even down to different bolts and fasteners in their quest for reliability. Anyone still claiming it's all BMW hasn't done any research other than looking at the car. https://youtu.be/_jbyzmtgU_0 RE: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 09-01-2019 (08-30-2019, 03:23 PM)WRXtranceformed Wrote: Anyone see the new TL Type-S hype video? Drove my mom 3.5 miles to the weed store yesterday in the 911. Her: Good God, how fast are we going? Me: 30... which is the speed limit. Her: Holy shit. I was about to tell you to show the hell down. Me: Welcome to old cars. Her: Feels like I'm on a racetrack. I wrote this comment on the Facebook pic yesterday, but immediately deleted it. I never believed Kaan might have been in the market for a Supra. Just explaining how I could see a different perspective after being a huge sports car guy myself. Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 09-02-2019 It all really depends on your situation and desires. I loved my Tacoma in College and preferred to drive it a lot of days to my Miatas or E46. I hated my Tacoma once I moved to Nova. I really despised dailying my 4runner as well and preferred driving the E30 when I could. I felt handicapped ever since selling the Tacoma and now feel very good and independent again having the truck. I have much less desire for a street car with the truck than I had desire for a truck while having a street car. I enjoy having space for everything, neat features, high seating position, etc. Not much enjoyment comes from a street car when I'm mostly sitting in traffic and the only time I'm out and about on the weekends is if I'm picking up parts, towing, or carrying people. I'm driving back from the beach right now with 4 adults and all of our stuff in the bed. Everyone has ample space and is comfortable. But I dont miss owning multiple cars more..... and for 95% of what I use a car for, the VW wagon is better. RE: Automotive News Discussion - Apoc - 09-02-2019 I have never felt the desire to even consider owning a truck... but I have no hobbies and don't do anything, so there's that. I wouldn't mind having a two door Wrangler (can't believe I even had to specify two doors) as a city car, but they are crap inside and overpriced. Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 09-02-2019 Test drove a Z71 Colorado when looking for a new vehicle. It would have been nice to have a few times a year for projects around the house and trips to the beach. Really glad I didn't get it as I'm pretty sure I would have been less than pleased driving it everyday and I can't imagine throwing an infant car seat up that high (short people problems). RE: Automotive News Discussion - Sijray21 - 09-03-2019 Having the Ridgeline now is interesting. It's incredibly nice to just have the ability to do most of what i want to do without really needing to coordinate a rental or borrow. I was able to haul a couple loads to the dump as i dismantled our old backyard fence (posts, concrete, and fence boards) this weekend. I did enjoy driving my Titan when i had it and this brings back some memories of that truck. Although the Rideline is not nearly as capable as the Titan I do love the interior and ride quality a lot more. I have zero desire to drive the Ridgeline for fun so that'll keep the miles down. Ideally if i had more space i would've gotten a cheap work style truck and a nicer, more comfortable car to drive around, but that gets into the debate of having multiple vehicles. Capability and comfort in a single package is nice for me right now. A point in time a couple years after graduating college i had 3 cars and a motorcycle living with my mom in her townhouse complex (when they weren't stolen), which was really annoying. Now, even with a 2-car wide driveway, 2-car garage (really a 1.5 car garage), and SFH with cul-de-sac/street parking i find having more than 1 car/person a bit of a pain. For now I'll take the trade-off of having to play vehicle tetris to have a very useful vehicle (truck), a capable/useful economy car (fwd wagon), and a cheaper/fun/tinker car (roadster). being able to put 4 people in the cab plus the toddler comfortably and place whatever in the trunk or bed is nice. the interior is the most cush i've ever had, the sound system is pretty nice, and it's incredibly easy to drive. Parking isn't as bad as i thought it would be and the wife can operate it well and enjoys it. RE: Automotive News Discussion - Apoc - 09-03-2019 I liked the part where having three cars with all that parking is a pain. Fuck yeah, America. RE: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 09-03-2019 Sijray21 Wrote:Having the Ridgeline now is interesting potentially incendiary question - is the Ridgeline actually a truck? is truck "body on frame" or "has a bed?" its basically a lifted odyssey with AWD and a bed right? i can't believe honda doesn't sell more of them. they are probably a classic case of Great On Paper vs Truck Buyer's Emotions and Self Image...if you don't need to tow or wheel, they do everything people normally do with their trucks but don't look and sound as butch. same perception issue people run into with minivans too. RE: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 09-03-2019 (09-03-2019, 10:46 AM)Apoc Wrote: I liked the part where having three cars with all that parking is a pain. Yeah that one leaves me puzzled. Z3 stays in the garage and other two fit in the driveway. Plus room for a 4th on the street! RE: Automotive News Discussion - Apoc - 09-03-2019 To be fair, I would probably drive the 911 more if the 328 wasn't always in our one car driveway blocking our 0.75 car garage. RE: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 09-03-2019 The ridgeline is a minivan el camino  its more truck than 95% of truck buyers need, but I guess everyone's worried the world wont know how big their dick is if they dont have a dually f250 RE: Automotive News Discussion - Evan - 09-03-2019 People love telling other people what they need. If you are paying 100% truck money, its not unreasonable to expect to get 100% truck capability. Even if you only use it for that somewhere between once a year to once ever. How does the Ridgeline pricing compare to other midsize trucks? IMO it really only makes sense if its significantly cheaper than the competition, and usually Honda doesn't do that. |
