I don't know much about Hannan but I was getting pretty tired of Flash. He wasn't really doing much this season and we've got issues at center which I dont think MoJo will be able to solve all by himself. Maybe now that Flash is gone, MoJo will see it as a sign to step it up if Laich doesn't take over the 2nd line center duties. That is if MoJo can hang on to a regular roster spot. Or maybe bringing in a mediocre defenseman is an insurance policy because Poti keeps reinjuring himself or Green is injured worse than they're letting on.

They don't need forwards, they need defensemen... their GA is 10-30% higher than every other division leader. They're working for a Cup win this year and I doubt they weren't gonna re-sign Yeasty when he became a free agent, so it's benefit now for little loss in the future.

Flash is better than Laich IMO but was probably not worth the 2.5mil. His stats werent great so far but he was playing well and has some good speed.
not sure how much hannan makes though, hopefully it will free up some cash and we can resign semin. would be in trouble this season without sasha.

Hannan makes like ~$4.5mil of which the Caps are on the hook for about ~$3mil. I still think that the Caps will trade Semin at the deadline which I might not be that sad about.

I feel like Semin is very hit or miss. He'll have great games and then he'll slump for like 2 or 3 games where he doesn't do much of anything. He's forever trying to take fancy shots instead of just taking normal shots.

I think Hannan is a free agent at the end of the year. Unless he makes a HUGE difference, I doubt the Caps resign him.

But now he is the 2nd leading scorer in the league and is holding up the offense while Ovie gets drunk at his DVD release parties. The team needs him.

I don't mind it to be honest. Helps keep the player motivated and keeps him tradable - not sure I would want Semin on a 5+ year contract anyway.

I figured some center was inbound when the caps sent perreault down to hershey.
but this trade really really sucks.
steckel was a monster on the pk, the best faceoff guy in the league, and probably the best 4th line center in the league. trade him away AND and 2nd round pick for a washed up old veteran
