if anyone needs to borrow a helmet, I can bring mine.. its sa2000 rated and what not...

might as well bring it, im gonna try to get rides on the track Smile

- Dragon - 09-16-2004

Rating, bah we don't check ratings on passenger's helmets, as long as it looks like the right kinda helmet (ie not a bicycle/skater's helmet) you're good to go.

- navin - 09-16-2004

well i was gonna bring it for people that are driving on track, and didnt want to use a rental...

so long as they dont have lice..!!

yeah, because in an accident only the driver can hit their head. i certainly wouldn't be broadcasting that you're skipping out on safety. if there was an incident, and the helmet wasn't a sufficient rating, and insurance finds that post from you... bad news for nasa-va

Dave Derecola the new registrar thought that we were just posting the confirmation info on the nasaracing.net site under the event page and didn't realize that we still wanted to send out the e-mails too. We started posting the info on the website since so many people said they didn't receive the e-mails (spam filters). But we still intended for them to go out. By the time I realized that they had not gone out (Monday), he was scrambling to come up with a way to send them out. Still not sure if they went out or not. Miscommunication on our part, and we apologize.

And I do see your name registered along with several others on this board (Jason, Chris, Chad, Dave....maybe more).

Anyway......weather looking better!

Chris Wrote:yeah... I would expect more from you. anyways, bring your helmet- it will get some use.
Expect more if you wish, but the point is that on grid we've been given no instructions to check the ratings of student/passenger helmets. Racers yes, students, no. If there's any enforcement of it I'd assume it's done at tech when a student registers. There's already enough to deal with on grid without us having to go around checking on every person's helmet to ensure that it's the proper rating.

MichaelJComputer Wrote:yeah, because in an accident only the driver can hit their head. i certainly wouldn't be broadcasting that you're skipping out on safety. if there was an incident, and the helmet wasn't a sufficient rating, and insurance finds that post from you... bad news for nasa-va
We're not skipping out on safety, that waiver that you sign on the way in absolves of of stupidity on a person's part for wearing improper safety gear. If there's a requirement for some sort of rating (which I don't believe there is for students) then it's detailed somewhere and anyone going on track is supposed to have read that, so if they choose to ignore it that's their own fault. Think of it this way, how many of you have harnesses/helmets that wouldn't pass safety tech if you were a racer. Students/passengers aren't required to follow the same rating/expiration regulations that racers are, and therefore on grid we're not required to double check what Tech should have caught.

- Mike - 09-17-2004

 good response, you're absolved of any wrongdoing Tongue

fwiw, the minimum rating is an m-rated helmet.

- Dragon - 09-17-2004

I mean I'm not trying to shirk out of any duties here, and not trying to cast any blame elsewhere, but we've honestly never been instructed to check on anything as far as helmets go. If it's something that Chris thinks we should do I'd be more than happy to add it to the list of grid reponsibilities.

It's actually really easy.

When we get up there tonight, lets try to claim a large portion of space back in the woods. That will give us plenty of room for 2-3 canopies, all of our cars, and Mike's and my tents (I intend to camp as well Mike, unless this storm gets too bad).

- Dragon - 09-17-2004

Find me when y'all get up there so that I can give you RJ's canopy.
