- .RJ - 03-27-2006 I got them on, and i think they're tight enough - with a 3-screwdriver circus..... They're also the shitty parts store variety clamps. I'm just going to order the OEM boot kits, and get a proper band tool for next time. - BLINGMW - 03-28-2006 Andy Wrote:...say fuck and using big ass zip ties though they need to be checked often. check what now? Hooray zip ties! I certianly wasn't going to screw around with those damn clamps  - CaptainHenreh - 03-28-2006 .RJ Wrote:Ok, so is there a secret handshake for CV boot clamps? Funny, I just did this. You need CV Boot Clamp Pliers, just like I have right here. Took five seconds, got a nice tight crimp.
- .RJ - 03-28-2006 http://www.vfaq.com/mods/CVboots.html *lightbulb* - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-28-2006 hahahhahah the dsm vfaq. I didnt know that non-dsmers even knew about that site. - .RJ - 03-28-2006 It was a link from the raxles website. - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-28-2006 That makes it a lot less fun...damn you! Funny how other car's owners can find the site no problem but on dsm websites people ask dumbass questions answered in the vfaq and we tell em 60 times to go to the site and they say they cant find it. Dumbass non-turbo guys, of course not you justin.... - Evan - 03-28-2006 I was just reading the vfaq yesterday when i googled leakdown test instructions... - JustinG - 03-28-2006  - .RJ - 04-09-2006 More on teh busted engine... tonight, I did a leakdown test - 15/10/15/20% There was some coming out of the oil drain holes back up through the head, but almost all the leakdown was coming out of the exhaust - I could hear it rushing out the header pipes as well. So, looks like I will leave the bottom end alone and rebuild the head for now, since the rings dont seem to be the source of the blowby. Pulled the head off the spare engine, a little dirty but it appears it was in pretty good shape ![]() ![]()
- .RJ - 04-10-2006 It was suggested to me that I burned up the exhaust valves by running the valve clearances too tight..... and I always put them at the tight end of factory spec and sometimes .001" more. That might explain a lot....... - D_Eclipse9916 - 04-10-2006 Where does your exhaust run on the race car? (I dont know) but its loud, do you run it straight off your headers, that could cause your exhaust valves to burn up also. While you have the head off you should bling it out! sorry the ricer in me, I saw dirt. - HAULN-SS - 04-10-2006 that's an urban legend that running straight out of the headers will burn em up - Ginger - 04-10-2006 HAULN-SS Wrote:that's an urban legend that running straight out of the headers will burn em up What he said. Does it come from uncorking restrictive exhausts and not rejetting/retuning for more fuel and getting a lean condition? The exhaust on the car runs off the header to a long straight pipe, resonator, and turndown a foot or so behind the shifter. - Kaan - 04-10-2006 asteele2 Wrote:Does it come from uncorking restrictive exhausts and not rejetting/retuning for more fuel and getting a lean condition? well if thats the case... i know one D16A6 motor that screwed. I have a 2.5 inch exhaust from the cat back... but then again i did do some "tuning" on the dyno... ahhh i still think my motor runs like shit! I think the stock exhaust is a 1.5 inch exhaust btw
- HAULN-SS - 04-10-2006 However, running with no manifolds at all will eff them up in the short term almost gauranteed - .RJ - 04-10-2006 I've never run it without the header on, or even open header - the exhaust/turndown exits behind the driver, the whole thing is probably 3 feet long, behind the long-t00b header. I am pretty sure its because I ran the valve lash too tight :hammer: But, I'd rather fix the head than the whole engine. - .RJ - 05-03-2006 mmm hmm..... just about ready for CMP =) Everything's back together except for the timing belt, and then i'll need to set the valve lash. Paper intake manifold gaskets are a pain in the ass, and if I never have to scrape one off again I'll be happy. That, and gasket remover is really awful stuff. I punted and gave up on finishing tonight when I started dropping stuff all over the place, and forgot how the timing belt is supposed to be routed. I figured that was hint from my buddy murphy. The old head - not sure whats wrong with it yet..... Pistons look very nice ![]() - Jeff - 05-03-2006 damn you...damn you and your 4 valves per cylinder.. - .RJ - 05-03-2006 Well, it runs........ hooray? |
