I know if I was in that situation I'd certainly sell off whatever I had to of mine to pay for it, or at the very least agree on payments for a certain agreed upon value. I'd hate to see the loss of friendship over it, which as long as they do the right thing, you both should be fine. Otherwise I personally (given I was in your situation) would never treat them as a respectable person ever again. Re: Whole lotta Miata - Jake - 12-11-2015 nismosam Wrote:a certain agreed upon value That is the key here. Re: Whole lotta Miata - nismosam - 12-11-2015 Exactly, and personally I would consider that value either A) The replacement cost of my car, or B) The cost to fix the damage done to the car. With that being said, factoring in body work and paint alone would exceed the value of the car, let alone the motor is now believed to be knocking option A is the most fair in my opinion. But, what I didn't say in the first post, I REALLY am glad that everyone is ok. Oh and just because it's not an MM post without relating F&F here Words from Han "One car in exchange for knowing what a man's made of? That's a price I can live with." Re: Whole lotta Miata - Jake - 12-11-2015 nismosam Wrote:Otherwise I personally (given I was in your situation) would never treat them as a respectable person ever again. That's a bit of a loaded statement... there's some liability assumed by the car's owner for agreeing to let someone borrow it for a back-road drive in cold weather conditions. And "respectable" is related to how both parties are treating each other in this situation. Given that a good chunk of people know who was driving, I will ask now (as a moderator) that the commentary here stick to the theme of "oh, sucks about the car, what are you doing next, how can I help" versus thinly-veiled accusations about someone's character. Re: Whole lotta Miata - nismosam - 12-11-2015 No accusations about anyone here, I'm just hoping that Taylor doesn't get the short end of the stick on this deal! I'm sure it'll all be worked out fine given that I'm good friends with both parties, and both have always been respectable and upstanding people in the time that I've known them. Re: Whole lotta Miata - EclipseTurbno93 - 12-11-2015 This whole situation just sucks... Sorry it happened man. I hope you guys can come to a good agreement that you both can be satisfied with Re: Whole lotta Miata - Senor_Taylor - 12-11-2015 I'm not going to comment on the haggling just yet but we are trying to work something out. Sorry if I seemed inconsiderate not mentioning he was okay. It didn't even cross my mind since everyone knows he's just fine. I wasn't even mad when I drove out to Reddish at 1 am to pull him out of the ditch, I was just glad he was okay. Cars can be replaced. That said, a lot of the current students know the situational details a bit better than you alumni might, which is why I'm hesitant to make any statements on how it's going so far. It's a really tricky process we're in right now as we're both hard working guys who have earned what they have, so we'll be sure to keep it civil... as long as the proper compensation is reached. Glad everyone is okay. Hoping there can be an agreed upon deal that works for both parties. No judgements here but in general the person at fault for the accident needs to pay up in some way. Idc about the character of a person or not. Mistakes happen though. You put a lot of work into the car. I applaud you for how you are handling the situation Look forward to the bright side. No was seriously hurt. Could have been a lot worse given the situation. Surprised that car made it back. I think the key take away points in my opinion are: If you or someone else is driving your car you have to accept the possibility of the car being gone at any time The situation should and needs to be settled appropriately and fairly for both parties without hopefully losing friendship Be more consciousness about driving at certain times when it is more safe than other times (regardless of driver) Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Whole lotta Miata - Senor_Taylor - 12-11-2015 ... and it's up for sale. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11615 Also, him and I have agreed on a deal. Hopefully everything works out. Re: Whole lotta Miata - *insertusernamehere* - 12-11-2015 No need to wonder, for those who don't know yet. It was I behind the wheel. It was an unfortunate incident but I'm glad Taylor and I could find a solution. Thanks for the concern y'all. Look at his Avatar, Ryan, it's you. - James W. Re: Whole lotta Miata - BLINGMW - 12-13-2015 Bummer! Hook it up to your truck and straighten it out? We can bang this thing out right? Track car! Re: Whole lotta Miata - Senor_Taylor - 12-13-2015 If someone wants to buy it from me, then sure, perfect beater autocross car, but I really want an actual decent car to drive, so I need the money to buy something. Now, I have to decide what I want to get. If I decide to forgo finally putting the right size tires on my truck (for the 3rd year in a row), I should have about $4000 to buy another car. I'm thinking e30 NA8 Miata Fox Body Mustang (These three are the top choices) e36 e46 Any suggestions? I wasn't planning on having a Miata forever, but I'm kind of in between still wanting one and being over the "Miata phase" in my life. I know nothing will be as fun as that car was, but I could really use a decent trunk and 4 seats. I want something unique. Re: Whole lotta Miata - Gordonovski - 12-13-2015 BLINGMW Wrote:Bummer! Might I recommend saving that money instead and driving your truck for now while you're in school? Do you need two vehicles? I know you work hard to put yourself through school and such, do you need to stay strapped just to have something fun to drive in? I am offering genuine advice here and I don't want this to come off wrong but maybe everything that happened with this car was an omen. Save the money your buddy gives you, keep saving what you can and buy that comfortable, reliable car you're looking for when you're done with school, have a big boy job and are more financially stable <-- is my vote Re: Whole lotta Miata - Senor_Taylor - 12-13-2015 Great advice and trust me, I've thought very long and hard about it, but being involved in MM fully is what makes me happy. I've given up golf for the last year, not gone on any trips or vacations, put in longer hours, etc just so I can afford to have a fun car. It's worth it. Whatever I get will be a straight swap for what I get out of this incident. This semester has actually been the least stressful as far as money has gone. Just a little Owning the Miata actually saved me money after the initial investment because it got over double the MPGs my truck did and adding it under liability on my coverage actually lowered my premium by $20 a month because of some discounts. Hopefully if I pick up Chan's E46, it'll be roughly the same.
