RE: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 05-01-2019 the second million-mile Tundra has been confirmed. serviced at the same dealer as the first million mile tundra that was famous a few months back! https://www.thedrive.com/news/27730/second-toyota-tundra-pickup-hits-a-million-miles-serviced-at-same-dealer-as-the-first same use as the first one too - "hotshot" freight drivers AKA Johnny on the spot parts grabbers for refineries (most likely) on the gulf. and, same as the first one, the guy regularly overloaded the payload rating and it doesn't seem like truck cared. 2nd alternator, rebuilt trans. standard maintenance otherwise. ![]() gotta respect that. and by now its pretty clear the 2UZ V8 is a legend. Are we sure this isn't a gift to the aftermarket, tuner, and motorsports community? Make a really good and relatively cheap car with lots of potential and don't change it for years. Seems like a good thing? That's a really good point - I suspect (and hope) we'll see a lot more of these come out to race with NASA, SCCA, etc as they get older and cheaper. Great lower-power option alongside the Miata. I wish that generation of Tundra wasn't so awful to look at (seriously, inside and out it's... chonky). But a million miles on two of them now is pretty sweet, you don't see that often at all from a gas engine. RE: Automotive News Discussion - Apoc - 05-01-2019 400 hp electric five door fastback with an OS that isn't made by car manufacturers that suck at it. Kind of want... but I'm biased. https://www.engadget.com/2019/03/17/polestar-2-first-look/ https://www.polestar.com/press-release/2019/02/27/polestar-reveals-new-polestar-2 RE: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 05-01-2019 (05-01-2019, 01:11 PM)ScottyB Wrote:Well shit I'm almost at 63k miles now...(05-01-2019, 12:52 PM)rherold9 Wrote: But, will my Ford make it to 100k? Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk RE: Automotive News Discussion - Goodspeed - 05-06-2019 Doug (love him or hate him) has some videos out on cars he think will rise, and drop in value in the coming years. I think he's pretty on point with both vids, & the Porsche segment in the down video is pretty funny. Up in value: Down in value: RE: Automotive News Discussion - Kaan - 05-07-2019 so I wonder what they did to these Tundras at that dealer.... This motor is on a chain with zero guidance on when to replace it. They do spark plugs every 100k, change the oil with then light comes on... they say its "life time" trans fluid, though most of us that tow change it out with the diff and transfer case fluid... this is also 100k miles. My truck is on its 4th set of tires (149k miles), I'm getting roughly 45k miles out of the tires no matter what. I've had the truck for roughly 100k miles and I've only had to do rear pads, no fronts yet.... though my rotors are WARPED so I might do them anyway. I also had to replace the OEM battery in 2018 (yes that's 10 years on the battery). basically I put a lot of oil and gas in the truck... and I've changed the tires and rear brakes and I had the complete 100k mile done to include the trans fluid. As little as I have had to do to my truck my plan has always been to replace it at 200k miles... and upgrade the truck. my issue is I don't see a truck worth upgrading to that isn't double the price... and I don't see a 1/2 ton (though I guess the Tundra is not a 5/8 anymore its more of a 3/8 truck) trucks that are this pain free. I might just get a lower mileage Tundra with more interior goodies. RE: Automotive News Discussion - Kaan - 05-07-2019 I'd have to pay double to upgrade to a 2.5 ton diesel. to switch to a diesel with 50k miles or so I'm looking at $37-50k. a quick search says I can get a replacement Tundra for $26k within 100 miles of me... expand it and it gets me back down to 22kish. Mind you I got my 2008 Tundra, with 50k miles, 5.7L, 4x4, tow package, SR5, etc. for $21k out the door. I spent time looking for one at that price that was also a southern truck. 200k mile trucks are still fetching $8-10k so I'd like to get what I can out of it around that time. Diesel trucks are ridiculous. The paint on my hood on my truck (bodyshop work) is peeling, and my truck has 178k and is 12 years old. I have a standing offer at $18k with a friend for it... There are probably quite a few $50,000 vehicles that are still going for 1/4 their original value 12 years after manufacture. Automotive News Discussion - D_Eclipse9916 - 05-07-2019 50,000 1/4 18,000. Math is hard Taylor. Let’s just say diesel trucks get more than average by a decent bit. Not many near 200,000 mile vehicles out there getting more than a 1/3rd their original value. RE: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 05-07-2019 I was about to pay 30k for an eBay lbz Duramax with 45k on it. Buyer I think got an offer of 36 on it and closed the auction search continues...
Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 05-07-2019 The mileage part is fair and definitely unique to diesels. Also unique to diesels is the complete lack of examples that are not over 75k after 7 years. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk RE: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 05-07-2019 Nobody is selling a 2006+ Duramax with 90k miles for 20k. If they were I would have already bought it. Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 05-07-2019 I totally read that as 75k, not 45k Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk RE: Automotive News Discussion - Kaan - 05-08-2019 the only reasonably priced diesels are all brodozers... and they all have +150k miles. so once you factor in unscrewing them up and a new transmission... they arent worth it. all the reports i'm seeing out of the diesel tundra is that its a fuel economy move and will only have 300ft/lbs... vs. the 5.7L 400ft/lbs. I'll keep the gasser or get a newer gasser. RE: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 05-08-2019 The engine in that Tundra is fantastic, and I have never minded the interiors in the higher trim level Tundras even though they are a bit dated at this point. I would buy and drive another one in a heartbeat (I had a 2000ish V6 Tundra if anyone remembers) |
