Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 04-16-2019

It looks nice for a lowered truck but calling it a syclone seems wrong. It's a pig by comparison.

Yeah.

I *would* love to see a 2020 GMC Cyclone, I think they could probably sell them and while you couldn't make it as fast as a Vette, you could get damn close and have a neat little tucklet.

I mean, those days are gone never to return but it WOULD be cool.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 04-17-2019

i know its literally not possible these days, but what made the original Syclone/Typhoons so damn cool was that they were almost untouchable in a sprint from anything under lambo levels of exotic. it was a huge middle finger to the supercars at the time. they stood alone in that performance level for a long time, even the Lightning couldn't bring any threat to them until the 2nd gens.

you can get 450hp in a V8 truck (which aren't that much bigger than a colorado) with almost no effort now and high end sports cars are basically bending physics at this point. you'd need at least 600hp or more to make this new syclone actually mimic the spirit of the original. and use some damn turbos on it at least.

If they took any notes from Chrysler/Fiat they would realize that they could sell a metric fuck ton of these with some kind of modern Chevrolet "Hellcat" engine.

You seem to assume they aren't rolling in money from the 1029392 Camaro and Corvettes models as well as their trucks.

I can't imagine a GM "hellcat" would do anything except canibalize ZR1 sales.

Scotty's right - I looked at Ram SRT-10's for a few hot minutes, and if you ignore the fact that it's OMG a Viper V10, you can get similar power out of a tuned Squeakoboost Ford, and get like triple the MPG while doing so.

They only need to "Hellcat" the truck to give us a true Syclone.

Lots of 3rd party manufacturers are pumping out modern day Syclones and Lightnings with a warranty gah bless.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 04-25-2019

Looks like we have a new leader of the Big Wang Gang. It will be at Pikes Peak this year so hopefully Flimflam can snap a picture or two. 1600hp.

It only looks silly if it doesn't work? Or in this case it looks silly even if it does?

RE: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 04-25-2019

serious question, how the hell do you even see over the front? odds are the race seat will practically be on the floor to begin with, how's a guy supposed to see over that airfoil?

i'm sure they addressed this before they mocked it up but damn, you ain't doin any 3 point turns in that thing.

That's what push cars are for. But for real, how does he know where the edge of the road is?

Its ok,  that's not important at all at Pike's Peak

What did the aftermath look like?

Driver and passenger survived thanks to the roll cage. This was back in 2012 I think? That was an Evo.

there is no way it was built from that shell as they claim

Hakone Edition looks gorgeous to me.  no other updates bc 86 platform is forever nerfed but makes me wish i could be in the market for a new one

That is a great shade of green, and generally nice color combo.

Really curious what they will do with this platform/car as it's getting due for a refresh soon.

+1

The platform languish makes me weep though. It had so much potential...squandered.

It's beautiful! I really wish I had an excuse to need a car.

Just a thought that occurred to me on the topic of it being overdue for an update and having squandered potential though.... Are we sure this isn't a gift to the aftermarket, tuner, and motorsports community? Make a really good and relatively cheap car with lots of potential and don't change it for years. Seems like a good thing?

Just think if BMW was gracious enough to make the E30 from 1984 to 2019....
